Those who think that A-Ha was simply a relic of MTV and the 1980s and a "one-hit wonder" are sadly mistaken. They flourished overseas while the music press and critics here in the US wrote them off—that is, until their last tour. This band finally received some respect and accolades during their 2010 farewell tour performed on this disc from their home in Oslo, Norway. I've followed them religiously since their break-out release "Take On Me" from the 1985 album, "Hunting High and Low" through the release of their 10th studio album from last year, "Cast in Steel." This live performance moves quickly through their impressive catalog of tunes which stretch over 3 decades—my how time flies. I never grow tired of listening to their music. I was very sad that I was unable to catch one of their few stateside perfomances during this tour—but it was to be a very short-lived farewell and the Blu-ray creates the illusion of watching them live—Morten Harket is hands-down one of the greatest pop vocalists of all-time—man, that dude has some set of pipes! This Blu-ray is Region Free. Here's a taste:

It Came From Outer Space was amazing in 3D. Well worth the very long wait.

The Infiltrator...very good. Doesn't really stand up to the greats of this genre, but very good performances. Especially Cranston. Can he do no wrong? Engaging throughout.

X-Men: Apocalypse (3D)...wasn't the greatest. Certainly the least enjoyable X movie imo. Some scenes were good. The Quicksilver/Sweet Dreams scene was inspired. The rest was kinda ho hum and not so inspired. Kind of a mess, but mildly entertaining.

Good depth throughout and surprisingly not as dark as some 3D movies tend to be. the Quicksilver scenes look particularly great in this format.

The Thing...such a horror classic. Never gets old and this new Scream release is the tits in the visual department. Never looked better.

Ghostbusters (3D)...holy fucking shit. I can't believe I'm saying this with all the disdain it got, but this was the most fun I've had watching a movie in a long time. Just about everything worked for me. The girls, the jokes, the effects, everything. McKinnon absolutely stole this movie and I really hope she breaks out because of it. Would love a sequel. And, this movie was made for the 3D format. It looked spectacular. 2nd best 3D experience behind Avatar. Hands down. This movie was a freaking blast from beginning to end. If you really give in and let go, it's just pure, unadulterated fun. Wow, I'm thoroughly shocked. Easy 4 stars.

Was amazed at how much I disliked this movie. Turned it off after 30 minutes or so. There definitely was some funny stuff in there. Some of the faux interviews were pretty good. I liked Sarah Silverman. I just don't find endless swearing funny after the first couple times. This just kept going back to the same well. The first time it showed them as kids doing a curse filled rap I found it funny. By the third time I found it tiresome. Also, after the first few seconds of f-bombs you get the idea, they didn't need to do two or three minute songs of it. I know this got some pretty good reviews. I know many people find unlimited f-bombs funny. If you do you will love this movie.

Prometheus (3D)...such a great movie. Tries to be this thought provoking "where did humans come from" epic spectacle, but Scott adeptly abandons most of this for pure horror very much in line with the Alien franchise that is so beloved. Just fantasticly simple, with just a smidge of a grander theme on the formation of life. Perhaps, more to be discussed in Covenant, but this was a perfect tension and horror movie.

Not bad. Enjoyed it for the historical aspect but dragged a bit. Had a nice little extra with interviews of Nate Jones' descendants.

At some point I have to research how the Democrat party went from being the party of slavery and oppression of blacks, to the party of choice for blacks.

re: Last BD or 4K UHD disc you watched?

It was a Halloween weekend for me. I watched "ParaNorman 3D," "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within," and Stephen King's "Salem's Lot." After reading a review or two, I had high expectations for "ParaNorman," but the weakness of the story and the not-so-spectacular 3D had me scratching my head. This has to be one of the most lackluster 3D presentations in my anmation collection. Next up was "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within," a title I previously owned and re-purchased at Walmart this past week. My display must be far better than what I had years before, because it looked spectacular. I really enjoyed every minute revisiting this title. It's currently available at Walmart along with "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children—Complete." Both have nifty slipcovers for those, like me, who care about such things. Finally, I sat back to revisit "Salem's Lot." It's amazing that Tobe Hooper was able to create a chill or two in material made for television. It is still rather dated and the commercial pauses are so obvious they are distracting. This film is ripe for a big screen retelling. Perhaps if "It" is a commercial success, we'll see both "Salem's Lot" and "The Stand" on the big screen sooner than later. It's a shame they botched the remake of "Carrie" so badly. But how do you remake perfection? I mean Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie and the great Brian DePalma... why even bother?
