There's a fair few, though - and more when you add TV. Offhand, there's:

The Crow
Spawn
Blade (3)
Swamp Thing (2)
Constantine
30 Days of Night
From Hell
Hellboy (2)
Man-Thing

Vault of Horror
Crypt of Terror
Heavy Metal

Walking Dead & Lucifer (and Preacher) on TV now; Swamp Thing & Tales from the Crypt easily available. Spawn animated, Blade TV spinoff...

Jonah Hex maybe, Ninja Turtles by the not-really-horror-but... backdoor (and more like that, including Batman Returns). Catwoman if you stretch definitions..!

Edit: MANGA is comics, of course...

I'm largely ignorant in that area, but at the very least there's Deathnote (2 & anime) and Battle Royale, presumably hundreds more.* Should be good as a theme, if need be.

*A quick hunt says 30-50, including:
Akira, Assassination Classroom, Terra Formers, As the Death God Dictates, Ichi the Killer, Oldboy, Priest, Attack on Titan, Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl, others listed at IMDb.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

In favor of:
IMDB High Rated Horror
Meta-horror
Period Horror
Modern Horror Films
Frankenstein / Mad Scientist
Fanaticism / Religious Horror
Fangoria Chainsaw Awards
Babysitters/Nannies
Jawsploitation
Sick Games
Peeping Toms / Hidden Cameras
Careful With That Axe

Against:
10 Years of Blu (way too open)
Woman Directed Horror (too vague, I’d rather feature woman directors on checklist)
Necrophilia (seems too specific to sustain a full day, less mainstream; maybe a better checklist item)
Oscar Nominated Horror (IMDB rating seems more relevant to acclaimed movies for horror)

Comet TV streams their channel if you don't get it in your area. It's more sci-fi but they also show horror movies, like Motel Hell. If you like Stargate SG-1, you can get your fill. They're always showing that.

They don't show their October movies until then but here's an idea of what they show

Wasn't it decided that the 'returning' favorites were certain to be included this year? If so it may not be necessary to vote in favor of them again if already a done deal.

For anyone interested in recording movies for the challenge, or even just slipping in a little pre challenge viewing, Chiller seems to be airing zombie movies all day today apparently. Caught the original Night Of The Living Dead earlier, and now the third zombie movie in a row is on.

Yeah, unless someone has objections to any of those there's really no need to vote for them.

7 Subset spots remain.

  • There's no limit to how many times you can vote, or how many themes you can vote for. The only "rule" is one vote per theme. You can do it in this thread, or if you prefer privately - PM or via email. Makes no difference to me.

  • Also, keep in mind that some themes have unfinished or better lists/links coming such as Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary, Fangoria Chainsaw Awards, and more.

  • Certain themes will have to be combined with another theme or two if they don't provide enough titles.

  • And finally, don't hesitate to keep the theme suggestions coming if you have them, which brings me back to what was said earlier -- recheck the list periodically.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Here's a suggestion, and only a suggestion--

Why not take the chronological years faceoff theme and turn it into three permanent checklist items?

We could have one item each for 75 years, 50 years, and 25 years.

It's not like the movies will get stale--we'll have different movies for the three items for the next, what, 23 years?

Just an idea....

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

Is there any way we can work some TV seasons into the challenge?

Maybe every 10 days there could be a TV Theme and a Subset pick. Anthologies, Slasher/Serial Killer, Supernatural, Vampires/Werewolves/Zombies, etc. It should be easy to finish a 13-episode season in 10 days.

A lot of shows are easily available on streaming:

Netflix
An American Horror Story
MTV Scream
Slasher
Penny Dreadful
Z Nation
The Following
Supernatural
The Walking Dead
Bitten
From Dusk Til Dawn
iZombie
Bates Motel
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Zoo
Vampire Diaries
Salem
Hemlock Grove
RL Stine's The Haunting Hour
Being Human
Helix
Wolfblood
Goosebumps

Hulu
The Strain
Masters of Horror
Scream Queens
Vampire Diaries
American Horror Story
In the Flesh
Dark Shadows
Dark Shadows: The Revival
Fear the Walking Dead
The River
Wolfblood
The Dresden Files
American Gothic
Poltergeist: The Legacy
High School of the Dead

Amazon Prime
American Horror Story
Hannibal
True Blood
Teen Wolf
Grimm
Harper's Island
The Veil
Spawn
A bunch of Documentaries and Ghost Hunting shows

I like keeping a theme day (as well) though... I like making the three landmarks xhecklist items, and if change is needed for the day, maybe make it "Anniversary Day" and allow 10th, 21st, 40th etc.

This is a genius idea; I'm in favor.

I'm against the idea of a television series specific theme or subset pick. I do like that television is allowed in the challenge and enjoyed the past 'made for tv movie' day but personally don't plan to watch much episodic tv.

With investigators, you got your guys with thermometers and junk, trying to record something and then they leave, either not finding anything because it's reality tv or they get stalked and killed because it's a movie.

With your seance, you have your teen slumber party and someone brought an ouiji board, one kid had a bad experience and doesn't want to do it, and the others pressure him/her into it before bad things happen. Then the house is haunted and they do everything except leave at the first sign of trouble.

They're different enough that I prefer the latter over the former.

Just updated the Dark Shadows 50th Anniversary theme again. It's currently up to 77 titles with John Beal being the last actor used. More coming.

And still searching for a better link(s) for 'Happy 100th, Uncle Forry' and the missing years on 'Fangoria Chainsaw Awards'. Not very successful, so far. I'm going to try and contact someone associated with each magazine and see where that gets us.

Added to checklist suggestions on post 6.

You have to tread lightly when it comes to television content. That's all I can comment on the matter.

The checklist and theme nights have shared content before, so no reason we can't this year.

7 subset volunteers still needed. Been a little quiet lately.

Also, if anyone has links (streaming sites, whatever), lists, YouTube Playlists, etc. that you think are front page worthy on the discussion thread please share. That'll be going up fairly soon.
