Would they really do a 2 disc set for HD DVD and give all three in HD? Probably not, but I could live with getting the other 2 in SD at least.

I see that DVDEmpire just added the Magnolia titles (Bubble, War Within, etc) for HD DVD release on 10/31. Was there an announcement I missed about the HD DVD releases?

Yes, DVDEmpire is pretty much my main supplier for DVD and Blu-Ray for the simple fact that they always ship the same day. I pay the small fee for Priority Mail and my weekly preorders are waiting for me at home every Monday like clockwork.

One last quick update for today... we have word from Warner on the audio specs for the studio's newly-announced high-definition discs (due 10/30). They are as follows:

Blu-ray Disc - The Phantom of the Opera (Dolby Digital 5.1 - English & French), The Searchers (Dolby Digital 1.0 Mono - English, French & Latin Spanish), Under Siege (Dolby Digital 5.1 - English & French, Dolby 2.0 Surround - Latin Spanish), Unforgiven (Dolby Digital 5.1 - English, Dolby 2.0 Surround - French & Latin Spanish)

What is it with these combos? It doesn't make any sense to me still. If I'm not buying an HD-DVD player until 2008, why do I want a HD disc now? I could see them releasing two discs: the BD and HD DVD combo, but BD, HD DVD/DVD and DVD?

I would think that this will be one of the only discs that DOESNT have all the special features from the sd discs (since there were so many!!).

There's not a problem with the combos themselves. it's the amount they charge.
Fortunately, you can get them for as low as $23 at some places. It was addressed last night but clearly MS/Toshiba have nothing to do with the pricing.

The problem with Kong is the dvd itself sold millions and millions of copies. And they are packaging the HD DVD with the 360 add-on, so anyone that buys that is buying it for HD content. Just seems odd to make this a combo when there's a helluva lot of people who already own the dvd version.
Why wasn't Batman Begins a combo?

I, too, didn't own the regular edition.

I skipped the DVD for the HD version so a combo is not a big deal other than the higher price. I think it is being done to show new potential consumers the advantage HD DVD has over BD.
