That Carnal Knowledge makes me think that Ryan Gosling would be a dead ringer for Art Garfunkel in a Simon and Garfunkel biopic.

I believe I saw You Can Count On Me on a flight, and that I enjoyed it. Having said that, I really don't remember much about it.

Re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

You Can Count On Me is a solid film. It had some smart/funny dialog. Also loved Bach's beautiful G Major Suite for Solo Cello played throughout.
The only thing I didn't like about the film was the title.

Lonergan's directorial debut. He took some time for his next film (Margaret) while I really didn't like - before he next/last film Manchester by the Sea.
It was also the film that elevated Ruffalo's career.

I hope they keep similar packaging for it. From the image, it looks like they will at least pay homage to the original DVD box, if not.

Oh, The Big Heat, that is an increeedible film noir, just brilliant! Lee Marvin is such a terrible person in this one and wow, he truly gets his! This will be my first disc at the next B&N sale!

Nothing for me, and it’s a good thing as I left my job in February due to stress and I haven’t gotten anything new yet so we’re just living on my wife’s salary (if anybody knows of a fully remote job, I would be grateful for a note).

I didn't say how he gets his, just that he truly gets his, and when he truly gets his, you'll never see how he gets his so truly comin'!

Ben loaded up in this video. Coral is probably rolling his eyes

He also showed the Criterion for Armageddon. I thought that was out of print. I have it on Disney BD.

Definitely OOP. I wondered if they maybe snuck that in there for him to comment on it, or if the closet actually has OOP stuff available for those who spot it. Or maybe a bit of both, especially when Big Names drop by.

the total dork in me believes they must have snuck it in, because the closet generally appears to go in spine order, with maybe some exceptions, based on where people reach for each title. Armageddon is #40, so it’d have been way into the top left, where he grabbed Silence of the Lambs from.
But who knows, really. I still have my copy, but I forgot to include the commentary when I put it on my Plex server…

I was just surprised to see that Armageddon was in a standard sized case instead of the chunky 2 disc cases that Criterion used to use. I never knew it got a reissue at some point in the slimmer case.

He is so greedy! This is total BS!

Looked it up and his net worth is about 150 mill.
"These films are the reason I got into films and filmmaking. I love them so much. Just not enough to use the money that's fallen between my sofa cushions to buy them".

Must be, because Udo Kier brought out the Criterion LASERDISCS of Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula when he had a go at it.

Re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I just figured Criterion kept a couple of copies of all of their releases on hand just for curation and the off chance someone visiting the closet might want to talk about an OOP release. Like if someone wanted to talk about Rococop, The Killer, or Hard Boiled they could pull the old discs out for the video, but probably not let the celebs walk off with those hard to replace discs.

And he doesn’t even need to use that sofa money, because it’s all swag! The ‘net worth’ of a lot of the celebs venturing into the closet has decidedly increased in the last couple of years. I get it, though; the PR value for Criterion is stellar, so bigger stars = more engagement = more revenue. So far, the number of actual ‘celebrity physical media collectors’ who’ve gone in there seems low, especially now that it’s caught fire as a pop culture bandwagon, and I wonder just how many of them actually fire up the ol’ Blu-ray player when they get back to their mansions. When Carrie Coon went in and basically said that Tracy Letts already owned pretty much everything in there (yet loaded up anyway), I thought, ‘that’s one guy who probably should be in there!” He probably wouldn’t need a bag, and maybe we could find out if he’s really a hardcore cinema nut, or just collects Criterions and nothing else.

She regularly posts (between a lot of political stuff…) what they’re watching together on Twitter/X, and while a good chunk are obviously Criterion discs, not all of them are.

Maybe Letts and Coon should have gone to visit the closet together

Agreed. Gloria Grahame is terrific in the film .... what a role! In a nod to Glenn Ford in Gilda, they play "Put the Blame on Mame" as Ford leaves the bar after being propositioned by Grahame's character.

With the 30% off sale on, I bought this and Some Like It Hot via Amazon.

Re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Nothing!

Besides the fact that I'm broke right now, it seems Criterion has been offering fewer and fewer titles that appeal to me. I find myself going more for Shout/Scream, Indicator, and studios like Hammer.
