I played "A New Hope" last night (you know... "Star Wars" as it used to be known), and it seems my problems are a bit different than others. I'm getting no freeze-ups or pixellation in the Chapter 26-27 area, though I think it gives a slight stutter at the layer change. However, the DD-5.1 track has constant dropouts, starting at the beginning and occurring every other minute or so. Also, there's a noticeable "jitter" or "stutter" when the rebel ship first races overhead in the opening scene causing it to "skip" forward a few frames. I understand this may be a branching issue.
I listened extensively to the DD-2.0 track, and found not a single dropout. But they're nearly constant on the 5.1 track. Anybody got any idea what's up? Have there been any other reports of this sort of problem?
BTW, I've got a Toshiba SD-4900, which has never before given me a single error on any of the hundreds of discs manufactured from practically every region in the world that makes DVDs... but I see that it's one of the players that seem to be having problems with this set.

My Toshiba SD-4900 has stuttering audio throughout both ANH and ESB on the DD5.1 soundtrack. DPII works fine.
Harry Potter, Chamber of Secrets had the same problem on a another Toshiba player. That is the reason I bought the 4900 last Christmas.
Is there a firmware fix for this? I swear, if I have to buy another DVD player, I am never going to purchase a Toshiba product again.

Called, Ordered, gave name, address, phone, model of player, told woud be shipped when received by them in approximately 1 week - not asked for proof of present owenership, nor asked to return original disc. Now I need to figure out what to do with my original ANH.
I actually have small freezes/hiccups on all the SW movies after the fanfare and text crawl just where they make the trasition from opening fanfare to actually starting the "movie"

You guys are killing me with this. I keep seeing this thread is updated so I go into it to see if they are shipping.
Five pages of people saying "I called"!
Can we please leave this one alone until one of us actually receives the damn thing??!!
Thank you. You may now continue with your business day.

By the way...I called 3 weeks ago and they said 1 week from then, but nothing yet. I'll keep you updated each day I don't recieve it since everyone seems to want to know that.

got mine!!!
October 28, Thursday - 7:30 PM
I received my replacement dvd for a new hope today!!! it wasn't shrink-wrapped, no security stickers, etc. it was mailed in a white plastic bag, fortunately the disc had not come loose.
upon inspection, it looks worse than my original disc. the glue holding it together looks inconsistantly applied, and the center ring has what looks like severe heat damage.
for reference: i called the day after the replacement discs were announced. they later called back, leaving a message about wanting to know what kind of dvd player i had. i never returned the call.
i'm checking it out now, but so far the numbers written around the center ring of the disc itself is identical to my first one.

I had held off from ordering this set because of these problems. If I order today from Amazon, what are the chances that I may get a problem free set? I mean, would Fox have recalled the defective discs from Amazon and other stores and replaced them with good discs by now?

Fox didn't "recall" *any* discs, so pretty much every set at retail is the same as those shipped in September.
But why wait, especially since (if you are one of the few that has any issue) you can get a replacement disc shipped for free?
