I am impressed with the controller breakdown and the headset* quality improvements should be great.

Also, if it were possible then why not simply buy a license giving you access to the game online rather than having to install it on your system. I still don't believe that this cloud business will be possible for these newer games and will believe it when I see it.

I think shared games will still install the full game on your system. You just can't play it unless you've got permission through the game owner.

Yeah, I'm a lazy bitch. #dealwithit

Seriously, this could be the #1 reason why I haven't played/finished a bunch of my purchased games... too much of a hassle to PICK a disc, let alone load it into the console and put the other one back. I mean, that's like... a lot of steps.

Maybe a 30 day limit, then. Still, it should be extended to more than 24 hours if you have the disc OR if the "first-download" console (ie: the one that you buy the game on digitally, and install it to first) has an extended offline grace period.

Now, I wonder if "family members" sharing an account and library can play the same game at the same time. That would be an improvement in a two console household.
That would be cool, especially for FPS games, where the two players can play against each other on different TVs in the same house.

So then how do you play your games on any system? If I go to a friends house do I have to install a chunk of my game on his system to play it? Will the game be able to be play simply streaming?

As far as I understand it, the cloud stores what games you own and your saved game data. If you want to access something through the cloud, it connects to the MS servers and downloads to the system. Again, you can play the game as it downloads.

RTFM! I mean post in Major Nelson. Or here: http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/license

Give your family access to your entire games library anytime, anywhere: Xbox One will enable new forms of access for families. Up to ten members of your family can log in and play from your shared games library on any Xbox One. Just like today, a family member can play your copy of Forza Motorsport at a friend’s house. Only now, they will see not just Forza, but all of your shared games. You can always play your games, and any one of your family members can be playing from your shared library at a given time.
So yeah, the big question right now is how they will determine who's your family. Since I don't think there are pro-Mexican, I don't think they will require that the ten members of your family live in the same house. Do they need to live in the same city? Same country?

Just in case, I don't think Microsoft will make easy to share games between friends, acting as a family, but I'm very curious how they will handle this.

How can they verify who is and isn't your family? What level of family is acceptable? Nuclear family only? Does the XO take blood samples to verify DNA?

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

Kind of replying to myself, since only the owner and one "family" member can play the game at the same time, there's no way to 11 people to play the same game, COD?, at the same time.

This may still be a good deal, if Microsoft is relaxed about this, not high hopes though.

Oh, being a little bit technical here, being it all about digital rights management, I'm sure they designed it with a lot of granularity. Meaning they can apply/remove permissions over time. For example, if you are playing a shared game you don't have achievements. Or you can't play online. And all of those are just switches in the cloud. This weekend all the share games get achievements! Or can play online!!!

I know that sounds like a nightmare for some, but I can see Microsoft doing that. That's the FUTURE.

Kinect man!, if it can detect your heart rate, it can definitely compare your physical make up with that of other "family" members.... ;)

Damn... I was pretending you were on my "list". :(

Again, don't want to raise high expectations, but Apple kind of did something like that with iTunes Match. All your pirate/borrowed music was upgraded. I'm sure other companies have done something like that. This, of course, may be the first time that's done in videogames.

Brother or other person on your account: Voice message back "Suck it! Headshot bitches!...."

If it is one of those situations like Amazon Prime, where they don't really do anything to confirm "family", then I am fine with that. If there are all sorts of stipulations, fuck them. I'd be far more willing to accept the lack of trade-ins on used games, if basically 2 or more people can split the cost of new games.

I'm guessing they won't try to control WHO your 10 family members are, but they'll limit how often you can change those 10 names around. And as others have interpreted, it seems like it can only be two simultaneous family members playing the exact same game at once, with the "owner" of the game being able to cut others off. So if you and your bestest friend always play games together, then that's fine, but if you have TWO bestest friends who you always play games with at the same time, one is going to have to cough up the cash for a second copy.

I have no problems with any of these clarifications. I can't think of a time since I got my launch 360 that I've been without Internet for more than 24 hours that wasn't attached to a power outage or natural disaster.

My main concern was that trading games amongst friends was a thing of the past. I'm glad they have a plan.

Quickly! Someone get the xboxbestestfriendserfamily.com domain, where you can share games with your "family".

You know it will happen.

The 24 hour "speak to Xbox Live" requirement has to be server side, not initiated by the console. If the servers are down, then they don't send out the verification request. Anticipate lots of "Xbox Live is down, play all the games!" tweets.

MoviePage 06-06-13 09:20 PM

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

That doesn't make any sense. :hscratch: If the requirement is server-side, then you could just leave your console offline and play everything.

chuckd21 06-06-13 09:23 PM

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

The games themselves probably have a secondary verification process, since they have to ping the server upon installation.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/report/a...family-sharing

I forgot about this part:

What about simply giving a game to a friend? This is, again, an interesting compromise. Check it out:

Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.
Again, we need a site to "manage" all of this.

MoviePage 06-06-13 10:01 PM

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

Basically, it sounds like all MS has done here is reword all the previous bad news into "Hey, we're not the bad guys, we've given control of all this controversial stuff to the publishers!"

Meanwhile, this news broke today too: NSA collecting data directly from servers of 9 companies, including Microsoft.
