Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

I can't justify the need for a charging station, but I bought one anyway.

The center console in my couch has USB ports I use whenever a controller is low/dry, and it's convenient since I can just keep playing whenever a warning indicator comes on. Even though it's obviously wired, it doesn't feel like it is. But the prospect of charging without plugging anything into the controller seemed kind of neat, and it theoretically doubles as storage instead of just being another controller sitting on an end table (even though, yeah, it's usually just another controller sitting on an end table anyway).

Did anybody else lose saves with the last system update? I was playing Yakuza Kiwami which doesn't have auto-save, so I made a point of manually saving and quitting out of the game before applying the update. After the update went through, I lost that save as well as a few others made in the previous couple hours. Not a huge deal, but I'm also not sure what happened...

I am glad that you are now able to move PS5 content to an external HDD, but my GOD does it take a while. And it makes your PS5 unusable during the transfer. I just moved some content over to the external drive to free up space for FF VII Remake PS5 and R&C and it’s kept me sitting here waiting for like 20 minutes. Good thing it was only two games I moved or I might be waiting an hour.

Finally got around to setting my PS5 up so I could play some Ratchet & Clank. I have a pretty positive impression of the console so far. The new controller is a pleasant surprise in that I was expecting little in terms of improvement, but it really does feel like a step forward. The one really goofy, albeit minor, thing to jump out at me is that they designed this heavy, beast of a console and clearly wanted it to look good, but built it so it can’t sit horizontally without a cheap, wobbly piece of molded plastic that it poorly mates with. Very odd choice.

Is it possible to stand outside Best Buy or a Target and get one? I imagine with covid restrictions being lifted this will be allowed again? Maybe proof you have been fully vaccinated?

Checking Target’s regular restock time (7:30 - 8:00 am Eastern on Thursday) worked for me. For some reason, it seems like the Twitter feeds have been slower to post those, so there’s a bit more of a window before the bots hit. Good luck.

Sounds like you might have installed incorrectly. My PS5 is horizontal and isn't wobbly in the slightest and the stand fits perfectly on it.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Yeah, you gotta make sure the stand "hooks" line up with the imprinted button logos on the back of the console.

They should have made it snap on though. It's too easy to shift it off balance.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Wobbly wasn’t the best word. I’m pretty sure the stand is on correctly, as it’s snapped all the way on and lined up with the symbols. I have to put my hand on top of the console to plug in a usb or eject a disc, as either of those require enough pressure for the base to turn a bit or wiggle. It’s just odd and feels less stable than any other console I can think of.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20

Ugh, my DualSense is misbehaving again. It’ll turn the PS5 on but won’t get past the “press PS button” screen. I’ve tried every suggestion I can find online. Every once in a while I can briefly get it to be responsive, but it stops being responsive after a couple of minutes. Even when I reset to default settings and went through the initialization again, it stopped working during the HDR setup. It’s so bizarre because the white player indicator LED was still on, but it wouldn’t do anything at all.

So I guess I’m buying a new DualSense once the Microsoft event is over. I’m pretty pissed off at Sony right now.

Anything at E3 about PS5s being readily available at retail outlets?

Not the answer you wanted, but there was at least some kind of acknowledgment! From Axios’ gaming newsletter’s interview with Jim Ryan:

  • The company says it shipped a record 7.8 million PS5s by the end of March, but demand is high, production is squeezedby chip shortages, and consoles are tough to find.
  • "This really frustrates me and upsets me, especially when resellers and bots manage to get their hands on stock," Ryan said.
  • Sony is "working incredibly hard" with retail partners to get PS5s into "the right hands," he said, and pointed to Sony's own distribution service, PlayStation Direct as a way to help that along. That U.S. program will expand to Europe before the end of March 2022.

Not going to happen anytime soon...be it PS5, XBox or some of the newest PC Video Cards....all are in demand, all commanding high $$$....that pretty much everyone in the industry forsees a short supply, high demand even till 2022. both Microsoft and Sony are already looking into changing up the internals for more accessible and available chips...the damad for new Video cards has some restocking, upgrading and using older cards. PC Gamers and Makers have access to certain ones but it's on a limited supply. I checked this weeked on ordering a PC with a RTX 3060 and it said ..'Allow Two Extra Weeks For Shipping"....

Yep. The bitcoiners are buying up any kind of video card they can to make their pretend money, making it hard to get chips for anything else (including cars) and using tons of energy at the same time.

Couldn't be further than the truth but think what you'd like. No crypto miners are keeping you from getting a PS5; a worldwide shortage of silicon wafer material is.

I tried yesterday and again my page stalled after showing I got in queue....I'll keep trying each week but this is getting ridiculous...my launch PS4 is still going ...BUT...more and more upcoming and planned games are being made for to take advantage of the New Gen Tech. I saw where...Godfall...is being made for PS4 but it's more like a lite version. I saw where some other planned games details of where the PS4 Version ill be less of this and that.....I'm on the verge of going PC. It might costs more but it's there with several options plus with it you can get Steam, Epic and XBox Game Pass which just keeps adding and adding more Games....Dark Alliance a new release day one and they announce Back4Blood day one added. ......Sony needs to get their act in order; Hardware and Games....

I was able to just get a bundle off of GameStop's website luckily they were for pro members only so it made it a little easier to get one. I don't need any of the games that came with it, but since buying my Xbox series X this way I know I can return the add-ons in store.

Weren't Ratchet and Clank and Destruction All Stars already part of the PS plus games? It seems weird they would include physical copies of those.

Destruction All Stars yes. (It was $70, then free, then $19 and GameStop likely has inventory to clear out).

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a No. That one just came out a week ago (June 11th) at $69.99. There was a R&C Collection for PS4/5 released for free on PS Plus though.
