Re: Amazon discounts and deals on Blu-ray

Kino Lorber just announced a sale on their titles released in the last year. Prices range from $8.99 to $16.99. Starts in August on Amazon.

Hoping the new Norris titles Hero and the Terror and An Eye for an Eye are in the lower price range.

Would River's Edge and The Emerald Forest qualify? I can't remember when they were released but have been hoping for a cheaper price on those two.

Yes, just checked both of them qualify. It's titles released from July 2014 to July 2015.

Sabata is great fun with Lee Van Cleef. Barquero is less interesting but still worth getting, despite the very average film transfer from inconsistent film elements.

This sale could cost me a lot of money.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection (Blu-ray + DVD) $97.99

31 disc set. Is that the cheapest this has been on sale and the best collection to get? I know they got a treasure box set or something, but it comes with the same amount of discs, so just wondering if this is the best set to get with all the special features (not so much the toys).

Yep, it's a fantastic set. Beats their Deal of the Day from last November when I picked it up for $99.

What would the price of the $16.99 titles normally be. Many titles are already at ~$18.

Got my eye on Miracle Mile.

I wonder if the price range is based on current MSRP, which is most likely, or if the discount is based on release date so that the oldest BDs are the cheapest.

Awesome. Just picked it up. Was waiting for a good price to finally get the movies. Now just waiting on Star Wars to drop.

Betting this will be a carbon copy of the Kino sale that's been available on Amazon Canada for over a month now. The list of tiles is identical, and the price range is close (though the cheapest ones up here were $7.99CDN, or about $6.15US). I'm guessing that was a test run, and the continual sellouts convinced them to do it on the U.S. site. There's a separate thread for it elsewhere, but if the prices are even remotely the same, then the Canadian sale may have been the better deal for American buyers stocking up on multiple titles, even with the increased shipping, because of the very favourable exchange rate these days. Your dollar is worth $1.30 up here. Unfortunately, and perhaps tellingly, the prices on the Canadian site just started creeping back up a couple of days ago.

BTW, the EYE FOR AN EYE Blu-ray was $11.75CDN up here, or $8.97US (no tax). Just for reference . . . ;). It's sitting at $12.99CDN at the moment, though.

The Canadian sale might cost you less. It'll be interesting to compare pricing.

Also BTW, the sale up here included DVDs, which carried the lowest price points. Lowest Blu prices were approx. $9.75CDN, but only on a very small number of titles.

I had no idea the USA dollar had gotten that high again. When I had a B&M retail record store, i used to make weekly buying trips to BC as it was cheaper buying at retail in Canada that it was at wholesale in the USA!

So, do we know when this KL sale actually goes live? Time? Would love to get some...

Well, I did make a pretty good case for this in the other thread, but some folks were confident that eBay was the way to go. ;) ;)

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/blu-ray-bar...sics-sale.html

As I write this (Aug. 1), Amazon Canada just reset all the KL Studio Classics to full price, so perhaps that's a sign that the U.S. prices will drop soon? Thankfully I listed the Canadian sale prices for a huge number of these titles in the first post in that thread liked above, so with the help of xe.com folks can compare.

I do hope Kino/Amazon makes this an annual thing. I've already stuffed my cart with a lot of the upcoming Studio Classics titles in the hopes they'll do it again next year.

Now if only Olive would do The same. Frankly, their barebones releases should be discounted this much all the time.

I think I'll pick up River's Edge once the Kino sale starts. I don't really see a ton of other titles that interest me. Do they have any good classic horror films that I may be overlooking?

I'm right there with you on the unwatched sets. What I'm trying to understand is how you only pay $50 for Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, HBO and Showtime.

Amazon = $99 a year + 8.10% tax = $107.02 / 12 = $8.92
HBO Now = $14.99
Netflix = $7.99
Hulu Plus = $7.99
Showtime Anytime add-on to Hulu Plus = $8.99

$48.88

I don't either, I'm on my first card at the moment, but since it's not a given, I always figure in the regular subscription price. I actually had an eBay coupon for $10 off with an expiration date so I bought an eBay giftcard which didn't expire and used that eBay giftcard and ended up paying $19.22 for the year.

So with $1.61 a month Hulu Plus instead of $7.99 for one whole year I'm actually paying $42.50 a month for Prime, Hulu+, Netflix, Showtime Anytime, and HBO Now :D
