Considering I've always wondered if this would ever even get a Blu-ray release, I'm really happy with this news.

Have to admit, when I first saw this I was hoping that it was the Warren Beatty version of Heaven Can Wait...Oh well, hopefully some company eventually releases that...But if we're talking movies involving football (which plays a role in the Beatty film), it would be awesome if Criterion got the rights to something like North Dallas Forty...I love that movie...And if we're talking Beatty movies, I'm praying for a Blu-Ray release of Shampoo...That could be a loaded Criterion and would make my day...They could have all sorts of interviews/featurettes with Beatty, Christie, and Robert Towne...

Criterion released Shampoo on Laserdisc back in the day, so someone there did once consider the movie to be in their wheelhouse.

Damn, I was hoping it was the Warren Beatty version too, I love that movie.

$39.96 but I'll get it when the next sale hits. No rush.

Hm. Didn't know that. I guess there's hope then...I just have an awful feeling that it's the type of movie Twilight Time might get their hands on...I know they released The Last Detail (which, like Shampoo, was a Columbia DVD release), which I begrudgingly bought, despite the ridiculous price...Twilight Time won't do the movie justice the way Criterion would...It's just a shame that Carrie Fisher passed away, as she probably could've given a decent interview about her time on the set...

I don't mind Malick making "extended" versions of his movies...I actually enjoyed all three cuts of The New World...But if he's willing to re-edit these films with all of that extra footage, you would've thought he would've done the same to The Thin Red Line...After all, there's all sorts of stories about this famous actor and that famous actor whose scenes were cut...While I felt that movie was long enough, I wouldn't mind seeing an additional hour added to that, so long as we got to see the various actors that were ultimately cut...That said, I'm not saying I'd welcome a re-release of something like that, as it would cut into my budget...I'm just surprised that he releases these extended cuts for The New World and Tree of Life, but not that one...

I hope he never releases extended cuts of his last three movies, as I pretty much hated every one of them...Especially To The Wonder...Tree of Life was his last great movie...

I so agree, but the last one was an improvement. It still wasn't that good.

Anyone get Midnight Cowboy today? If watch it tonight or something post thoughts. Will probably get it as one of my favs, but have other release which of course is not comparable the Criterion’s I’m sure. Just wondering if all the extras are worth it...

There's a 40% off sale that starts in two weeks and a 50% off sale that starts in July....I'm keeping my powder dry.

I get that "ampersands" kind-of almost sounds vaguely like "Ambersons," but putting a couple of stars near it would be a pretty lame way of conveying "Magnificent."

Win!!!!!

The Criterion laserdisc of Ambersons is/was the greatest. It’s really the only way to watch the film. The supplements contain an entire breakdown of the script and storyboards and a breakdown of what was re-edited, what was reshot, and what was removed. Can’t wait.

Whenever I watch Magnificient Ambersons I feel like I am watching the film with a pebble in my shoe. Knowing this isn't the film Welles made. If they ever find the original cut, whoever released it would have me over a barrel. I'd pay a large sum of money to see that movie.

I'm not one of the people that hated the cover they originally announced, but I love this new cover.

Is it safe to say that Isle of Dogs will hit Criterion after initial other release?

Yes, about one year later, if not sooner. Same as Moonrise Kingdom and Fantastic Mr. Fox...Grand Budapest Hotel will be announced soon, I believe...Anderson said in a few interviews that it's a stipulation in his contracts that all of his movies are eventually released by Criterion...
