I actually haven't been able to muster up much enthusiasm for On the Waterfront - it's certainly a very important film, but it's never been one of my favorites by Kazan. Badlands, Chronicle of a Summer, Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, A Man Escaped, and Life is Sweet are the highlights of the next few months, in my opinion. But I agree that their slate so far this year hasn't been overly inspiring.

A boxset of Moodysson's first three films - Show Me Love, Together, and Lilya 4-ever - would be incredible.

How awesome we're getting the original 3:10 to Yuma. I've been hoping for a BD at some point.

As far as I know Eraserhead hasn't been officially announced.

Those are from Hulu, I believe Eraserhead has been on there for a while now. It's also very clearly part of the January montage so a release is probably imminent.

Strange that it was on Hulu through Criterion.

I knew it was in that montage and assumed it was coming but seeing that image got me excited to see some evidence.

with it's original title on the cover/box: Fucking Åmål ;)

when the HELL will Criterion release a stateside release of Renoir's The River - the wait is really really obnoxious.

Great month for me...I will be buying them all. Life is Sweet is my favorite Leigh film so i am ecstatic that Criterion is releasing it.

Criterion has a bunch of films on Hulu they haven't released yet. For example, a couple of unreleased Chaplin films are there.

Zatoichi! They've had that on Hulu for a while now. I'd love to get a BD set on the first 18 or whatever that they have.

Picked up On The Waterfront today. Great movie and overall package. The commentary is pretty damn interesting and educational.

Indeed. Just getting Lilya-4-Ever would be a dream come true for me. I have actually inquired with them several times about it, but Mulvaney would never even respond to my emails.

I just saw that Criterion has posted the following 3 Hitchcock films on Hulu:

Sabotage
Young and Innocent
Foreign Correspondent

We already knew that they had Foreign Correspondent, but I think the other two are new. I know showing up on Hulu doesn't mean a blu-ray is imminent or even coming at all, but my guess is that with Hitchcock titles probably being amongst their better selling ones, we'll see these at some point.

I'd prefer those to be part of the Eclipse series - maybe a 3-pack of their first blu-ray set.

I kind of doubt that they'd relegate any Hitchcock to Eclipse - even relatively "minor" titles like these would probably be decent sellers in the mainline - but as long as they were Blu I wouldn't mind. It would at least be cheaper.

Agreed.

Does anyone else still email title requests to Criterion? Every once in a while I email [email protected] requesting Shivers.

I have to say, I found Cronenberg's last couple of commentaries lackluster (Cosmopolis & A Dangerous Method). I hope he still has insightful comments to make about Scanners.
