Well, after a weekend of running the thing non-stop this weekend, I thought I'd take a break and post some in-depth thoughts.

THE GOOD
* The DualShock 4. Couldn't stand the previous version of the Playstation controller. This one is pretty sweet though. The speaker is useless to me though, and there should really be a way to turn the light bar off (even though it's yet to be a problem for me).

* Network speed (when you can connect). Seems much improved over the PS3.

* Resogun. This generation's Geometry Wars.

* Knack. I don't know why it's getting terrible reviews. I've five chapters in and I love it so far. Plays good, looks good.

THE BAD
* Killzone Shadow Fall. Sure it's pretty, but holy god is it dull. Multiplayer feels like you're in molasses.

* The download/install process. Better than on PS3, sure. But I still don't know what the hell is going on and when. Game downloads to the cache, start game, says its ready to install, have to quit game completely before it can? Then it updates? TELL ME WHAT YOU'RE DOING, PS4.

* Uncertainty about the system software/hardware. Sure, PSN is down, understandable but it still sucks. This causes the UI to act screwy. Try to look at a game way down your list of games? Hey, PSN is down, let me throw you back to the beginning of the list. And I've had numerous issues of "oddness" that are hard to explain. Fire up Killzone? Console shuts down. Reboot? Nothing. No system beep, nothing.

* It still sounds like a jet engine. Maybe I sit too close to the console, but I can still hear it whirring away even with headphones on.

Good summary. Why don't updates auto-install? I have to go into the notifications area and choose the update manually. If the game is already open, that just opens that game. If it's not open, it updates the game and then opens it. Why?

Ghosts was the worst offender. Put game in, it starts installing, start campaign. Save game, quit, come back later to install and update. But oh hey that save game file? Nope, gone, you didn't play this game yet. Start over.

Same thing happened to me with Ghosts. Work around is just to select the last chapter you were on.

Ben Heck said that the battery in the Dual Shock 4 is nearly double the size of the Dual Shock 3's battery. I'm going to blame that stupid ass lightbar for the battery life being so poor.

Had another Battlefield 4 issue today. I'm still playing through the campaign when I got a network error code that booted me back to the home screen. After starting the game again, it turns out it corrupted my save data. The only saving grace was that PS+ backed up my save file this morning. So I copied that back on to the system and it turns out I only lost an hour or so of the campaign. It's still really annoying how buggy everything is and I still don't know why I keep getting booted out of the game when playing the campaign since that has nothing to do with PSN or Orgin. Going forward I guess the only safe way to play is to disable the network connection when playing single player.

I believe in the PS4 store, it is the last option on the left.

Oh, I also noticed that Sony is selling 3 year hardware protection plans for the PS4 on PSN for $50 & $60. Guess that's always an option since it sounds like there are some hardware issues out there already.

I assume they used LEDs and they draw next to nothing, AFAIK. Hell, the light is probably no bigger than the one in the DS3 or 360, it just seems bigger because of the white plastic bar. I'll blame the touchpad.

I'm about 3.5 chapters in(on normal) and it's enjoyable, yet frustrating, but all the complaints levied against it seem valid to me.

Sparse environments, doesn't look next gen (other than Knack himself) brutal AI, ridiculous checkpoints, simple but clunky controls, etc. The point of the game is to level up so you can be a badass and kick some ass but the AI is so brutal a single hit just does too much damage and negates getting bigger. Even worse is if you make a perfect run through an area, you move on to the next and die the last checkpoint was before that first area requiring you to do that whole battle again.

You're also at the mercy of the level design as to how big you can get (even if you can go long enough without getting hit and losing your pieces). You never quite feel like you're as big as you want to be.

Also the most obnoxious to me is the platforming. Even the tiniest jump requires a double jump. Higher ones that seem out of reach even with a double jump Knack seems to make, but it feels like the AI cheats to get him up there with his roll. It's weird.

Silly complaint, Knack's voice. Hate it. When he's small the Doc talks to him like a toddler and then this booming deep bass voice comes out. It works for big Knack but they should have had a progressive voice change from when he's small to large.

I was wondering why no one was talking online, and then I decided to check out the voice commands and realized that headset was not plugged in all the way and needed some additional pressure to go in the last little bit... thought for sure it was going to break...

It works for me now, but I had to use the console to turn it on the first time.

OK, after getting my save file corrupted twice now on PS4 I finally figured out what was causing it. It seems like anytime I tried to connect to Battlelog after the initial "EA server issue" code, it would kick me back to the main screen, also killing my file at the same time. So be careful if you try to resume your campaign after the initial failed log in screen.

Also PSN has been pretty rock solid for me. Maybe I'm on a different server than everyone else. It's been a stark contrast to my PS3 experience. The initial update downloaded in minutes. Blacklight downloaded in a snap while I played Resogun this morning. Haven't had any issues getting kicked off or anything like that.

My initial batch of downloads (Resogun, Warframe & Contrast) hung while PSN had a hiccup(around 4-5pm on launch day), but that's about it.

Still not sure I get the download + install + updates method Sony goes with. Just make it all one step in the background.

What's the verdict on Warframe and Blacklight so far? Are either worth getting into?

Of course. You've got to sync your controller with your console first.

I called them and got a 2-yr extension (on the included 1-yr) for $40. Non-accidental only.

Or people with issues post. There's millions of consoles.

I don't think I ever did. I plugged it in before I turned it on.

I downloaded the Netflix, VUDU and Amazon Instant Video. None of them work and launching them kicks you back to the XMB. I'd like to delete the apps and try again, but I can't figure out how to delete apps off the Library.

Plugging it in after powering it on initially is synching it with your system. Before that first connection, the controller is unassigned.

Try pressing the option button while the app is selected?

I forgot I have an Options button now! I'll try that.
