Since this is something like the third post worded virtually exactly like this from three separate people, I'm wondering if this is some sort of coordinated jab. No more "us versus them". Stop it.

I dunno..it seems like most of the problems with Blu Ray have been on Java implementation - thats according to the CE manufacturers - the idea of constantly evolving Java applets that serve little purpose related to actual movie watching ...scares the hell out of me...

I really don't want to deal with having to get (or most likely have to wait 1 month for an update) a new firmware everytime some great producer decided to implement some dinky little Java game....oh and I thought the games and online interactivy with HD DVD was pointless too.

Samsung may drag its feet when it comes to firmware updates, but that doesn't mean they all do. Panasonic and Sony are very quick in providing updates. The new players announced at CES this year are supposed to be using new chips from Sigma Designs that will handle Java titles much better. Firmware is going to be part of HD, so we'll all have to deal with it. I'd rather have firmware provided, as opposed to a player that can't receive upgrades and can never be improved.

Messaging with the remote would be the same as with a cell phone which a lot of people do these days.

I don't see the point to it yet, but that wouldn't be a stumbling point, it's not hard.

All your statements are true. However, not being able to watch a movie when you want to is annoying. Like most of us, I have limited free time. If I sit down on a Friday to watch a movie, and the movie doesn't work and I have to wait a week or so for a firmware update, well that means that movie may not get watched for a long long time. And all of the hassle because of poor Java coding or new Java regime for some stupid game or feature is not right.

I went to 1 Best Buy today. They only had 3 copies of the old Superman Returns BD. I had a blue shirt check their system for more, and they only have 1 in transit. Still haven't confirmed if this will be a new SKU or not.

My brother does and he can text a message faster than I can call and get somebody to answer. I always ask him if he went to the Tulsa School of Textnology.

There are no letters available on the number pad section of a Blu-ray remote.

Yeah, but I'm sure the hardcore text messagers have the letters memorized.

This is what's required to use the feature, then? To memorize where the letters would be if there were letters?

As I said, this is a pointless and unnecessary feature, and a waste of resources. They should focus their efforts on creating useful downloadable content that people might actually want to use.

Yeah, and some people actually attempt to text with those atrocious touch-screen keyboards (like the iPhone has) *shudder*.

Yeah, its a good little keypad MOST of the time. Just wish they would expand it to widescreen like they do for the internet. I have big fingers!

Whats nice though, is that Ive put all my dvd/bluray internet links as shortcuts on my home screen. One touch and im there. Very nice.

Agreed on both counts. I have my Blu-ray/HD DVD collection as a bookmark just in case...

Ayways, back on topic...

Not shocked by this at all. I'm sure some will say "Well we knew double-dips would happen eventually", but then theres always "If Blu-ray was 2.0 when it launched, these features would/should have been present on the disc. But since there was no 2.0 (no required 1GB ram/ethernet port), they were not".

I'm not interested in the AVP gimmick anyway. If I wanted to play a game, I'd do so on my 360/Wii, not some buggy/choppy game on my Blu-ray player. I tried playing "The Fly" game on my PS3 and it was horrible.

Great, so instead of Fox releasing the many special editions they only released on DVD the past year and a half (and are continuing to release in the coming months), they'll just re-release the titles already out with new interactive stuff.
