Yikes!
2001 will be amazing in HD. I'm just wondering how Maltese Falcon will be handled. I want the other two movies included in the new set, but that may be too much to hope for on the HD DVD release. Would they really do a 2 disc set for HD DVD and give all three in HD? Probably not, but I could live with getting the other 2 in SD at least.

just keep the kubrick movies coming. I already have Full metal Jacket and Spartacus on order. I'd love to add 2001, Clockwork Orange, and Shining to that list.

I'm also wondering how Maltese Falcon will be handled. Given the recent Superman issues, I doubt we'll get all three movies in HD. It's possible they'll fit the other two versions in SD on one disc with the HD movie and the other SD special features (that's how I'm hoping they'll handle it). But more than likely, we won't get the other two versions. That's my guess.

I see that DVDEmpire just added the Magnolia titles (Bubble, War Within, etc) for HD DVD release on 10/31. Was there an announcement I missed about the HD DVD releases?

DVD Empire has been very reliable for me in filling orders. I just wish their HD prices were a bit cheaper.

Yes, DVDEmpire is pretty much my main supplier for DVD and Blu-Ray for the simple fact that they always ship the same day. I pay the small fee for Priority Mail and my weekly preorders are waiting for me at home every Monday like clockwork.

The Breakfast Club will be coming to HD DVD. Saw it in one of the promos tonight.

And, again, Kong is a combo.

F'in expensive-as-hell combo discs! They're the one thing about HD DVD that I REALLY don't like.

Relax, ya'll. If you liked Kong on SD DVD, you're going to LOVE it on HD DVD. It's completely worth the upgrade.

What is it with these combos? It doesn't make any sense to me still. If I'm not buying an HD-DVD player until 2008, why do I want a HD disc now? I could see them releasing two discs: the BD and HD DVD combo, but BD, HD DVD/DVD and DVD?

Did they go into details about what special features will be on the Kong disc?

I would think that this will be one of the only discs that DOESNT have all the special features from the sd discs (since there were so many!!).

There's not a problem with the combos themselves. it's the amount they charge.

Fortunately, you can get them for as low as $23 at some places. It was addressed last night but clearly MS/Toshiba have nothing to do with the pricing.

The problem with Kong is the dvd itself sold millions and millions of copies. And they are packaging the HD DVD with the 360 add-on, so anyone that buys that is buying it for HD content. Just seems odd to make this a combo when there's a helluva lot of people who already own the dvd version.

Why wasn't Batman Begins a combo?

Actually, not only is it going to be a top-of-the-line demo for HD DVD, it will also show those who might just have a passing interest in HD DVD that "hey, we can do this too! BD can't." Believe it or not, i've heard J6P's commenting on what a great option it is.

I, too, didn't own the regular edition.

I skipped the DVD for the HD version so a combo is not a big deal other than the higher price. I think it is being done to show new potential consumers the advantage HD DVD has over BD.
