Uncut Gems... already on BD at $7.99. Probably the exact same picture/sound quality, just throwing in extras. Pretty lame.
Hell, they're even using the exact same cover.

I loved MtS. Heartbreaking and just great. Larenz Tate was scary and reminded me of Tupac in Juice or Above the Rim. More Juice though as he was something and calm and cool in AtR. I liked him. He was good. And, of course, great rapper. With deep gets into your skin and soul type voice. One like no other imo. Along with Jason’s Lyric, Juice, Tupac in Gridlock’d kicked ass. Whole movie was great. Though thst was later on.

phenomenally tense, heart wrenching, racks your nerves, but incredible performance by Sandler and he didn’t even get nominated that year, right? I need to see this again when I’m depressed perhaps or want to relive my Judaism days.

I picked up Deep Cover during the 50% off sale. Great movie. The transfer was fantastic. I love the way the movie was lit.

It's an awesome neo-noir film for sure. Don't know if you saw, but I think CC says in order for you to get the proper 2.0 playback that you have to switch the audio setting on your AVR to Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Surround. Otherwise it plays in the DTS default.

Yea, I didn’t read about that until after, but could tell something seemed off, and just changed the settings until it sounded good. Pretty weird.

Not sure if this is a choice Criterion has made for the sake of purity or if there's some other reason they don't expand to a 5.1. Kind of annoying if you ask me.

Edit: I found it.
"The original 2.0 surround soundtrack was was remastered from the 35mm magnetic audio tracks using Avid's Pro Tools and iZotope RX. Please be sure to enable Dolby Pro Logic decoding on your receiver to properly play the Dolby 2.0 surround soundtrack."
This is standard Criterion boilerplate text on any release that has a 2.0 soundtrack. All it means is that it's a matrixed surround track, not plain stereo. They recommend you turn on Pro Logic or Dolby Surround after you've selected the 2.0 audio option, rather than any "Direct" or "Pure" setting. The track was mixed with the intention of being decoded with surround extraction. DTS Neo:6 or Neural:X would work just as well.

Criterion has done this on occasion with titles in that 80's/early 90's window with matrixed surround tracks from before 5.1 really became a thing. Three Colors Trilogy is another one I can think of off hand.

Really didn't see that coming.
Wonder if that means the current Criterion SotL will be going OOP.

How is Andrei Tarkovsky’s Mirror for someone who has never seen an Andrei Tarkovsky film? The Blu review seems to make it a great release which is why I ask, but I know he’s not a director for the masses…

Probably not the best Tarkovsky to start with. I'd go with Solaris or Stalker first.

What about Ivan’s Childhood? Which I never seen before but that was suppose to be his most accessible one.

We’re thrilled to announce Criterion’s first 4K Ultra HD releases, a six-film slate that includes Citizen Kane, Menace II Society, The Piano, Mulholland Dr., The Red Shoes, and A Hard Day’s Night. The first of these editions and their special features will be detailed in our November 2021 announcement next week, with others to follow in subsequent months.
The most dazzling debut in cinema history, Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane was Criterion’s first laserdisc release 37 years ago. It now rejoins the library after a long absence, making its first appearance in 4K Ultra HD along with Allen and Albert Hughes’s riveting breakthrough Menace II Society; Jane Campion’s Academy Award–winning The Piano, starring Holly Hunter and Anna Paquin in her breakout role; David Lynch’s Mulholland Dr., a tale of love and jealousy in the city of dreams; Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s singular Technicolor fantasia The Red Shoes; and Richard Lester’s timeless movie musical A Hard Day’s Night, which brought the Beatles’ revolutionary talent and irreverent humor to the big screen.
Each title will be available in a 4K UHD+Blu-ray combo pack including a 4K UHD disc of the feature film as well as the film and its special features on Blu-ray. Select films will be presented in Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. Stay tuned for more details in our November announcement!

Meh. Glad to see Criterion is finally getting onto the 4K bandwagon, but I could care less about Citizen Kane.

Interesting mix to start things off. Not super interested in any of those, but I'll keep my eyes open.
Maybe I'll even watch Citizen Kane one of these day...
This thread is pretty big, would this be a good point to make a new one?

Mulholland Dr. and the Red Shoes are enough to make me take back everything bad I've ever said about Criterion.
