re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

I pre-ordered a few titles on Wednesday and was assuming they would all ship at the same time. Which would be in late April when one title I pre-ordered is released. But today, to my surprise, I received Deadly Blessing in the mail, and it only took two days to arrived after being shipped out on Thursday. This is the second time I ordered directly from Shout and I'm quite impressed.

They're pretty much getting my blu-ray budget for the year so far, since I've put off buying numerous other titles, since I have a limited budget to work with for such purchases. The other titles I ordered were Phantasm II, From Beyond and Lifeforce all with the exclusive posters.

I have those all pre-ordered as well. I'm going to have to add The Burning to that list soon, too...

I thought The Nest was out this week but I'm seeing a February 19th release date now. Am I imagining things or was it pushed back?

Nice to see so many FROM BEYOND enthusiasts! I always felt the film was underappreciated & unfairly dismissed next to Re-Animator.

Not trying to be pedantic, but I've seen multiple of these BD press releases misspell Paoli's first name, it's "Dennis" with 2 N's.

This commentary would be my main impetus for double dipping. I just hope it's better than some of Scream Factory's other solo commentaries. Well, all I've heard are the Halloween III commentaries, and I was rather disappointed by them. Tom Atkins was amiable enough, and love his idea of making a movie about the making of The Ninth Configuration. I couldn't make it through the Tommy Lee Wallace track, though. Got tired of him saying "I don't know, nobody tells me these things." Only confirmed my feeling about H3, that it would have benefited from a more observant film director.

Have Scream Factory's other DVD/BDs had better newly-recorded solo commentaries?

Phantasm 2 looks like it'll be a great release. Does anyone know if Anchor Bay still owns the right to part 1,3, & 4 ? I would love it if Shout got a hold of them and released a box set.

Jeez, why did Starx buy Anchor Bay if they planned to practically abandon the back catalog that made AB famous. Were their original titles that lucrative?

I read somewhere that Anchor Bay's bread and butter in their heyday were exercise videos and kiddie titles like Thomas the Tank Engine. (I'm not sure if that's still the case now.) The cult stuff is why they were loved, and I'm sure it was a not-inconsiderable portion of their revenue, but apparently that wasn't where Anchor Bay made most of their money.

I think all the cult cinema-obsessed guys that were at Anchor Bay have moved on (heck, I think all that more or less died when Bill Lustig left), and there's just not a lot of money in that. I guess they'd rather do the whole vertical thing for new releases and make dollars vs. licensing 35 year old movies that've been released on video over and over and over and making pennies.

Yeah it was weird having watched the Anchor Bay logo before movies like Army of Darkness or Supergirl for so long, and then after having a kid watching it come up before Thomas and Friends.

At any rate, since Coscareli owns all the films, maybe SCREAM will get distribution rights when AB's expire.

On the MGM DVD of The Burning there is a shot of my newspaper clipping of the film during the Savini interview. Thing is, I actually have a few better copies in my collection (I actually only scanned that ad for Horrordvds.com my own thread on movie ads and had no idea it would be featured elsewhere). I'd love to scan them and send them to Shout to include if they do a similar extra.

Crimewave on 5/13. Definitely one of the biggest WTFs in the history of the Blu-ray format. I'll be buying it though.

I hope this one has a brutally honest audio commentary.

"The mother of all commentaries" per Bruce Campbell via Twitter.

I literally thought up until recently that we'd eventually get all of Raimi's other movies on Blu and Crimewave would be lucky to get a MOD release on DVD. There were rumors/speculation that it was destined for a MOD release too. I'm glad Shout! saw there was a little more to Crimewave.

I don't think I ever made it through the whole movie even though I tried multiple times.

I just posted a review of the TerrorVision / The Video Dead double feature, by the way.
