Very cool to see people be able to order this way!

I did the same out of curiosity and got the same Invitation requested status. Fast forward a few minutes and an invite shows up in my inbox.

No invite for me yet.
(Not that I needed one, but I put in the request in the first hour it was up)

And not that it matters now, but that means you didn't need 12 months of concurrent Switch Online since I had just restarted mine.

And if you're looking forward to them, why not start playing them now? Then you can appreciate the improvements.

why wouldn't i wait until the enhanced versions? it's less than a month. i'm getting the complete package.

I don't know why anyone does anything. Why would you buy both games months ago, and at the same time, and not even start the first one, if you were so excited to play them? It wasn't like you were waiting for the unannounced upgraded version for the not-yet confirmed next system at the time. The two games are massive and take many many hours to play through. And you shouldn't play (or buy) the second until you finish the first. Do you think you wouldn't enjoy the game today because the rocks and grass lack some textures?
Whatever progress you make will carry over to the new system.

I have a backlog, so what? Who here doesn’t have a backlog of games they bought and haven’t gotten to play them yet?

If you're so excited to play it right away in the morning of the day the Switch 2 comes out, it would probably be a good idea to start playing now, get some familiarity with the gameplay mechanics, get some skills, unlock some of the map. It has a slow start. Make use of this time now and knock out some of the early busy work, on the game you already own, on the system you already own. Then you can hit the ground running. That's all I'm saying.

It’s not a bad idea, but I’m going to wait. Play others until Doom 4 next week and that I’m starting right away as soon as I can.

I got my preorder invitation from Nintendo. It does have a shelf life of 72 hours, so I’m not taking anything away from anybody by letting it lapse.

Maybe have someone PayPal you the $ and you could use to get one for someone here who wants at launch. I’m sure you could have it mailed there perhaps. That would save you the trouble of sending out your self. Just an idea.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25

I know it's probably been discussed to death and I'm truly sorry, but how does the cart thing work with Switch 2? I know the new games (true Switch 2 games) are just codes, but with Switch 1 games that are enhanced (Zelda: Breath of the Wild), would I just put the Switch 1 cart in Switch 2 console and the enhanced version will download from there? Also, I will just keep the Switch 1 cart inside Switch 2 console if I want to play the Switch 2 enhanced version, correct? Thanks in advance and sorry if I am duping another post earlier in this thread.

Most likely yes, as that how it works on every other console with a generational upgrade.

OK, I'm assuming that this is in regards to Doom: The Dark Ages , which comes out May 15, 2025, but by what counting would it be the 4th? It's either the 6th, 8th or 3rd.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doom:_The_Dark_Ages

It will be the eighth main entry in the Doom franchise and the third installment of the modern series, following Doom Eternal (2020). The game narratively serves as a prequel to Doom (2016).

Yeah, I should have said 3rd in new trilogy even though this is a prequel.

Donkey Kong Bananza is not available at launch.

And Mario Party is July, Kirby is August, and Star Wars is September.

I’ll have Mario Kart World at launch (errr…give or take a day), and I’ve preordered Bananza. I might get Welcome Tour, even though it really ought to have been a free pack-in. I’ll maybe wait for some additional impressions closer to launch.

I might get the upgrades for the two Zelda games, although I can’t see myself playing through them in full again, just because it’s such a gargantuan time commitment. But is it worth $10 a pop to see what the games look like at a higher resolution and framerate? Maybe. I will probably get the Kirby upgrade when the time comes.

There’s still plenty of time for more 2025 titles to be announced, but as things stand now, Kirby Air Riders and Metroid Prime 4 are the only other Switch 2 games I’m likely to get this year, and I’m not wildly enthusiastic about either. Maaaaybe I’ll grab a Pokémon game for my wife around the holidays.

Any existing third party game like Star Wars Outlaws, Hitman and Cyberpunk is going to be cheaper and look better on a PC, PS5 or XSX. Absolutely no reason to buy those for Switch 2 (unless you own no other console).

1) You asked the question. Unprompted. I responded.
2) Adam Tyner also corrected you.

If you ask "Which of these games are you going to get at launch?" and then list a bunch of games that won't be out at launch, you are likely to get that pointed out to you. Either get thicker skin or don't post questions. It's not like it's that hard to see which games are actually coming out at launch.

I'm only getting MKW since it's the only new full title that isn't on another system. I will get DKB when it comes out, but that isn't at launch. I will probably upgrademy family Nintendo Online account to play the GC games as well..

Portability could be a compelling hook too.

For me, the Switch 2 will probably mostly be a thing-to-play-Nintendo-or-otherwise-exclusive-games-on device, with a few carve-outs:
  • Pixel art and many indie games - if the games are visually indistinguishable or close enough to it across platforms, the Switch 2 could definitely be a contender. I often favored the Switch for those types of games over PS/Xbox.
  • Games where portability could be great - even if Balatro weren't pixel art, I think I'd be more likely to grab it on the Switch as something to pick up and play wherever/whenever. JRPGs could be nice to play this way too, especially ones that aren't incredibly cinematic (thinking more Persona than modern Final Fantasy).
  • Meeting friends/family where they are - if my nephews, kid sister, or a friend on the other side of the country have, say, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the Switch 2 and there's no crossplay with other consoles, I might get it on the Switch 2 as well to play with 'em, even if it wouldn't be my preferred console.
  • The siren song of a physical edition - I'm looking at games like Ultra Kaiju Monster Rancher and SD Shin Kamen Rider Rumble that I imported, although I don't think either of those were available for other consoles anyway.

The novelty of that wore off for me years ago on the Switch. I guess I don't travel much, and when I do, I'll play Switch exclusive games. I suppose if I traveled for work, or commuted for an hour each way on public transportation, it might be a different story.

I'm in the same boat in that respect. More typically, I mean "portability" in the sense of, like, gaming in bed, or gaming on the couch next to my wife while she's playing on the PS5/Xbox or something.
