The Fassbinder BRD set is currently out of print pending an upgrade.

Hopefully we'll get this and Lili Marleen on BLU in the next year.

Thanks. It's not often I come across movies I haven't heard of.

I knew about Wender's "Road Movie" Trilogy, but not "The State Of Things". I also heard "The American Friend" would be forthcoming.

Heard about Out 1 & the Apu Trilogy as well.

The State of Things is, um, an interesting film. It won the Golden Lion at Venice, but it has a minimal narrative and was shot on a very low budget. I haven't seen it in years (I don't even own a copy!) and am eager to re-evaluate it. Needless to say it's not currently among my list of favorites.

Director's cut could mean anything. He may not have cut a second, but perhaps placed scenes in a slightly different sequence or changed the music or who knows what.

I'm inclined to believe there is no change between DVD and Blu, but I've yet to see any 100% confirmation which just goes to show the shitty quality of DVD reviews these days.

I just received the last of the Blus I ordered during the Barnes & Noble sale--Secret Sunshine. Although it states on the back of the case that there's a booklet, one didn't come with my copy. Has anyone else bought this title and found that you're missing a booklet?

I dropped Jon M. an email letting him know. Hopefully it was an oversight and not endemic to the run.

^I had the same thing happen with Secret Sunshine. I sent John an email and he put one in the mail for me that day.

Has anyone here noticed anything about the audio on White? Apparently there's an issue with it and Criterion is going to be issuing replacement discs.

They lost the rights, and an inferior Blu-ray was released by Studio Canal. The likelihood of it going back in-print is pretty slim.

I just sat down to watch 12 Angry Men, and this being my first time, I was surprised to notice that on the cover art of my blu-ray copy, jurors 11 and 12 have been switched position. Researching online, all the promo shots I could find feature the correct order. Anyone has the same issue?

I haven't played it yet, but the issue apparently has to do with incorrect surround encoding. The audio on all three movies is 2.0 surround, but when you engage surround mode on White the sound field supposedly collapses to mono. This doesn't happen with the other two movies. Annoying if so; at least they're going to replace.

Any word if they got the rights to Red River and plan on releasing it on Blu?

Yeah, they've had Red River for a while. I expected to see it released this year- should definitely be on the scheduled in 2012 at some point.

John Cusack's character is a puppeteer who specializes in marionettes. His wife, played by Cameron Diaz, has a pet monkey who wears a diaper.

Yes Yes YES!
I've been hesitating to break the seal on my copy for several years now, expecting any month they are going to announce this so I can sell off my copy.
I would love to see it happen in 2012.
This film is ripe for an upgrade and you're right- it would look glorious.

The River is one of my top 10 most wanted titles on Blu-ray. I'm sure Criterion will get around to it eventually.

Criterion usually includes a few films into their clues

I don't think the monkey in the diaper is supposed to be a single film

I'm thinking we have a criterion bluray of
1. Every which way but loose
2. Puppet master
3. Look who's talking

Coming our way

Oh so sorry. Let me be more serious then

1. king kOng
2. Some obscure unwatchable French film about puppets. Like. Le puppeteeri
3. Some equally unwatchable French film about a baby. Le diaperes Es dirtye

i'm interested in upcoming titles, but i'm not interested in "criterion releases"
though i have a number of their blurays- crumb, gimme shelter, killing, paths of glory, and on and on.

but i'm not buying something cause it says "criterion"

and IMHO 80-90% of their releases are garbage, they have people convinced it's an important film cause they put their banner on it.

the wes anderson releases show they could care less about releasing an important film.

When it happens several times and people do the 'submit this post to a moderator' thing...
