I don't have much knowledge of the films that Criterion releases.... but would like to get a few from B&N sale. Can you guys recommend a few blurays?

Recommendatinos are pretty uselsess without a link to your collection or some sort of reference as to what you like. Doesn't make much sense suggesting a movie if you have no interest in the genre.

Fair enough.

I am actually pretty open to all genres. Some of the samurai period films interest me more than others but I figure Criterion only picks good films so I should at least be open to watch them. The problem is I stayed away from buying DVDs/blurays except for a few blockbusters (Batman, TDK and the Bourne Trilogy). I only have 7 blurays and all of them are mainstream. I would like to expand my horizon.

In terms of Crierions Blu-Rays only, then I would suggest you start with the Sanjuro/Yojimbo box set & The Wages of Fear/ Those would be the two I'd go with for someone who has more mainstream taste.

I would recommend Chungking Express. It's a foreign release but fun enough so that anyone can enjoy it.

I'm pretty confident there will be another in November. I heard one of the employees telling someone that this is a sale they do twice a year, so it sounds like they intend it to be a regular thing. The thing I am worried about is them cutting out the $5 off coupon in-store for the next sale. I could totally see them doing that since they disabled it online this time. So a lot of stuff I would have waited until the next sale for, I am picking up now while I know I can save that extra 5 bones.

Thanks, I will definitely stop by Monday to get one (or both). $20 per Criterion is awesome.

Actually, it wouldn't be foreign since I am Chinese :) But I don't watch too many HK/mainland China movies any more since moving out of parents.

Yeah, your right, if he is only buying 2 Blu-Rays & doesn't go to B&N much a membership probably isn't worth it.

This will come very close to giving me a complete collection of Criterion Blu-rays. I passed over a few that I can't imagine myself ever watching, like El Norte.

Possibly depressingly, I've been buying every Criterion disc as they've come out, so I only needed to pick up The Red Shoes and The Secret of the Grain to complete my collection.

I wish I'd bought Mystery Train from there instead of from DeepDiscount. They took a month to get around to shipping my order, and two weeks have passed since without any sign of it showing up in my mailbox.

I hope this is appropriate for this thread, but I bought the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set online from B&N. Upon watching Yojimbo today, the disc froze at 1:13 approximatley, who should I contact to get a replacement?

1. Make sure your player's firmware is up to date.
2. If the firmware is up to date and the disc still freezes, contact B&N for an exchange.

Likely confirmation of the New Hollywood/Bert Schneider-Bob Rafelson set with Easy Rider (the motorcycle), Head (the four monkeys or rather Monkees), Five Easy Pieces, The Last Picture Show, The King of Marvin Gardens, A Safe Place and Drive, He Said.

If that's the case, I'll pick up that set for Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces and The Last Picture Show alone and treat the others as bonuses. :)

I'd buy it! Easy Rider, Head, Five Easy Pieces, The Last Picture Show and The King of Marvin Gardens are all excellent. And I've always wanted to see A Safe Place and Drive, He Said for Nicholson (the latter being his directorial debut).

I'm frustrated by it. The idea of a Criterion BD of Five Easy Pieces is a delicious one, but I don't want any of the others and I'm sure not buying a several movie boxset for one flick. Hopefully they'll break them out later on, but so far they allegedly have no plans to sell them separately. :(
