I love that Antichrist cover. I'm so glad I didn't buy the UK release. Anyone know the release date?

Totally amazing month. I actually happened to be on Criterion's site as they were updating one title at a time, every time I reloaded I would gasp!

I know all those titles have been announced already, but it's still damn amazing.

Amazing month! I am definitely in for the BBS Story. I might wait on Chaplin (wondering if they will release a box set down the line of all of their acquisitions?)

Amazing month! Most excited for Modern Times.

Wow, thank you Criterion, I will now be officially broke during the November sale.

The BBS Story set looks kind of cool, I am only familiar with Easy Rider, so that will be a blind buy for me. Night of The Hunter on the other hand, is on the top of the list. I cannot wait for that one (:fingercrossed: Cape Fear :fingerscrossed: ).

On a related note, doesn't Criterion own all the Chaplin films now?

I can go without seeing Antichrist again, which was worth one screening but not something I'd care to revisit again. Everything else, however, is essential.:up:

Definitely going to pick up The Night of the Hunter and perhaps Modern Times (which would be my first Charlie Chaplin film). Still iffy on Antichrist - not into horror films, but I'm extremely curious about this one in particular.

I recommend everyone to watch this on Netflix Instant, if they have the ability to do so. It's a powerful and unsettling film with some nerve-searing imagery, but might just be worth the one shot for a few particularly shiver-worthy scenes.

Great, great month.

And to the above poster, I wouldn't classify Antichrist as pure horror, it's so much more.

I was under the impression that it would be coming out in December (forget where I read that, might have been when Seven Samurai was going to come out then...).

Surprised to see America Lost and Found is reasonably priced by Critierion standards. I was uncommitted when it was rumored, but I'll happily add that to my November Barnes and Noble list, along with NoTH and Modern Times.

Very glad to see Charles Laughton Directs “The Night of the Hunter,” a two-and-a-half-hour archival treasure trove of outtakes from the film, on the NoTH release.

In addition to what everyone else is saying, it's nice to see another straight month of all Blu-ray releases.

So was that just a rumor Ghostworld would be coming to Criterion? I love that movie.

Also when are we gonna see Ghost Dad getting the CC treatment?

Night of the Hunter, finally! A higher price point, but it's got at least four hours of extras, so I can't complain. In for Modern Times and the BBS box as well. The latter is a MAJOR bargain - 9 discs for under 50 bucks during the assumed B & N sale.

Well, list price is $130, so around $65 during BN sale.

Whoops, I was looking at the DVD price. Still a good bargain, considering all of the discs are stacked with extras, including commentaries on 5 of the 6 titles.

Holy, great month of Criterion releases, Batman!

What's even better is The Night of the Hunter and Modern Times comes out on my birthday!!!!

God I hope the B&N sale returns in November or I'm gonna be more than just broke.

Finally, the BBS set is announced. Been looking forward to this for well over a year. It looks absolutely brilliant. Please, B&N, make sure your next sale coincides with its release, okay? ;) (If it doesn't, I'm buying it anyway...I'm not waiting until next summer for this one).

What a tremendous year for BD this is turning out to be. Apocalypse Now and this set are now my two most anticipated releases of the year. Thank you, Criterion, for making my wallet lighter yet again.

EDIT: Is the listing of six discs for the BD version on their site an error? If not, then I guess two films are sharing a disc. Seems odd.

Night of the Hunter is two BDs (like the pricier Seven Samurai BD release); this is the reason, I assume, for the higher price tag.

I'm in for Modern Times and Night of the Hunter. I'm still undecided about Antichrist.

Not an error... Criterion announced on their Facebook page that "Drive, He Said" and "A Safe Place" would be on one blu-ray disc.

So many films I want....

We do have another B&N sale right? Cuz if so...I'm soooooooooo blowing about $500 fast for all these and others which are like 3 previously released that I don't have yet.

We're getting The Monkee's HEAD on BLU-RAY from CRITERION?!?!

Wow.

Yes indeed. This set was once suggested to be coming from Sony alone. I really doubt Sony would have put all these films out on BD themselves; it probably would have been a DVD release with the "prestige" titles only on BD. (Easy Rider is, of course, already out).

Then word came Criterion was involved and now all these movies come our way on BD.

If I order cases for The Leopard and Che, will they send a slim 2-disc case or 2 single disc cases? If it's the latter, I won't bother for Che since that is how they come already. I'm just trying for a uniform look on my cases.

NoirFan 08-17-10 09:19 PM

I didn't think there were cases for those two.

^ Yeah, those cases (as well as Brakhage, etc.) are intentionally and only in the larger cardboard cases.

Wait, so packaging takes precedence over the film itself?
