Kuroneko was previously used for a Criterion Crossover pick in 2012 - are repeats cool given Criterions relatively small pool of horror or is that an oversight?

The Final Girls looks interesting for something new. Young Frankenstein and The Frighteners are both older but very good movies, with Young Frankenstein being an absolute classic, must-see if you haven't seen it before. I would vote for the Final Girls as I haven't seen it yet but would vote Frighteners second and Young Frankenstein third (because I have seen it so many times).
Here're some unused Criterion crossover possibilities:
Antichrist
The Blob (1958)
Blood for Dracula (aka Andy Warhol's Dracula)
Corridors of Blood
Cronos
Diabolique
Empire of Passion
Equinox
Fiend Without a Face
Flesh for Frankenstein (aka Andy Warhol's Frankenstein)
The Haunted Strangler
Haxan (aka Witchcraft Through the Ages)
Island of Lost Souls
Jigoku
Kwaidan
The Living Skeleton
Onibaba
Peeping Tom
Scanners
Videodrome
White Dog
There are probably a few that I missed, but I think that we've got plenty to keep us busy without starting to repeat ourselves so soon.

Mulholland Dr. (2001)
Night of the Hunter (1955)
The Vanishing (1988)
Here's a few that Criterion released on Laserdisc. These haven't been used yet:
King Kong (1933)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
Ghostbusters (1984)
Carrie (1976)
Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
Seven (1995)
Dead Ringers (1988)
Already used in a previously challenge:

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
Of course, if everything goes to plan and we've got all the subset picks locked in by somewhere around the 16th, we'll all have two weeks to scour our local libraries, thrift stores, and yard sales for movies that we need. Generally, I prefer to use streaming as a last resort; I feel much more secure knowing that I've got a disc ready to pop in the player.

Criterion - The Blob
Comedy - Haunted Honeymoon (Since Gene Wilder wants people to watch more of his movies and not just the regular popular ones, like Young Frankenstein. I vote for his dying wish.)

Alright, aside from a corrected tagline or two and possibly some updating of links the Theme Nights table is up:
Feedback welcome.

I think it has always been that the themes must be watched on the day, but the actual subset film can be watched at any time during the month.

I think some people will really enjoy The Final Girls. I liked the concept and that there was an emotional payoff, but I think it's a travesty as any kind of homage to eighties slashers. Clearly the filmmakers didn't understand what made the genre work. It's like some millennials idea of what the decade was like and the PG-13 should never have happened.
On a sidenote, I really like Taissa Farmiga. People looking from some good horror TV will want to seek the serial killer series "Wicked City" where she costars with Jeremy Sisto and Erika Christensen. That was a fun watch and way more satisfying than you'd expect from a network TV series. It also captures the 80s with way more coolness. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4428124/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I've been away for a few days, so I need to catch up on the planning stages.

Votes for Criterion Crossover:
Mulholland Dr.
Carrie (has that not been picked before? Classic and another one getting a new blu-ray soon)
Votes for Comedy Crossover:
Tremors - good call from whoever mentioned it. I need to watch it again and just picked up the blu-ray pack. Might dive into the sequels as well for the challenge. Who knows.

For actor on the checklist Frank Welker, the voice of Fred Jones from Scooby Doo since 1969 (and the most consistent Scooby related actor, would include many Scooby Doo films and he has 19 other horror titles (Species, Monkey Shines, Gremlins 1-2, etc). May need to be combined if this is too animation heavy.

I think this thread is intended to be for preliminary subset/theme/etc setup discussion (so should stop in a few weeks) and the other thread the first general challenge discussion thread where people can comment on the ongoing challenge as it starts; there's just a temporarily overlap.

It's been well over 25 years since I first saw Young Frankenstein, so that would be my pick for comedy crossover. I just realized that I have the Monsters and Madmen DVD set, so Corridors of Blood would work nicely for the Criterion crossover. I just picked up Carnival of Souls on blu and I'm looking forward to giving it a spin during the challenge.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
For the checklist it might be fun to have an item like ‘directed 1-2, or few, horror movies’ as a checklist item. That’d be very open ended and could emphasize emerging, indie, or less ‘mainstream’ film makers. Not sure if this would take away from point of checklist by seeming random or enhance it. The artistry of directors like Mario Bava is really cool, but one 'problem' with the checklist is that it tends to limit us to just mainstream or legendary contributors. What about an open ended item for the directors who even combined with others wouldn't make an appropriate checklist item?
For example - The Babadook is Jennifer Kent's only horror movie (she previously directed, for example, a sequel to Babe - the pig kid movie), The Neon Demon is a first horror film from acclaimed director Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Bronson, etc).

It's confusing we have 2 horror threads and this stuff is getting crossposted between the two.
I think this thread is intended to be for preliminary subset/theme/etc setup discussion (so should stop in a few weeks) and the other thread the first general challenge discussion thread where people can comment on the ongoing challenge as it starts; there's just a temporarily overlap.
And yes, it will fade into obscurity (just like the feedback thread) when we're done.

So is Hulu now a 100% subscription based service? You can't watch films for free anymore, right?

Word on blu-ray.com forum is that the blu-ray of Young Frankenstein may be out of print; certainly this is a title Warner will keep reissuing (especially now with Gene Wilder's passing) so this might just be a temporary but poorly timed supply lull. If Young Frankenstein is to be a subset film (for comedy crossover) interested people may want to grab a copy now while 3rd party prices are sane especially since there are no streaming options. It's currently out of stock from Amazon direct but > $6 on Marketplace and may be in $7.88 bins at Walmart. Someone mentioned it'll be showing on TCM a few times during the month.

On the bright side, it's also part of a triple feature that's still in stock everywhere.
