With the replacement discs...have they changed it in anyway? like changing the music? or perhaps changing the Anakin ghost back to Shaw? also, did they fix the potential lockup problem that occurs at the layer change point? just wondering...

I realize the intent of the replacements was only for "technical" glitches, but I wouldn't have been surprised if someone at Fox had made an endrun around Lucas and made a few tweaks.

But why wait, especially since (if you are one of the few that has any issue) you can get a replacement disc shipped for free?

My player is a Sony DVPC660 5 disc player.
When I played ANH the first time there was no glitch. The second time around I had one hiccup about 10 minutes after the layer change. But when I played the scene again, it was not there. Anyway, I requested a replacement disc for ANH from Fox.
But I am having serious problems with ESB. Is Fox releasing a fixed version of ESB?

This is not a hoax. Fox is aware of the skipping and freezing problems with ANH, and they are offering replacements discs. So call the number and let them take down your name, address, and phone number. You don't even have to send in your current disc, unless they've changed their policy in the last 12 hours.

I bought it about a month or so ago from amazon.com and noticed that it freezes around the scene where Princess Laia is being forced to reveal the rebel base or else they will destroy her home planet. But I was too lazy to contact amazon.com to get it exchanged until I read this thread that I can get a replacement disc without having to send back my original DVD.

It'll be cool to get the replacement disc that will play in my Sony DVD Player. Can't wait.

Has anyone checked their replacement discs? My replacement disc freezes and loops back to the scene where the millenium falcon escapes from the death star, right at the point where Luke is talking to Biggs just before taking off in his X-Wing to confront the death star. I can view the rest of the movie only if I skip the chapter by selecting the next chapter from the menu. Luckily, I can watch this chapter from the original disc I got in the box set. So, in order to watch Star Wars: ANH, I need two discs together!
Thanks Mr. Lucas! This is what he spent so many years working on getting the "best" version of SW on DVD!!?

Hopefully the next release of these movies will be a great improvement over the first. It is very disapointing that there were problems. Oh well at least some replacements work.

I got a replacement disc for ANH from Fox after a couple of weeks after calling that Fox number. The disc fixed the freeze problem at the scene where they forced Princess Laia to reveal the rebel base and then blew up her planet anyways. I didn't have any problem with my ESB disc. So I'm happy that all 3 of my Star Wars Trilogy DVDs works fine now.

I received mine and the case and disc were completely destroyed. I called the Customer Service number again told them what happened and asked if it could be sent in packaging with a little more padding, the Service rep said sure. When I received the second replacement it also was destroyed. When I say destroyed I mean the case looks like a dog ate it and the disc is completely scratched to hell.

This reissue fixes the freeze problem on some machines. That's it.
Lucasfilm/Fox is taking the bizarre position that the flipped channels on SW is intentional.

This is a genuine issue regarding non-playability of the SW DVDS due to production problems. FOX has acknowledged the problem and are sending replacements to people who call them.
So next time before you put your foot in your mouth, please get your facts straight. Thanks.

After reading this thread I decided to open and watch my dvd and sure enough there was a problem with skipping. I called the number and they took my info and said they would send the dvd out.
Gotta love the info we get on this forum!!!
FWIW: The only reason I haven't opened mine is because me and a friend each bought a copy and we ended up watching his that evening.
