^Appreciate that.

Just a reminder to please get your checklist suggestions in soon if you have them. I'm shooting for a Wednesday night deadline to complete it. :fc:

Maybe for the sub-genre / types section "takes place in a high school". There are a ton of choices for that.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I called myself checking, and I might have missed his name, but I didn't see that we'd ever used

Curt Siodmak

in the writer category.

I was just rewatching the promo for the new Elvira special and it suddenly occurred to me our theme night and checklist item for Movie Macabre says 30th anniversary. It’s actually 40th, though! 1981 only seems like it was 30 years ago…

Chad 09-21-21 11:02 PM

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

I think the tropes and everything south of the writers section are done, that is, unless there's any more suggestions. Did I get all the Julie's? I'm slowly, but surely getting the rest in as I multi-task, and still plan to have it finished by tomorrow night.

Thank you! Of course I also had the wrong date on the theme/subset table.

Elvira's autobiography was released today, and she revealed she has been in a long, loving relationship with her partner for 19 years. So glad she is part of our LGBT family.

Also, check out the Howling Gourds pumpkin beer at Trader Joe's. It slaps!

Could we put

Amando de Ossorio

on the "Director" list again? It's been at least eight years since we've used him.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

Alright, as far as I can tell everything is filled in and the checklist is complete.

I just finished(?) it off by removing some dead Letterboxd links and replacing them with fresh ones.

Let me know if I missed any links (alive or dead), categories, etc. so I can plug everything into a table.

tarfrimmer 09-22-21 10:13 PM

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 17: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checklist)

It looks like the link for “Features a character waking up from a nightmare” is currently going to “killer child.”

Looks great! Deep in planning mode now…

What's the difference between "Film title drop" and "Title spoken by character"? That seems like the exact same thing to me.

Good catch. It's now just 'Title spoken by character' with both links.

^Fixed, thanks.

Here's the checklist plugged into the table. You can find it in all the usual spots - the wiki link in the discussion and list threads, the link in post #1 of the discussion thread under 'optional stuff', and the actual table in post #2 of both threads.

It is a lofty goal but a worthwhile one. It always forces me to watch new movies that I probably wouldn't have watched otherwise. It, and the subset films, is my favorite part of the challenge. I hope you get as much out of it as I do.

Thanks orlmac. I have completed subsets and themes a few times, and maybe once did finish the checklist but that was years ago. I do like when I can more into the challenge and veer in different directions. Some accomplishment felt there when I expand my options for sure. In recent years I have fallen far short of goals, but I still like going in with one. The checklist is most appealing just because nearly every film should quality somewhere.

Cow, I think that you might be a wee bit misinformed--Halloween Kills will be on Peacock Premium exclusively, and Last Night in Soho is only in theaters through Thanksgiving or so, as far as I can tell. However, there's still a lot of good Halloween-y stuff on Paramount+ (including A Quiet Place Part II), so it's good advice regardless.

EDITED TO ADD: If you got your information out of Chad's awesome list a few posts back, you might have misread it, as the ways that you can view a film show up AFTER the title, even though those ways sometimes start a line and show up in front of the NEXT film.

Nice, been wanting to check out Paramount, but like someone else said, Halloween will be on Peacock.

Just signed up and it's hard to really search for movie type. Anyone know what is good on Paramount besides Quiet Place 2 and Mother?
