Although maybe I should have posted this in the DVD section since he doesn't seem to be too concerned with the Blu-Rays. |

The Game confirmed, along with Pale Flower. Hopefully Criterion will be re-releasing other Home Vision titles, they've got a great catalog.

Kinda disappointing that Fincher said he was not involved with Criterion on The Game.

Excellent news on The Game. I guess maybe it'll debut with The Social Network's BD release.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
As far as HVE upgrades, I'd love to get Seance on a Wet Afternoon and Mikey and Nicky on Blu-ray.

noirfan,
I'm in Australia, no streaming for me :) |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Awesome, this means I can finally retire my DVD of The Game once and for all.
No doubt the extras will be awesome since Prior is involved. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I love that they went out of their way to source larger cases than the rest of the BD industry uses, but they still aren't big enough for their larger editions.
I love the printed content. I just wish they'd do Digibooks with them or something. |

My copy of Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence and my roommate's copy of The Thin Red Line arrived today. We're planning to watch Thin Red Line later tonight.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Neat tale about Stagecoach
was on CC's site.. Peter Bogdanovich’s latest post on Blogdanovich, his recently launched Indiewire blog, tells quite a tale. In 1968, after conducting an interview with John Wayne for an AFI documentary on John Ford, the young critic and filmmaker was walked to his car by the Duke. They cut through Wayne’s garage, where he had stashed a treasure trove: 35 mm prints of nearly all of his films—Red River, The Quiet Man, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and so on. Bogdanovich was most excited to see a canister marked “Stagecoach”: as the original negative had been lost, the existence of this “mint copy” of Ford’s early western was “golden news for film lovers.” According to Bogdanovich, this chance occurrence was what saved the film from the dustheap of history. Note: the Criterion edition of Stagecoach includes an introduction by Bogdanovich. |

On a Criterion disc, if the bonus feature is encoded at 1080p, it's true high-def. But if it's 1080i, it's an upconvert. |

Have you ever actually watched any of them? The bonus features on most Criterion discs are standard def upconverted to 1080i.
Why do they do that, I wonder? Is it because of the pause most displays have when switching from SD to BD? |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Thin Red Line looks absolutely phenomenal, and the sound is fantastic. Definitely demo material.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence looks quite good as well. Plenty of grain for a good filmic quality. Both are worth picking up. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Night of the Hunter cover designer Eric Skillman takes us through the creative process.
Personally, I wish he had gone with this design: Spoiler:
