I got Defending Your Life. I only know Brooks from The Scout, with Brendan Fraser, I believe. Don’t remember much about movie. And of course his amazing turn in Drive. His Oscar nominated turn in Broadcast News, but saw that long ago as well. But DYL, I’m kinda looking forward to.

I just got DYL too (along with Streetwise). Brooks is a straight-up stone cold comedic genius imo and DYL was the only one of his I have yet to see but I will soon. Lost in America, Real Life, Modern Romance, Mother are all excellent films.

It’ll be nice to have a good digital copy of DYL. The current one floating around sucks.

Is the Bruce Lee’s: Greatest Hits, great? Movies and quality and extras? I have the “Premier Collection” (which has the other 4 I believe) and Enter the Dragon (SE) most recently released and figure way above, but by leagues?

And two Finding Nemo movies, I assume?

Personally, I think Lost in America is way better than DYL (but not as high concept). It’s also on Criterion.

Yes, the Nemo/Dory movies, but that’s just a voice. Haven’t seen him much on camera except aforementioned.

Taxi Driver? Out of Sight? This is 40? None of those?

Modern Romance is my favorite of his movies. I'll definitely be picking up Defending Your Life at some point this month though.

Nothing will beat Bey Logan's commentaries (On the old HKL discs) but I found a lot of Criterion's new interviews to be pretty good and I still can't believe Enter/Dragon never got a brand new audio commentary. I can't speak for the picture quality because I'm more of an OAR guy

The Criterion set is the only place to get the original theatrical cut of Enter the Dragon. But unless you're a huge fan of the movie, you probably wouldn't care/notice.

The Bruce Lee set is fantastic, especially if you’re a fan. If you’re not really a fan and just want to “collect” it, I think you’re wasting your money. You’re better off buying something you’re actually interested in and will watch.

I hate the packaging though. They did such a shoddy job. Not at all what I expect from Criterion.

Yeah, very thin cardboard for that kind of money.

oh, I’m a fan. As I said, I have the Premiere Collection and SE of Enter the Dragon. I love Lee movies. Everything about him. Even loved Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. His ESPN 30 for 30, I think, ranks as one of the best in that series. I think this sounds like a clear upgrade even though EtD: SE remains unchanged, I believe. But pretty sure this has more extras for other movies than Premiere did. Just want to make sure clear upgrade from what I already have.

And, why would I buy to “collect”? I buy to watch these, eventually, someday. I don’t buy bc I think it might go OOP and then flip it. Don’t think I’ve ever done that. I think I’ve sold collectibles I’ve had, but I bought them all for me and just decided to sell it for one reason or another.

And, did this just go out of print? Amazon only has 3rd party and $80-ish for like new and eBay is $90-100 or so. Luckily, I got it for $60 when Amazon just had sale. Gonna take couple weeks, thus asked and could always cancel.

It's not out of print. It's selling out because it's a Criterion box set, and Criterions are on sale at B&N (and Amazon) for the next few weeks.

edit:
MSRP is $125.

It only came out a year ago. $125 is MSRP.

Decided to go in on the Wong Kar-wai set at 50% off for $99. Bought it just under the wire, as it sold out crazy quick on both amazon and B&N.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I ordered the WKW set on Thursday with the 15% off coupon. It arrived Friday and I started watching it over the weekend. I really do not like the packaging and every disc except for one had playback issues. This seems to be a somewhat common issue. I emailed them about it, haven't heard back yet. I did see a post on a FB group where someone said they emailed Mulvaney and was told a replacement program is in the works.

Man criterion is getting lapped by other labels. Their refusal to introduce 4K is really starting to make them look bad.

I definitely don’t pay attention to them like I used to. It’s not like I exclusively buy 4k discs now, but unless the special features are truly outstanding, I’ll pick up a UHD release elsewhere.
