I think a lot of us had that reaction. I remember the early U.S. release often got really cheap, but I wanted to wait for another ultimate edition that contained all the cuts. If that was the first release, there's no way I wouldn't own it.

I wish there was something that could be done to help get the release that Dawn fans deserve out there. We need some epic Kickstarter that would go to whoever was willing to release it. It's just such a shame Dawn is caught up in this kind of shit. I'd even be willing to buy a more expensive release that includes the 3D conversion!

I guess the ultimate hope is that Night sells big and Criterion sees a way that they might be able to break even on it. It would be incredible if Dawn got a release like Brazil.

i would happily take the 3D version as well, but to have the other cuts that is in the fabulous DVD monster version would be sublime. alas, guess we will never see. wish i could find that set...

There is a decent 4k release of Dawn. The 4k disc is region free but the other five BDs are locked to B.

To be clear, that 4K version is the Argento 'Zombi' cut, but it does include all of the cuts in HD.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Our popular Q&A series is back, but this time we’re doing it with Steven Soderbergh!

We are currently working on the special edition of Soderbergh’s sex, lies, and videotape, which will feature a new 4K restoration and is slated to be released this year, and we’re wondering if you have any questions you would like answered about the film.

We’ll be accepting all of your questions from now until March 8 and sending the most thoughtful and creative ones to Steven. Though we can’t guarantee that all will be answered on the release, feel free to ask as many as you like. Personal requests will not be answered.

Now ask away! Just make sure to include your full name, city, state, and country of residence with your questions.

Here's my question: How about releasing that new 4K restoration in... 4K?

Shout/Scream Factory has responded to this title request in the past. They pretty much said there was no way to license the title without losing a lot of money. He wants 7 figures for it.

Would probably have to sell 100K copies just to break even on the deal.

Sure glad I hung onto my ultimate set of DotD when I got the arrow release. I knew it was oop, but didn't know it was commanding those prices.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Good to see MANILA in there! Socially progressive Filipino cinema has long been deserving of recognition and scholarship in the west, but rarely seems to get much traction. The Filipino industry itself can shoulder some of the blame as its seemingly become better known -- if at all -- for its endless glut of cheap, derivative, flaky comedies and romances for the domestic and diaspora markets (although a study of those in relation to the culture would probably be a good read). MANILA was part of an excellent region B two-disc set from BFI with Brocka's INSIANG, and this Criterion edition only has some of the supplements, so perhaps the others might turn up on a Criterion edition of INSIANG down the road, assuming they have that one as well. Guess we'll see.

I'm sure Bowling for Columbine jumped the queue with how big the gun debate has gotten lately.

More John Waters. Awesome! This won't need to have as many soundtrack substitutions as Multiple Maniacs.

Possible it moved up a little, but it was featured in the new year drawing hinting on what titles were coming in 2018.

In for Bergman. Bowling For Columbine has the most unwatchable ending in film history. Easy pass, I haven't heard of the others.

I think you'd really enjoy it...While I enjoy pretty much all Bergman movies (aside from Cries and Whispers and The Serpent's Egg...I can't stand those movies), this is one of his best...Obviously there's the whole story of its influence on Craven's Last House on the Left, which is also interesting...

The Bergman movie I would most compare it to would be Hour of the Wolf...

Anyway, that's my opinion on that film...

Criterion's almost averaging one major studio title announcement per month.
