At least battery power banks are dirt cheap now. It's not super convenient, but I imagine it's a workable solution.

Still at a time when handheld gaming PCs are dropping in price, I just can't believe how underwhelming this Nintendo offering is.
My millennial partner has a Switch but mostly plays her Switch games 🏴‍☠️ on her ROG Ally. I'm perpetually horrified, but the young folks just don't care. And a launch like this makes me think that's gonna be more common going forward

But if they give you the option to buy an OLED model now, it’ll be a lot tougher to sell you on a second Switch 2 a couple years from now!

There were some definite bright spots, but I think this might be the worst new console showcase since the Xbox One.

One thing I will give them credit for is I was sure they would hop on the inflation bandwagon and raise the price for Switch Online, but shockingly (at least for now) they are keeping it the same. And it is also nice how they handle it where you can just go with the minimal $20 one if all you care about is access to online play unlike Sony who completely fucks you over making you pay $80 for that. It shouldn't cost ANYTHING, but like I have said before, $20 is easy to swallow.

You gotta hook 'em on the service first, then raise the price...

Watching a YouTube video and they brought up a good point. I wonder if Nintendo didn’t decide on the pricing of it all until recently. That’s why it wasn’t mentioned in the Direct. Let’s just say recent economic warfare probably made them want to be flexible until the very last minute.

Appropriately… at least one feature is effectively a reincarnation of what Xbox promised (and failed to deliver, mind you):

GameShare is Family Sharing in a different font

Yes the Nintendo Switch 2 boasts game sharing, the ability to share your games with friends and family who don't even own the game. As long as you own it, GameShare will work with up to four consoles at a time including the original Switch and Switch Lite.

It's incredibly consumer friendly and almost makes up for the eyewatering price of the handheld which will be $449 and game prices of $80, setting the tone for future game price hikes. Almost.

Back in 2013, when the Xbox One was revealed, Microsoft had planned to include a feature called 'Family Sharing', which would have allowed players to share their library with up to 10 people designated as family members.

This was meant to improve access to games without the need for physically sharing discs but unfortunately was paired with the announcement of the controversial 'always-online' DRM policy. The backlash included accusations of the scheme being a direct attack on the used game market.
Also of concern, at least to me, is that Nintendo is going to lean into the idea of “game-key” cartridges that require the game to be downloaded from the internet to function instead of cartridges that contain the full game on them. It’s not clear which games will be on these new carts, though, as I saw confirmation that at least one brand new game will be on a full 64GB cart.
Still, the move to “game-key” carts is almost assuredly a response to certain devices that have been made available in the grey market over the last year.

I was thinking: who’s going to order the $450 one instead of the $500 bundle that saves you $30 on MKW? Like, why would you possibly buy a Switch 2 at launch if you didn’t want MKW? What would you be doing with the console otherwise?

This is possible. But I have to believe they could have put the price in at the last minute if they really wanted to. Most of the rancor is about the price so I tend to believe they wanted the sizzle reel to bring excitement and let the press release bring the disappointment.

Eshop.

(I'm one of the ones skipping it after the price reveal).

New And Exclusive Switch 2 Launch Games (that are not Mario Kart World)

Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut

Old Games Available Day One On Switch 2
Hogwarts Legacy
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
Hitman: World of Assassination - Signature Edition
Deltarune (Chapters 3+4 are launching on June 5)
Fortnite
Street Fighter 6
Split Fiction
Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening

Switch 2 Editions and upgrades available at launch
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Now, the percentage of people who don’t want MKW may be pretty low, but there’s plenty to choose from on launch day. Plus, the MKW bundle may not be available in abundant quantities; when it comes time to pre-order, options may be limited after the first few hours.

The list of problematic Switch games on Switch 2 is more extensive than I thought. Wild to think that something like Fall Guys or the Mega Man Legacy Collection could be a no-go (though I’d expect those issues to be addressed). And if you had fun with Ring Fit Adventure, you’ve gotta hold onto your OG Switch.

A little surprised about the pricing complaints. It's not like they just added a bigger screen and a slight power bump. The Switch came out in 2017, how would you not expect hardware that is 8 years newer to not be more expensive?

Now, the game pricing...that is something to get upset about.

Because the hardware is only new to Nintendo. They are still using 5-7 year old tech in the Switch. It should not approach the price of a PS5 when it's laughably less powerful.

I have an issue with the price, but also these specs are what Switch 1 should have been in 2017. Once again Nintendo playing catch up.

Once I got a PS Portal, my switch gaming took a nose dive. Never say never, but right now this looks like an easy pass for me.

Will this turn into a Wii to Wii U misfire?

Everyone I've seen was expecting it to be more expensive, but expectations were more around an extra $100 rather than a $150 premium. Even a Pro Controller is more expensive than a DualSense.

I don't get that logic when it comes to pricing. If the hardware delivers, what does it matter? Every single console is outdated from a hardware standpoint the day it launches. Compared to its handheld competition it's priced well. The ROG Ally at $499-649 and the Steam Deck at $399-$649 both have smaller screens (no 1080p display for Steam Deck), no dock (add $80 to the Steam Deck for a dock), no detachable controllers. Even when you add a 256GB SD Ex card to match the memory of the ROG and the 512gb Steam Deck it's till cheaper.

If you want to do Apples to Apples a 256gb Steam Deck with added Dock is $478. The cheaper ROG Ally is $528 with their add on "dock".

Lol, all that and that's the only thing you see, lol.

Did you own and enjoy your Switch? Did you always feel like you needed 4k (or whatever tech you can name) to enjoy the games you played on it? The Wii and Switch sales both prove my statement. Both underpowered and both crushed the competition in sales. Both provided some stellar games/gameplay.

I don't need the best specs. But I expect the price to reflect what I'm actually getting. $299 was and continues to be the correct price point. I'd even go up to $349-379 because of economics.

I enjoy some McNuggets every so often. But I wouldn't pay $30 for a 10 piece just because they taste good.

Also, comparing a Switch to a full PC portable is not apples to apples.

Wait until you see how much they raise the price of the PS5! ;)

I'll be tempted (like Oldboy) just on FOMO and not need. Unlike most I wasn't clamoring for 4k switch games particularly since I play portable. But I will move over when they force me to because they stop supporting the hardware. But I may be unusual in that I bought the PS5 and Xbox Series X at launch and have barely played them, because of the kids it's been mainly switch, and I'm certainly not upgrading to more than one of them.

Also having more power but smaller battery life is a big turnoff to me. And it's not like there aren't a ton of other expenses that are about to come up because of... reasons.
