The 3 year protection plan with accidental from Sony is on sale for $48 and change ($59 normally). Any reason not to get it? Seems like a good investment. Is Sony difficult to deal with if my PS4 would need to be serviced?

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

I got it - basically for that price (during a "Spend $60, Get $10 back" weekend promo). I haven't used it yet, but figure even if I just use it to replace a wonky controller once in three years, I'll come out even.

It's weird they never really explain clearly the whole "Accidental" vs "Non-Accidental" delineation, but for the extra $8, it's probably worth it to eliminate any reason to turn your warranty claim down.

I'm not sure how they compare to the Gold, but Groupon has Refurbished PULSE Elite headsets for $59.99

Personally, I would stay away from refurbed Pulse Elites. There is a known issue where the frame may crack around the cups.

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Had a weird issue this morning when I tried to turn my PS4 on. I pressed the PS button on the controller like always but it didn’t turn on. Went to the machine and noticed that the standby light was off. I tried to turn it on which didn’t work. Tried to eject the disc which didn’t work. I unplugged the cord and plug it back in, I tried another outlet and still nothing. I unplugged everything from the back (camera, Ethernet, hdmi, power) and then I plugged the power back into the PS4 and it turned on. When the system finally came on, I got the "Your system was not shut down properly" message but it never shut it down nor did anything that would cause the power to fail.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Eh. More likely it crashed in standby mode.

Certainly sounds like a software failure rather than a hardware failure.

36 Month Accidental Damage - $53.99

36 Month Non-Accidental Damage - $44.99
(feel free to take a sledgehammer to your PS4 with this policy. I assume it'll be covered)

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

Actually, according to the fine print, you can only purchase the Accidental coverage if you've purchased your PS4 within the past month:

In order to qualify for the Accidental damage plan, you must have purchased your new PlayStation®4 or PlayStation®3 console within the last 30 days, and have a valid email address associated with your PSN ID. Additionally, you must be 18+ years of age and agree to the Terms & Conditions of this offer (http://us.playstation.com/support/pr...plan/index.htm). Upon purchase, you will receive email confirmation with simple instructions on how, when and where to call for PlayStation® Protection Plan support. For additional questions please call our dedicated support line at 866-716-7669. (Protection Plans are currently not available to US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam residents). Valid proof of purchase is required for all claims.
In order to qualify for the Non-Accidental damage plan, you must have purchased your new PlayStation®4 or PlayStation®3 console within a year from the date of purchase, and have a valid email address associated with your PSN ID. Additionally, you must be 18+ years of age and agree to the Terms & Conditions of this offer (http://us.playstation.com/support/pr...plan/index.htm). Upon purchase, you will receive an email confirmation with simple instructions on how, when, and where to call for PlayStation® Protection Plan support. For additional questions please call our dedicated support line at 866-716-7669. (Protection Plans are currently not available to US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam residents). Valid proof of purchase is required for all claims.
I don't know if they actually enforce that, but it's what the fine print says.

Something similar happened with mine when a storm knocked the power out at my house for just a second.

so... Corrie and the kids decided to get me a ps4 for fathers day..
they also got an extra controller, the show 14 (Ive been xbox exclusively for years, so hadnt been able to play the show, despite everyone saying its the only bb game worth a damn), and lego movie (my hunch is that one was more for her and the kids)...

i havent been paying attention to console news, updates, etc.. in awhile.. well out of the loop..
what are my must have games and accessories? (not that there are many games to chose from!)

1. Get your PS+ membership and start claiming the free games every month.
2. Wait for Destiny or The Order: 1886.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

(there are a bunch of great games out. I hear AC4 is pretty awesome)

WELCOME aboard!!

...as Dan said get the PSN plus but you should be able to get the (14) Day Free Trial. You can also go to the official Playstation network and do all the signup stuff. but the one year at $50.00 to me is worth it, especially wants coming later. There are some free games for you and the kids and some cheap Indie games as well without breaking the bank. Warframe and for the older crowd is a Free To Play and there's even a neat little free Pinball game to.

I would also suggest hitting some dedicated Playstation sites for latest news, updates and tips to get the best out of the PS4. And as usual some good insight here on the forum. Congrads to the new system....you'll enjoy it and I come from the Xbox 360 and XBL.

Yeah, get one year at that price and then keep your eyes open over black Friday for ~$30/yr. The free PS4 games this month are pretty great. Towerfall is the highest rated T----fall game this year , and Strider has been pretty fun so far.

The must-have accessories, in my opinion:
[LIST][*]Vita or PS TV (Free games on PS+ and remote play)[*]Grip-its for the thumb sticks ($5)[*]Any old micro-USB phone charger for your controller (

re: The PlayStation 4 / PS4 Thread: Still Going Strong

That one year at $40 for now is the deal but I wouldn't jump right awat with the July 4th weekend coming. Besst Buy just annouced a PS4 w/One year deal at $419 for two days. I'd check BB, Amazon, Frys, Walmart and even Newegg sites for some weekend deals.

I second Chess recommendations and the "Thumbstick" covers are a blessing. Also depends on your ear phone/headset likes you can use the included which is quite good or the "Gold Set' is an outstanding deal $30.00 off at $69.00 at Best Buy. You've got the B.B game The Show, not sure your taste in games but Destiny will be the game coming and the Beta is hitting July 17th. Several of us played the Alpha and was beyond my expctations and rumor has it the Beta will be open for (10) days.

End of the month the highly anticipated The Last of Us Remastered hits. A good all-around co-op Plants vs Zombies is mid August. There's The Metro Series Remakes (adult theme). Looking forward September, October and Novemeber will be loaded with great choices.

Thanks for this! NewEgg currently has them for $65, so with the free shipping option and Google Wallet, I just snagged these for half price...awesome!!

Where are you seeing $65 at? I'm still seeing them at $69.99.

Also, still haven't gotten mine yet. Tracking shows them arriving on Tuesday, which seems a little slower than usual with NewEgg. But I guess with the Holiday tomorrow and everything, I can wait.

Looks like it's back up to $69.99. Not sure what caused the short drop...

+1

I'm almost finished with the single player (~85%) game, it's amazing.
