Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl

I say it's high time that James Whale, Dan Curtis, and Terence Fisher made the directors' checklist item again, especially since they've all got films in this year's subset.

What about Juan Piquer Simon for director? He has a few movies released on BluRay this year, including Pieces and Slugs.

I don't think that we've ever used Anthony Hinds in the checklist for either producer or writer (under the pseudonym John Elder). He's long overdue for both.

He'd be a good one with that giant box set of his films coming out next month, or maybe the year after since it comes out near the end of the month.

Thanks! I missed those years so I guess I dogged some bullets. Though I think I will finally watch House of the Dead, this year to finally get that out of the way.

I've watched House of the Dead way too many times for this Challenge, yet it strangely compels me again. Someone slap me, quick!

Exactly one week from right now, I'll be watching my first film of the Challenge, Corridors of Blood.

Color me stoked. Let's get this checklist squared away and start planning our month.

Anyone else decorating their viewing area a bit for the Challenge? I'm not a knick-knack, toy, or poster guy. I have basically never had anything on display. But I have stuff in boxes mostly, like from Horror Packs or something, and finally decided to display a couple things. Here's a pic of Chucky watching over my bed from the highest shelf. Crap, I really want to resize that down a bit, but can't find that option at photobucket.

As already mentioned in the other thread the 34 subset discussion threads are up. The checklist I got a little behind on it (again), but there's no reason we can't knock it out this weekend.

Nice, thanks.

I'm surprised we haven't done Joe Dante, John Landis, William Lustig or Guillermo del Toro. Of course I'm sure it's because they have smaller horror filmographies than the others. And speaking of which, I think we may have finally run the gamut on the big dogs.

There's an option to edit images and I'm pretty sure one of them is to resize.

They have that option on windows (and maybe others) but the bastards removed it on iOS.

Are there any directors that we haven't covered that actually have a sizable filmography?

I only ask because we're gonna have 95% reused content with current suggestions. Or I could always go back to putting two in one spot, or is that frowned upon?

I'd appreciate it if someone could help compile lists of commentary tracks from Joe Dante, David del Valle, Guillermo del Toro and Larry Cohen.

ratethatcommentary.com is experiencing problems, so no help there.

Works on windows but not safari, they disabled it for mobile apparently. I'll probably switch to a different photo host.

I don't know how others feel about it, but I'm ok with putting two in one spot if it gives us better variety. I prefer directors with larger filmographies but it is also fun to try some that are just starting out. I just wouldn't suggest more than 2-4 spots that have multiple directors.

I only ask because we're gonna have 95% reused content with current suggestions. Or I could always go back to putting two in one spot, or is that frowned upon?
Personally I'd rather have everything on separate spots. You don't know how many times I've cursed your name because I thought I completed a checklist, only to find the four directors I just marathoned only counted for two spots.

I'm cool with either. I think Jim Wynorski was the only new one so far. There was Juan Piquer Simón, and I added him to the 'Watch 3 you've never seen before' list due to directing only a few.

Maybe we could compromise and make the majority single entries and just include a handful (if that) of double entries so we can include people like Joe Dante?

I'm overthinking this but has that ever stopped me? I think the "doubling up" on people with limited filmographies was a blessing back when one had to complete all the checks in each category. But now that we've gone to "5 of 10" or somesuch then it's sort of superfluous, and actually moving back towards being slightly limiting in a way. Unless you're listing people together that are a similar style and you're trying to force us out of comfort zones.
