I ordered my son a controller when I ordered him Lego Marvel for Xmas. I went with the Nyko battery kit since they are generous to actually provide 2 packs and at that point the charging stations see like a no brainer.

From my understanding, with the Play & Charge Kit, you don't have to hook up to the system to charge the controller. You just need to plug it in to an outlet using a USB connector, which I'm not sure if it's included, but chances are you have a USB connector if you own a cell phone. That is exactly how I charge my Wii U Pro Controller.

I just hope the battery life is as good as my Wii U Pro Controller's, because that charge will last for days.

Yup. They've said that if you try to play one of your disc-based games without the disc in the tray, you'll be prompted to either pop the disc in or purchase the digital license.

So do games need to be fully installed anymore? If it does, I'd think the disc needing to be in the tray is a bit redundant.

Rent game. Install game. Return game.

See how silly that would be?

The play and charge kit comes with the battery (which is smaller than the 360 one as it is only about the size of 2 AA batteries) and the USB cable.

If XB1 stuck to its original DRM plans, we'd able to play without needing the disc.

I was expecting it to work like:

Install game
Disc becomes useless

And if you wanna return the game:

Re-insert disc
Data goes back to disc

Well here's my thinking, and correct me if this wouldn't be possible, but couldn't Microsoft just do the internet check thing for games that have been installed and specific to that user? That way, you could play your game without the disc. This wouldn't hinder anyone from playing a game if they have no internet, it just means that you would need the disc every time. Once you return the game, the internet check would not let you play the game anymore.

This just seems logical to me, but oh well, I was really hoping to use this as my primary Blu-ray player. Guess that won't happen unless I go all digital, and I really don't want to do that.

I thought about getting a One to replace my Oppo...but this won't even play 3D BDs? Seems silly.

What would going all digital have to do with playing Blu-Rays?

Oh I got that part. I just usually shy away from third party stuff but I'd rather try this Nyko product instead of dealing with cables coming out of my XBOX One.

But it wouldn't be coming out the Xbox One. The controller is wireless. All you'd need is a place to charge it. I'm not trying to deter you one way or the other. Nyko makes solid stuff.

3D BDs are silly unless you have a nice projector.

The only discs I'd have to mess with would be Blu-rays. I'd leave a Blu-ray disc in, and then go play a game, for example. Just me being completely lazy, but for games that are digital download only, this will be no problem.

The discs are the authentication key after installing the game to the HD. They wanted the internet to be the authentication key, but the internet saw to saying "fuck no" to that notion.

Right, but it'd be nice to do either or, which is completely possible, but for PR concerns Microsoft won't even consider that idea I suppose.

Yo bro, do you even own a 3D set?

I would bet money we will see a firmware update for both the PS4 and XO to playback 3D BDs within the next six months.

I had thought of attaching the cable that comes with the play and charge kit to an extra AC/USB charger I have laying around. Problem is that I think I once tried to charge my PS3 controller that way and it didn't work. I'm pretty much out of outlets near my entertainment center so when my Nyko stuff comes in it will have to be kept in my movie room. Looking into a PS4 controller charger as well now so I might be a convert.

The PS3 controller doesn't charge when you have it plugged in unlike the 360/XO play and charge kits.

I believe they fixed it for the PS4? However, that's another thread and I still haven't opened and setup my PS4 yet. :(

No, and I don't want one. I've seen 3D TVs in person, and I'm not impressed. I'll stick with 3D that's in theaters.

At this point with a 4 year old and another toddler who will eventually play with me I think the cradles for out controllers might be easier, faster and if kept in an adjacent room......safer. Thanks for the help.

3D is just fine on a normal TV. The majority of people watching 3D content at home is doing so using a TV and not a projector.
