Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I got an email from Sony inviting me to get a PS5 today. It doesn’t look like a phishing scam so I’m intrigued.

I never got an email invite, but I was able to score one from Sony Direct on release night anyway.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Big patch goes live tomorrow apparently, officially unlocks the additional M.2 slot and allows remote play over mobile.

I wish it included an update for the controllers.

I would love to buy Deathloop - too bad I can't seem to buy a PS5...

https://www.engadget.com/sony-ps-5-s...135032853.html Still have to put the heat sink on it, but that looks like a really easy thing, at least on You Tube. I actually have the exact same heatsink as this guy here (but sadly in Black, not Hot Pink). So at least I know it fits the PS5 perfectly. |

I've gotten that twice from Sony already. Not a guaranty from Sony, but a really good fair shot at one. Go for it.

Friggin finally with the M.2 expansion. I have been sitting with a WD_Black SN850 NVMe SSD for like a month now, thinking I was in the Beta when I bought it and then discovering I wasn't. I hope it works okay because I am probably past my return window.

90% of what you guys talk about in this thread might as well be a foreign language to me.
NVMe = connector type Heat sink = means of dispersing heat (usually a metal housing that draws heat off the M.2 itself) NVMe is the latest and greatest and very fast. They also make M.2 with SATA connectors. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Yeah, expanding on that, the SSD that will fit in a PS5 has to be a certain size and a minimum speed. The Western Digital one I bought was the most highly rated by IGN. Unfortunately, the only one I could ever find in stock (at Best Buy, but really anywhere) didn't have the built-in heat sink. You can't use it in the PS5 without the heat sink because it would get too hot. At first I didn't want to buy a separate heat sink because I'm not at all handy, but it at least looks to be dead simple to install one and the one I got from
was only $15 and I know it fits (some do not which would be a big problem.
Now this is where Q usually chimes in with something like how he always plays every game one at a time to 100% completion then deletes it and never plays it again so he doesn't need any more space, and that he can't imagine how anyone would ever need more than that. And if that's how you live your life, that's awesome. It is not how I game, I like to float back and forth between several games and for me, 650 GB of storage is not nearly enough. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I just checked and I have over 50 games downloaded on my PS5 including at least 10 AAA games and I'm not even close to my hard drive being full. So more than enough room for me.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I have about 10 games and a full drive
Stupid Black Ops Cold War is 220 gb  it's first on the chopping block. |

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Yeah, 2k, EA, Activision, and Ubisoft games tend to take up a LOT of space.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I am a one or two game at a time guy so the space is never an issue. Plus I have uncapped internet, so other than the inconveniences of having to DL something again, I am fine with the space I have.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
I have to juggle space but have been OK so far. If I'm playing a PS4 game, I try to have it on the internal drive for the sake of load times. Just have to remember to offload it to the external once I'm done.
|
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Yeah, the load times for PS4 games have made a world of difference on the two Souls games I've opted to play. Can't even read the item descriptions half the time which is a massive improvement over what it was in the old days. I've more or less switched back to console gaming now that the load times and framerates are on par with PC.

Honestly since I got the ability to move games between the SSD and external HD, it's not such an issue to juggle content. But the fact that it's a slow process and it requires you to sit on a transfer screen with the TV and PS5 on for the whole time makes the process more painful and time consuming than it needs to be. |
Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
BTW : Looks like I made a mistake and posted the same video twice.
I will put my indented second video below, the IGN guide to expanding the SSD memory slot. |

Those tiny ass screws were a bitch to get loose for me.

Re: PlayStation 5 - 11/12/20
Was going to get a PS5 (if I could find one) but now with most of the Sony exclusives coming to PC I don't need to. My PS4 Pro has been sitting unused in a corner for years- outside of playing Horizon on it, I don't think I ever used it again.
