re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
regarding 'The Brood' I thought the UK cut was slightly trimmed, while the US home video release is the full gorier cut of the film - I don't want to buy Second Sight's edition if it's abbreviated.

They've been releasing value pack dvd's. It doesn't look like they are going to be releasing any blu-rays in the near future.

I wonder if they'll interview Stephen Lack. Poor guy seems to be the most hated actor in Cronenberg's filmography. The Scanners board on IMDB has plenty of harsh critiques of his performance.

Hell, just do a Early Cronenberg set that includes Scanners, Shivers, Rabid, and The Brood.

Cronenberg commentaries are always worth the price.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The May announcement should be tomorrow. Any guesses?
I'm guessing: Wim Wenders box set (I'm going to keep guessing this until it finally happens.) Eraserhead Medium Cool Lord of the Flies upgrade an Eclipse set |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm excited to see an Eraserhead announcement.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Anyone know why the "On the Waterfront" release is so much more expensive than regular Criterion releases?
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's a 2-disc BD set, so its MSRP is higher by $10. The Battle of Algiers, The Seven Samurai, and Brazil (among others) are also at that price point.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
For those who do not know about thr Subkultur Entertainment release of SCANNERS on Blu, I doubt even Criterion can surpass its quality. I imported it, and the picture is FANTASTIC, easilly Criterion level or above. SCANNERS is probably my favorite Cronenberg film, and my expectations were very high. Bitrate averages 40 Mbits, and the LPCM uncompressed mono track is perfect.
Really wish the earlier Cronenberg films would get the same treatment. SHIVERS, RABID, and THE BROOD would be most welcome! |

Seeing that Lord Of The Flies was JUST hinted at, I doubt it'll be announced tomorrow...
Which isn't to say that it will happen this time - I'm just throwing out random guesses based on what we know they're working on. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Not an amazing month, but I fucking love Life is Sweet, and it's great to see it finally getting an R1 release.
I've never heard of Jubal, but it's also nice to see some more westerns in the collection. |

Hmm... glad to see Band a Part get the upgrade, but not a super-exciting month for me.

My Name is Joe is one of the seven films on the BFI's list of the top 100 British films that I haven't been able to get a hold of/watch, so I'd be particularly interested in a good release of that. I doubt Criterion would be interested, but I also wish some kind distributor would get around to releasing The Angels' Share here in the US. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Criterion needs to get their hands on some Lukas Moodysson. With the exception of On The Waterfront, these past couple months have been very "meh".
