re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I've managed to stick with just one Switch console this whole gen so my wallet is ready. I'm there day one.
As for the announcement itself at first I was pretty disappointed. Basically zero information that wasn't already leaked. No price, no specs no formal game announcements. Have to wait another 3 months for more information. But I have to admit it's pretty smart of Nintendo. They basically took back all the power from all the leaks. Releasing just a (really well produced, especially the sound design) video of the body of the video they build hype while leaving a formal announcement at a time of their choosing. Now they just have to keep the leaks to a minimum until 4/2/24 As for the console itself. I'm definitely excited. But it is so strange to see a new Nintendo console so derivative of itself to the point of just calling it the Switch 2. Same logo and everything. I think it's the right move and a real testament to how revolutionary the Switch design is. And that's what everybody wants just an updated Switch console. But it's still strange for Nintendo to be giving people what they want instead of trying to add a new gimmick. One thing I would like to see though is to add back some of that Nintendo charm into the UI. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the Switch's UI. Especially in this day and age where every single pixel in every single device is trying to throw up an ad in your face there's something so refreshing with how simple the UI is and how fast it is to get into a game on the Switch. But some part of me misses that Nintendo charm in the presentation. Like the lovely music of the Wii channels or the fun way they popped in and out. And remember how amazing it was to spin the globe when checking the weather on the Wii? Stuff like that I miss on the Switch's UI. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I'm sure Nintendo doesn't want to quote a price before they see what sort of onerous tariffs are being imposed by the incoming administration. That could add another $50-$100 to the price, I'm afraid. :(

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
That has to be the most lackluster reveal ever. Look it's a Switch but BIGGER! Joycons...but BIGGER! Oh and 10 seconds of one game!
I do dig the logo. Simple and effective. So it's a wait and see for me too. I don't need a MP focused game at launch. I need a strong single player game. Ahem, Metroid 4? |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
What will be the best way to pre-order one once they become available? Back in the day, I would stand in line for hours in all kinds of weather. I'm not about that life anymore.

Sonny, sign up for the best buy preorder notification, but really what you're going to have to do is keep up to date with when preorders go live and then fight the bots for them. If there's enough supply they should be readily available after launch but to get a preorder in is going to be hell if only because scalpers are very very good at their "job." |

Similarly, it could be worth monitoring preorder discussions on Reddit, ResetERA, or...well, hopefully here too. On higher-traffic forums, anyway, these links are shared very, very, very quickly, so if you're in front of your computer or have a phone in-hand when preorders open, you should be golden. If you're rarin' and ready to go when preorders go live, and if you aren't fussy about where you order from (by which I mean not being brand-loyal between Target-or-bust and being open to Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, etc.), I don't think you'll have a hard time scoring a console. Preorders are generally easy if you're ready to pounce, and these are very unlikely to sell out everywhere in minutes. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Pre-order opportunity won't happen before the April showcase either, I assume?
|
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Yeah, I’d bank on that. Preorders for the Switch coincided with the full showcase in January 2017.

Even better, just have it compatible with the current controller.

my thought exactly, why wouldn’t the current pro controller work?

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I haven't owned a Nintendo console since the Wii. But, I only ended up using it sporadically and ended up selling it within 2 years. The last Nintendo console that I actively used was the original NES ages ago.
***Note this is not counting the small retro NES and SNES consoles that were released several years ago and are now out of stock. I still have those. but they are put away for now. Not sure I can muster the $$$ and time to for the Switch 2. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I'll say this: because of the age of my kids and their complete lack of interest in the FPS genre (outside of Splatoon) the switch has become my most played console over it's span. I can barely muster the energy to play my PS5 or XSX but the switch is always available when they're using the TV and when they want to play is the console of choice. So I'm all in on a switch 2 (when it's easy to get).

The $199 PS Portal works great for this problem as well.
My kids have their own switches (which won't be upgraded immediately) but one good thing about that system is for multiplayer games that require separate systems (especially because single screen co-op titles are so few). Like we were never going to have multiple Playstations and multiple TVs to play something like Monster Hunter but playing Monster Hunter Rise together with multiple systems is way more doable. Same with something like Splatoon. |

Hmmmm, I wonder which Mario game that is?

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I really enjoyed the Switch. I still have the one I purchased at launch and my wife has a Switch Lite. Admittedly I’ve kind of abandoned it the last year or so in favor of my PS5 but it’s still fun to play.
I’m sure I’ll get a Switch 2 at some point. I think Nintendo could have done better at differentiating the Switch 2 from the original. It looks very much the same and could be mistaken by someone who doesn’t know better. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Strong in day 1 for this without a doubt.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I didn't follow any of the rumors purposely so have been catching up with them now. I guess the joycon will be able to be used as a mouse? There's an optical sensor on the side? I guess I'm lacking imagination because I can't see what the purpose of this would be. Couldn't they use the gyroscope controls to use it as a gyroscope mouse like my TV remote can do? Seems like a weird product feature. I know the IR port wasn't used but that seems like it could have been more useful.
I'm VERY curious is they'll support Switch peripherals with the Switch 2. Nintendo has been pretty inconsistent. Traditionally they don't. But Wii could be used with the WiiU but the WiiU pro controller couldn't be used with the Switch (not officially anyways). But with the controller scheme being identical I wonder if they'll allow the pro controller to work with the Switch 2. Will they just keep selling the pro controller or add different functionality? Or sell it as it with just Switch 2 branding. I hope they at least use hall effect joysticks as an update. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I heard something about a new Pro controller with extra buttons on the back mentioned by a leaker. No idea if they were legit or not though.

re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
Rumors are a $450 launch price, $500 with Mario Kart. If that’s true, hugely
disappointing. I still can’t believe it. I know the current Switch OLED is $350, but this should be launching at that price considering the internals. |
re: Nintendo Switch 2 - 06/05/25
I’m bracing myself for a higher price tag, but I can’t see the Switch 2 launching at that stratospheric a price.
