If you're a big fan of Onibaba, the MoC disc is the version to own, with a superior transfer and a commentary track. Here's a comparison.

This is not a teaser for Kuroneko, they've already teased that.

Criterion posted this on Facebook back in October 2009:

(Island of Lost Souls) is a super challenging title from a mastering perspective, so don't hold your breath, but don't give up hope either.

Noirfan,

Yes was considering getting the MoC but they have advised they wont be upgrading to blu and I hope Criterion will. The criterion transfer is good enough till that happens.

Is the commentary worth it?

I honestly can't remember if I've listened to it or not. I've spent $16 on a couple of MoCs just to get the commentaries when I already owned the Criterions (Pitfall and Face of Another), but that's just me. The commentary features Shindo, Sato and Yoshimura, so I'm guessing there's plenty of info between the three of them. The MoC disc also includes a six-minute Alex Cox intro and a 24-page booklet.

might consider it with my next Amazon UK order.

I've recently bought 14 MoC dvds though so I know what you mean The number of releases that are interesting kind of sneaks up on you.

You really can't appreciate how utterly lazy and underwhelming the Great Dictator cover is until you're holding the case in your hands. If I didn't know any better, I'd honestly think I was gazing at a bootleg.

I like the crosses/swastika design on the inner cover.

I'm not complaining about Criterion art, but I'm a stickler for the original art on DVDs and BRs.
And Criterion doesn't uses it too often...

Speaking of covers, check out the surprisingly bold image choice made by Artificial Eye for their upcoming DVD of Solaris, which easily surpasses the Criterion cover (may be a bit of a spoiler for those who haven't see the film):

Kieslowski's Red coming via Facebook hint. I think that will also mean the whole trilogy will come out.

That bodes well for future releases if Criterion is releasing Miramax stuff.

Pulp Fiction aside, Miramax has a great foreign film library that were pretty much always treated like crap on DVD. I'd love to see Criterion get their hands on:

Malena
My Left Foot
City of God
Dead Man

Never seen Dead Man

though the other 3 I"d go nuts for. ESPECIALLY if we got Malena in it's original cut. I wouldn't mind if they Cinema Paradiso either...I'm sure CC would go nuts on that one for sure.

Absolutely THRILLED to see that the Three Color Trilogy will be coming out via Criterion.

As glad as I am to know about it now, it would've been amazing to be shocked by this on announcement day.

I'm hoping this will be announced in a couple weeks...

I think Echo Bridge has the rights to Dead Man now.
