re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I don't see them restarting the numbering system. When they moved from LaserDisc to DVD, they restarted because the formats were so vastly different. When they started doing Blu, they kept the DVD numbers because the Blu format built upon what DVD had done, so going to 4K should keep the same numbers (but maybe add an -A to the end, didn't they do that for CAV/CLV versions on LD?)

that's awesome. i guess recorded long ago. still probably a blast. Crowe when he was a fledgling. wasn't till 89's Say Anything... was Crowe heard from again and of course we have the magnificent Almost Famous, Jerry Maguire, i liked Elizabethtown and really liked Vanilla Sky (though know it was a flop, as was Et) he really hasn't done much since 2011. why is that a couple flops? he obviously has talent...

Vanilla Sky was actually pretty successful at the box office, though it wasn't much liked by viewers. Crowe's last film, Aloha (2015), was a massive flop. He also directed every episode of the Showtime TV series Roadies that was canceled after one season.

I believe that's correct if only looking at domestic numbers. However, Stargate did $200 million worldwide. A few of his other movies also cracked $100 million when all territories were added up, including Backdraft, Executive Decision, and Tango & Cash.

He also had an uncredited role as the voice of Elvis in Forrest Gump, which of course made a bajillion dollars.

Why do you leave so many words out of your sentences?

i'm lazy? what's the big deal? i think it gets the point across. i usually write with emotion, not so much with thought (insert "that's for sure" jokes here) or if i am grammatically correct. i do that all day, in my free time, i like to relax and just do whatever.

And I don’t mean with any malice. I have gotten criticized before, but I assure you I don’t do it on purpose to irk people. Sincerely. So sorry if it perturbs anyone. I’ll try harder, is all I can say. And, sometimes that “What are you high?” box IS checked.

Boy. Just preordered this. Could be the set of the year...
Never saw one of his movies, but they sound right up my alley. Certainly heard of most, especially Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love.

Just be warned that almost every single one of the movies in the set has been tinkered with by Wong. I guess you wouldn't know any different if you haven't seen the originals, but from everything I've seen, they're pretty revisionist. It's mostly in the visuals, but there are some reedits as well. For me it went from a "must buy" to "no thanks". I'm just glad I have my solo releases of In the Mood for Love and Chungking.

But he’s director so obviously his true vision and as you said, wouldn’t know any different.

Yeah, I have both solo releases, and I was hoping for a good picture upgrade, but if the coloring was jacked with or anything like that, I’ll probably pass.

It's his "true vision" today. It was not his true vision when he made the movies. His true vision might be something else entirely next year.
