Just because they haven't released it yet, doesn't mean it won't be put out as their first 4K. It's a momentous occasion for them and they'll want to "honor" one of their beloved directors.

Silence of the Lambs is a good guess. Maybe Mulholland Drive? The thirty year time-frame excludes Blue Velvet.
I'd guess that their first 4K is going to be a commercial film with a lot of mainstream appeal, and not something obscure like a Wes Anderson film.
If we want to look at a film that Criterion hasn't released before, I think that Eyes Wide Shut might be a possible candidate. What would be some other American movies from the past thirty years that would possibly be both Criterion-worthy, appeal to a commercial audience, and not yet be available on 4K UHD disc? Interview with the Vampire? Pulp Fiction? Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair?

If not TWBA, then I was thinking at the least a fresh 4K remaster of Kill Bill 1+ 2 with a butt load of extras might also get the attention of the collectors.

^ plus Warner has been doing just fine with their staggered Kubrick releases. No reason for them to license away EWS at this point.
If it's Uni, maybe the first 4K will be Lost Highway

Paramount has distribution rights to Miramax titles and have been rereleasing some on Blu-ray. Considering a chunk of Criterion’s Paramount titles went OOP recently, and the fact that Paramount has been putting out a lot of discs from their own library lately, I wouldn’t count on it.

Kevin Smith tweeted something once that Harvey owns Dogma as an individual, not through a company... so it's kinda fucked.

Criterion's first 4K release will be either Inland Empire or Bamboozled. Both were shot on cruddy standard-def DV. Then they'll never release another 4K disc.

Criterion actually trying 4K? WOW.
Isle of Dogs was ready to go on 4K before Fox (Disney?) cancelled it

So the status of a lot of stuff seems pretty ambiguous at the moment. Paramount might be willing to let some of that stuff go to Criterion -- lord knows that there's a ton of stuff in the Miramax library that would be right at home at Criterion... Velvet Goldmine, all of those arthouse movies they put out in the 90s, anything by Tarantino...
I've been hoping that they would license out some of their franchises like Scream and The Crow to Scream Factory. I'd really like to see the uncut DC of Scream get a blu-ray release, and all of the "lost" special features that were produced for The Crow get released.

If we could get Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair for the first time, and in 4K that would be amazing. Doubt it will happen though.

Fun to speculate, but physical media is a dying product. Does Criterion charge for its streaming service?

The guys in Spinal Tap used to have to appear in character every so often or else they'd lose the rights to use the characters. Somehow Gizmo's post reminds me of that.

The Miramax and Dimension libraries are currently owned by holding company, which, I believe, Paramount recently bought a large state in.

Just got Deep Cover, mostly blind buy and kinda remember trailers, but I don’t think hyped too much. And not shown too much now on cable or anything that I’ve seen. Though see good reviews and decent BO considering est. of production budget. Like Fishburne, of course. Looking forward.

I’ll probably pick up Deep Cover. I think I owned the vhs. I always remember the song and video more than the film.
On the other hand I still watch Judgement Night and Tresspass yearly.
I was into hip hop in the late 80’s /early 90’s and those three had great soundtracks.

^ is it DC like those? I didn’t love either one.

No I wouldn’t say that. I just lump those three together since they all came out in 92/93. Could also throw in Menace To Society. I watched that a ton, but I haven’t seen it in maybe 20 years.

Who would ever guess that Adam Sandler’s face would be found on two Criterion releases (Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems)? Strange times we live in.
