I expect that I'm the only Sharpe fan here but I've been patiently tracking several BD Sharpe titles for years and this one is a new low:
Sharpe's Peril $7.98 [This is not a suitable entry point for someone unfamiliar with the books or TV series.] Edit: looks as if it is up to $9.17 now but a marketplace seller has it for $8.96. Oh well. I really don't "get" Amazon's pricing gyrations... |

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
It's a great card if you shop alot on Amazon. 5% back on all purchases, 2% on gas, restaurants and drugstores, and 1% back elsewhere. Other perks too. It will likely become my primary card. I have ridiculously good credit (well over 800) but only got $5,000 initially.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I just scored one of those cards. I have ok credit and got a $1500 limit.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
We have the old card with 3% and are carrying a balance right now, unfortunately, so we probably can't make the switch even if we'd like to, for now.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I'm getting the 5%, but didn't upgrade or do anything with old card...

And now, eligible Prime members earn 5% Back at Amazon.com. Most eligible Prime members have been automatically upgraded to the NEW Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I shop a lot at Amazon and also travel. So I looked over the details of the card and decided to go for it. They work to my benefit and I have Prime.
I have a really high credit (800+), so I was approved for 5,000 The $70 GC was automatically deposited to my account. I have a couple of shittier cards with no major perks that I need to cancel. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Looks like a great card for foreign travel, and a good general domestic card if you don't have something like Citi Double Cash Card already.
One advantage it has over the Amazon Store Card is that it has the Purchase Protection (theft, damage, extended warranty) that most credit cards have. The Store Card doesn't provide that. Extended Warranty is probably one of the lucrative benefits I've taken advantage of on my credit cards. Over the past decade, I've probably saved about $1000 on repair costs to various electronics. The only downside I see compared to the Store Card is that the 5% cash back is not credited automatically. You have to request it manually, periodically. That, and you'd have to have another hard pull on your credit if you're switching from the Store Card to the Credit Card. |
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Hmmm, I have a Citi card that I use mostly and I do like the option of using the points directly on Amazon purchases. I've also had the card for over a decade now with a $15,000 limit and no balance. Not sure if it's really worth switching over.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Looks like they updated my reward card automatically for me. Nice. It's my most used card.
|
Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I also got the $70 GC bonus for the sign up. I'll probably use it for my foreign travels and foreign Amazon purchases.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
My card automatically updated as a Prime subscriber and card holder for almost 10 years now, received the notice a few days ago. I don't really use the card that much since there's much better cards for travel, but I do use it for any Amazon purchases. It's a nice little perk.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
Make prime $40 with the card and you have a deal.

Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray
I just closed my ThankYou Citi card last week. I've also had mine for 20 years. I cashed out my points before Christmas (went with BB gift cards, I never noticed a difference in Amazon value).
The girl on the phone was astonished. "20 years? and you want to close it?" "Why?" "What are you going to use to buy stuff?" Um, cash. That blew her mind. |

That 3% Amazon Visa just switched to 5%, I think only if you have Prime though. I just got an email about it.
Last year Discover card had a 5% rebate on Amazon purchases from July through December. This year I guess I won't need to bother with those rotating offers and can just use the usual Amazon card I've had since 2002. Not that I buy all that much from Amazon — my last big purchase was a 60 inch flat panel HDTV in 2014. All of my regular purchases go on my Citi Double Cash card: 2% rebate on everything. The Amazon card gets used for just Amazon purchases and most of my lower rate cash back cards don't get used for much of anything anymore. I don't buy gas since my car is electric, so I don't pay attention to gas purchase promotions (I also don't pay for electricity since I have solar panels, so I paid nothing to fuel my car for 18,000 miles last year). |
