Alright, since voting for the Criterion and comedy crossovers has cooled off might as well announce the winners...
Corridors of Blood (1958)
Young Frankenstein (1974)
And I'll be posting who needs to provide more picks (and for what) within the next couple of days.

For the checklist, can we get movies with a high body count? I want to watch some movies that are just all out gorefests and need suggestions.

This looks like two great choices, we will start off the challenge with Boris Karloff and Christopher Lee and end the challenge with a true classic in Young Frankenstein. I can't wait to see what the other "official" subset films will be.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
Young Frankenstein just so happens to come on TCM tomorrow (Set that DVR if you don't already own it) I'm passing on doing the checklist and themes this year. But one of the few subset films I'll do will certainly be this one.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
I need some quick subset feedback on some potential ones.
The Exorcist III is coming out with a director's cut Blu-ray from Scream Factory on 10/25, and the subset day is 10/3. It can't be moved due to being very similar to the Devil's Night theme; it needs some distance between them. And I just came to the realization as I'm typing this that subsets don't have to be watched on the intended day, so scratch this one.
A better example is Black Christmas. It's getting a presumably much better quality Blu-ray than the current piss-poor one, but not until 12/6. Should that deter it (and others like it) from being selected since the current transfer is the only option, and it's a very highly anticipated release? Should it be put off until next year as a possibility, in other words?

For this same reason I think it's a bummer using Young Frankenstein when the blu is seemingly out of print; although in this case it is more widely available in general.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
I'm for holding off, as there are other opportunities for viewing.
Exorcist III doesn't have to be the subset pick for the 3rd; it could just as easily be the subset pick for the 30th, which is after the new edition's release date. Or we could hold off on it until next year.
Ditto for Black Christmas; hold on off picking it as a subset film this year, and use it next year for another category, whether that category be a return of Christmas horror, or Canucksplotation, or snowbound horror films, or mad musicians, or sorority girls, or whatever. You've already got the theme nights in place; I wouldn't start swapping them around now that they're positioned.
Just my thoughts on the matter.

I don't think re-releases should be part of the thought process of choosing subset films. If it's the first time on home video release sure, but otherwise it's only on the radar of the last few home media relics amongst us.

If we have a plethora of films to choose from, I'd say bump it til next year. If we are short, then keep it in there.
It doesn't affect me either way since I plan to watch the theatrical version anyway this year to refamiliarize myself with it before the new edition comes out.

As somebody who makes a montage every year, I really appreciate having the highest possible quality release available in terms of picture. So I don't mind pushing a film back until next year.

Hi Chad, So sorry for being late with the subset picks. I do have some suggestions, but was wondering if it would be easier for you if I waited until you've let us know what the leftover theme nights are? Otherwise, I can just post my suggestions now.

In case anyone doesn't know, there are a couple dozen movies with RiffTrax commentaries on them at Yahoo View: https://view.yahoo.com/search?query=rifftrax&tab=movies
It's usually a checklist item, so you can plan ahead a bit.

Okay. Black Christmas can wait until next year. Exorcist III can stick around and reap the benefits of being a SF October release.
I guess that means Yahoo Screen is dead. Apparently Community season 6 killed it off due to Yahoo's failure of letting people know it actually existed.
And wow, those Hulu offerings are terrible compared to what they once had.
No problem. It's probably better to just wait since it's currently narrowed down to less than ten needed. And I'm still aiming for tonight.
Guess so

Alright, before I post the remaining subsets needed, let me get the inevitable disclaimer out of the way.
If your original pick or any of your original suggestions weren't used, well, it wasn't personal. Just trying to make the selection process as quick as possible by getting the maximum amount of people using the subsets offered, and without the need for constantly asking for more. This involves getting a good ratio of classic and contemporary, the popular and the more obscure, *attempting* to cover all decades (w/ what's offered), and including a healthy dose of "free" streaming titles (Netflix, Amazon Prime).
Anyway, we need the following volunteers...

Ok, I may be being really dense here, but I don't see the subset films that were selected listed anywhere. Am I just too excited here and jumping the gun? I'd love to know the films that have already been selected.

Also, Fangoria Chainsaw Awards I go with Spring because it was amazing last year to watch or Goodnight Mommy as people have said good things about it. If we can't do that because people don't have access to it, Seances I want Let's Scare Jessica to Death as I have yet to see it and heard good things. If that can't be a pick, let's go It Was a Dark and Stormy Night I would go with The Omen (saw the remake on there, but if the original counts, that's the one I want) or The Woman in Black.

Re: Pre-Horror Challenge 12: Building of the Optional Lists (Themes, Subset, & Checkl
I'm thinking I need to a) PM the last remaining volunteers, and b) rally the troops on Facebook with a post. The problem with the latter is, despite almost having 1,000 people on the page, we'll be lucky if a quarter of them actually receive the message due to the current greed tactics of Facebook. I've been considering hitting the 'Boost Post' button just once and paying the $5 to supposedly reach everyone if only to see the outcome. We could get an influx of new people, and maybe, just maybe a couple of them would be interested in helping. And I'm gonna stop rambling now.
