re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
On a side note I'm kinda excited that they're continuing with amiibos even though there's no Smash (yet). Street Fighter 6 amiibos look pretty cool, and more Zelda is always welcome.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Like I said in other places, if you think the Switch 2 is high just wait until the PlayStation 6 or whatever abortion Microsoft limps out. This may be the cheapest you will ever see a console again. I'm honestly shocked it's this cheap. Pricing has never caught up with development cost and it's not sustainable anymore, especially in the current climate.
I agree that the tech demo being a paid item is really lame and out of sorts for Nintendo. Other than that I would say the lineup of games could be the largest in history considering the backlog, new games, and ports. The new hardware features are impressive and there was a time in my life I would use the camera but I think that time has past. I'm in day 1 based on DK (who I love and didn't even have in my head as a new game), MK, and WindWaker as part of the GC VC Love all the dorks complaining about the cheaper region locked Japanese console. Like yea Nintendo wants to make sure the console is in the hands of every citizen, it's like printing money. We're going to see alot more of that going forward with (once again) the current climate. |

The game-key explanation explicitly says it gives you a license to download the game and that's it. I don't think there's even a playable game there if, say, you don't have initial access to the internet. Because the "enhanced" games work a little different, it makes some sense for Nintendo to have a "bundle" that has the switch game and some kind of download for the enhancement if only to get rid of their remaining stock, but I don't think that has anything to do with this game-key thing. It's like a sneaky way to move everyone to digital altogether.
I just hope this game-key thing is an option and not the default, but I have a hard time believing they'd be selling regular games AND game-key cards for the same games on the same retail shelves. I don’t know. Seems like they would have the Switch game on there otherwise what’s the purpose on the game key card thing. …but you may be on to something. now it’s been revealed that the Bravely Default game and Street Fighter 6 is going to be a game key card. WTF is the purpose of this thing then? It’s worse than a code in a box if you have to put the stupid blank card in your system anyways. hmm…maybe this is a way to charge their jacked up prices in their specific regions. If they had a code in a box I’m sure there would be a grey market for selling JPN game codes. So maybe it’s to plug the hole in the market while pushing people to digital so they can have region pricing again? But then WHY CANT THEY JUST PUT THE STUPID GAME ON THE CART THEN??? |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I guess the game file size is too big to store on a cart?

It's really no different than disc games that install from the cloud but still require you to use the disc to access the game. The disc is nothing more than an activation key/proof of ownership.

That’s exactly why I don’t like it.
FF7 Remake for example, is around 100gb. I highly doubt the carts Nintendo is using can store that much data. |

I think I’ve been complaining enough.
Some things I’m really excited about.

Or at least the sale of the games. Not sure if the games themselves will be locked yet. Sucks because it’s a consumer unfriendly step. But maybe it will be rare like the code in the box games. edit: Also cyberpunk will be available on a 64 gb cart. So I don’t think size is much of a limitation for most games. https://x.com/wario64/status/1907490743981056091?s=46&t=RU5JGAQg7r9G6o9Z5qL2DQ |

BEST BUY PREORDER INFO:
https://corporate.bestbuy.com/2025/nintendo-switch-2/ Unfortunately when I looked at the $20 certificate deal last night it said hardware purchases were excluded from the promo. Which sucks. I wonder if at least accessories will be included. edit: based on the link accessories will be included. Still sucks it doesn’t include the console then. Seems like the best place to buy it will be Target with a red card at 5% off. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I was interested, but not at the new price point. I'll just stick with my Xbox for now.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Nintendo has released battery life expectations and it's not good. Worse than any current model Switch, even the Lite. 2-6 hours rather than the 3-7 of the Lite or 4-9 of the base model.
Maybe bragging that you didn't make it any thicker isn't so much a brag. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Phrasing.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
$450-$500? :wtf:
$80 games? Double :wtf: No OLED? the fuck? So we're going backwards? Charging for tech demos? Pass Worse battery life than the Switch. Holy hell. Lackluster game lineup? Wow. I guess when Nintendo said they were gonna be able to avoid the scalper problem, this is what they meant. Make the system as unattractive as possible so no one wants it at launch. Well I've been debating some window tint for my car or the Switch 2 launch. Window tint it is. I'll just get Metroid Beyond on Switch and wait out the Switch 2 until it's reasonably priced with some more attractive games. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
That makes a lot of sense.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I haven't had a Nintendo console in years and this is definitely not going to be something I get right away. Maybe not at all. Hell, I got my 1st PS5 about a year after it launched when there was a shortage during Covid. I can definitely wait to see what transpires here. And I'm not a hardcore gamer, so I don't need new consoles and expensive games right away.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I am now starting to believe in a theory that Nintendo is moving to those cart license things so that they can manufacture them anywhere since there's no tariff (yet) on digital goods or downloads.

I'm with you on this. I've had MP4 prepaid since Best Buy put it up in January 2020 and still had the Gamer's Club (so I got it discounted). If BB doesn't outright cancel the order, I'll let whichever version I receive (Switch 1 or Switch 2) determine whether I pick up this console this year. No games shown are of interest to me, and the steep price makes this console no longer a day-one purchase for me. I have plenty of backlog games for multiple consoles to get through.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I'm out at $500 for system plus 1 game.

I guess we don’t have any pricing yet for the enhanced versions. I am curious how much it will be. Hopefully just $10. But this way they can sell BotW and TotK for full price $60 and $70 + the enhancements vs getting the Switch versions on sale like they have been numerous times before.
Ugh…guess I was right. The announced Switch games with enhancements. :whofart: BotW $70 TotK $80 Kirby $80 MP $80 I don’t think they’re selling the enhancements very well. Or are aware of/care about the optics of selling an 8 year old Zelda game for $70. I think it would have been better to just sell the enhancements and rerelease the Switch game as Switch games but compatible with Switch 2 enhancements. The optics on this aren’t great. In some good news I think I saw MP4 was $60 so I’m guessing $20 for enhancements. Or maybe even $10? I still wish this was fully on a Switch 2 cart. Ridiculous it isn’t. |

No rush. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
At that price, I will cross this animal off of my list of wants for the near future. Some piss poor choices and a devouring of years of goodwill. The battery lifespan means that you will be thinking about how you're going to charge it not long after getting it out to play while away from home.
