Apparently somewhere near the layer change, Ch. 27-28.
I sat through the entire movie last night and nothing.
I used the scene selection to get to the chapter where Planet Alderan is destroyed and watched up until the layer change and again, nothing.
For what it's worth I'm using a Denon DVD player.

I used this program to compare them: http://www.tgrmn.com/index.htm?camp=goog_oth
I put one on my DVD Rom drive, and one on my DVD-R drive.
Both were identical according to that program!!
Can anyone tell me the time stamp of the good and bad version of the disc that they have?

On my original ANH disc, the freeze occur around the scene where the general was trying to persuade Princess Leia to give the location of the rebel base, or else they would use the Death Star to destroy a planet.
It's easy to tell the difference between the original disc that freezes versus the new one I got from Fox. All I have to do is load in the disc to main DVD menu. The original one and the replacement one have different main menu.

That's right.
In fact, all five of the Star Wars DVDs have multiple main menus that are randomly selected.
There was a website explaining, however, that you can choose which "theme" you wanted by pressing the arrow keys on your remote while the DVD was loading.

For those of you still waiting....don't give up hope. Mine arrived in the mail today (1-18-04). I called on 12-13-04. Unfortunately it came in a plastic sleeve...no coverart or keepcase. No big deal since I already have the original keepcase. I will check my new version this weekend if I get a chance.

Called last Tuesday and got it today. It came in a keepcase; exactly like the one in the boxset. Insert and coverart was all the same. I haven't played the disc yet though.

You don't need to send your disc back. The Fox CSR will tell you to throw the bad disc out.
That's what they told me to do and I did. No problems.
