There will be cheap knock offs available within weeks of release, probably a repurposed Steamdeck dock.

I picked up a second dock initially (for the Switch 1) for travel purposes, never did use it.

I'd imagine that many of those cheaper options won't have the 4k/120fps upscaling of the OEM dock, if that's something you care about.

, so it's certainly a possibility, just depends on how difficult Nintendo makes compatibility.

True but that's the same price as the OEM from Nintendo (if you buy it with a power adapter).

Yeah, not the best example, I've seen a few others out there for lower prices (with brick) but with tariff fun times who knows what the actual prices will end up being.

Crazy they're trying to charge $60 for a 100w power brick though.

I bought a portable dock made by Asus for the ROG Ally. I think I paid $29. Works great, but of course no upscaling.

Yeah, that’s painful. We’ve had two docks forever so that I can play on my own in my home theater and my kids can play on the TV in the living room. I’m guessing I’ll be able to trade/sell my original Switch for about the amount of a second dock for the 2, which seems ridiculous.

I was wondering what time preorders would go live, and I guess now we know! Target, anyway, is saying that preorders will open at midnight (Eastern) on 4/24.

With everything that has been going on, I’ve made the executive decision to wait until the holidays to get a Switch 2. I have so many games in my Switch and PS4/5 backlog that I’ll be good for a long while.

Good luck, hopefully they aren't like $700 by then.

Walmart is promising delivery by 9 AM (so potentially earlier!) if you preorder by June 4th at 8 AM ET.

I'm going to ride by my local GameStop Thursday morning and see how the line looks. If it's not too bad, I will get in line. If it's a long winding line, I will try my luck with online ordering.

I honestly think so. At least the most disastrous prelaunch period for sure. Nintendo has burned through A LOT of goodwill that they’ve worked so hard to cultivate throughout the Switch generation. It’s just all gone in one single day. Basically every single piece of news since that Direct ended has been a big PR blow. A lot of it has been their fault and some of it hasn’t. As far as the launch itself we’ll see. People in general seem to have short term memory loss when it comes to these things so we’ll see if fans just adjust to these new pricing strategies or if Nintendo will suffer and give up a lot of their user base this generation.

The Switch just has such a large user base IMO it seems like it’s impossible for them to capture it let alone surpass it. A lot of families have Switches and I don’t see a lot of those same families being able to shell out $500 for this thing. Especially in this economy.

Hell, if Nintendo is so worried about margin, just only sell it direct in the US. Cut out 3rd party resellers completely and take all the retail price margin for themselves.

There is no way they would do that. They’re too dependent on physical retailers to push their products and that would crater their relationship. Look at whatever is going on with Amazon. It doesn’t even look like they’re going to stock the Switch 2.

Bundles are always limited time things -- at least since the Wii.

It is ridiculous but Nintendo saying over and over again that the MK bundle is only available while supplies last and only for a few months until the fall show how serious they are with selling their games for $80. It’s their one bone they’re throwing to us. Like I said before and I hate to create more competition to get one, but if you’re at all interested in getting a Switch at any point in its life I really think launch with a MK bundle is the way to go. The bundle will be gone almost immediately and the price will only go up from there. Even a midcycle refresh like an eventual OLED Switch 2 will be REALLY expensive by that point. $550+?? Not sure the minor upgrades will be worth it at that point.

Do we have an exact time when preorders begin 4/24? I know someone above mentioned 12am, but GameStop says when they open. So, just curious if I missed something, which I’m sure I did.

You have to read their fine print… or rather the first FAQ:

https://www.nintendo.com/us/gaming-s...-2/how-to-buy/

When will I be notified about my invitation to purchase Nintendo Switch 2?

The first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, with additional batches of invitation emails sent periodically until purchasing on My Nintendo Store is opened to everyone.

They don’t, at least if we’re talking Amazon US. It’s generally some mix of third-party sellers (sold through Amazon but not by Amazon), used products via Amazon Renewed, third-party products (PowerA, 8bitdo, etc.), or Nintendo products from other regions (UK, UAE, etc.).

Maybe there are some cases where Amazon is stocking and selling old accessories from when their relationship was less frosty, but I haven’t quickly found any.

Amazon US cancelled all preorders for Nintendo products in March 2024, and it’s been a wasteland ever since.
