Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Just one point of frustration regarding ShopDiscover. To get the additional rebate you have to link through the Discover website to the various merchants, and then use your Discover card when making your purchase. The problem I have experienced is that I can only link through to some of the merchant websites. For example, I can link through to Buy.com, BestBuy.com, and Walmart.com. But I cannot link through to Barnes and Noble.com and many others.

Apparently, some of the merchant websites attempt to install a cookie when you link that my security software recognizes as spyware. I have tried relaxing some of the security settings but I haven't found the specific setting that is blocking me. I asked Discover for help but, while explaining the situation, the problem is on my end. So I miss out on some of the additional rebates through ShopDiscover. Unless I find out exactly what setting is causing the problem I will leave things as is, for fear of creating a vulnerability.

I thought I would mention this in case others find themselves in a similar situation.

Laser -

I always get credited for 10% of the total. I don't even pay at all with my Discover Card. I can confirm that this also worked for the Home Depot. I bought $2500 in gift cards from a local grocery that gives .20 off a gallon of gas for every $50. I got the 1% for buying with Discover, the gas credit, and then 5% back again when I bought my flooring with the gift cards via discover.com

What security software is doing this? I doubt if I could help but it might be nice to know to avoid putting it on my computer. Couldn't you at least temporarily disable the software to get around this problem? I think I would look for a different program if you can't configure it to stop blocking certain web sites.

You mean I can go through shopdiscover and use my BN Mastercard for payment and still get 10% cashback? That would be the best of both worlds since I get a 5% cash rebate with my BN card.

It looks that way, but I've never paid with anything but bn gift cards, so I can't confirm how it works with a different company's card. It's worth a shot!

I'm sorry but I believe I misread your post. When you mentioned not paying with a Discover card I thought you meant paying with a different credit card. However I wonder if the credit card really matters if you have a valid Discover account and use it to make the purchase through their links. I don't know if I would try to use a different card though. However it appears I can make payment with gift cards at least and still qualify for full cashback.

My security software is a McAfee Security suite that is provided by my broadband carrier, and included in my monthly internet fee. I also use Firefox as my browser. I tried to relax my browser settings but that didn't work. I also have Internet Explorer and tried to relax its security settings, and that didn't work. So I assume it is the McAfee firewall that is doing this. And I am paranoid about monkeying with firewall settings.

FYI: I have linked to Buy.com through ShopDiscover and then mistakenly used a different credit card to pay for my order. I got no extra cashback from Discover. I believe you must use your Discover card to make payment in order to get the bigger cashback from ShopDiscover.

I've always heard bad things about McAfee. Never used it myself. However when I purchased my desktop and laptop computers they came bundled with a trial version of McAfee. First thing I did was uninstall it and install my own antivirus software. I'm currently using Microsoft Security Essentials and the Windows 7 firewall. Never had a any problems so far.

Thanks for the information about using a different credit card. Definitely will try avoid using one at Discover. I did go ahead and added my Discover card with my most active B&N account today.

I was wondering how long does it take for cashback to post to your Discover account? I made a purchase the other day at Walmart.com but nothing is showing up yet. The charge recently posted but still seeing $0 cashback earned.

I am so mad at Barnes & Noble right now. Despite numerous emails back and forth over several months, I never received the promised membership coupons. It's been over six months. Any suggestions?

^^
Emails are a total waste of time with customer service. I would suggest calling. I had some luck calling with getting emails temporarily back on a former membership account. Unfortunately it only lasted about three months before they shut it down again.

Barnes & Noble has the most incompetent customer service of any major online retailer I've ever done business with. Worse than DeepDiscount. Worse than GoHasting. E-mail and phone CS sucks.

I've never had a problem with Amazon.com that was handled promptly and to my satisfaction. Dealing with B&N CS is an act of utter frustration.

Aren't they just the same coupons Lasermovies has posted on page one of this thread?

B&N has been issuing more of those store and online coupons with unique codes that can be redeemed only once. Unless someone gives away their coupon you would need to receive emails to get your own.

Yea, but those coupons come and go. I think the poster was talking about the new membership $5/$8/$5/Free Latte coupons you always have on page 1.

There's no need to get mad at them. You don't need them. As stated, all coupons, including membership coupons, are posted by Lasermovies on the first page of this thread. And the great thing about these coupons is the next batch issued will work with any membership. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

Do you mean that the coupon codes on the first page won't work (e.g., the nonmember codes), and that they are just examples of codes that have been mailed to individuals and use?

How did you come to that conclusion from what was written?
Individual codes aren't posted; Laser only posts codes on the first page that can be used by all members or everyone.

No, it's coupons like this one I gave away last week. Usually they can be identified by the longer string of letters and numbers compared to the regular codes most anyone can use on the first page. These coupons will only work one time and are worthless for anyone else that tries to use them after they are redeemed. B&N sends them by email to people who sign up to receive coupon offers.

I also have McAfee and have no problems accessing Barnes & Noble through ShopDiscover. I just placed an order last week using this and had no issue. I have even received the pending cashback notification already.

Will any of the nonmember coupon codes work on the criterion sale?

Coupons are working at the moment but hard to say how long it will last. I'm hoping they decided not to restrict them this time.

Sale seems to be fully live now.

I have three Criterions in my basket, I got one of the 15% off coupons to work, but I am not getting B2G1. Have you or anyone had better luck? B2G1 does not end until 2:59 est.
