Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
So, pretty much on par with what I was expecting. Given that both systems are so young, infinitely upgradeable, etc - there's no way that they both would not have been given the wait it out line. But shit - early adopters pay that tax, it's known, somewhat accepted, and par for the course. I am as excited as balls to hook this thing up Friday night. Still unsure if I'll do the whole TV thing right away though. That part never really interested me too much.
Speaking of upgradable. I really hope that both companies trend towards the less frequent (quarterly maybe?) upgrades to system functionality. |

Good to hear. Nice rental fodder. |

Sounds to me like Kinect isn't significantly improved over 1.0. I look forward to getting the Xbox One when it's cheaper and bundled with some good games. |
Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I'll buy it now and buy an updated edition later.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
Two things that surprised me from the Kotaku review:
-No ability to view the console storage situation and delete stuff like we can on 360. -No warning prompt when switching games, and the first game is insta-killed. I wonder if this is an already fixed issue in the software we will get Friday, this seems like a HUGE oversight. Even the PS4 prompts you. |
Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I never even bought an updated 360. I'm still running refurbished 1st gen hardware for that. I didn't get a PS3 slim until a month or two ago. Once I get a console, I use it until I wear it out. I've still got an SNES hooked up.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
Skimming those reviews, it looks like nobody is taking them to task for not selling an extension cable. I really hate that it's not available.
Some people praised MS for keeping the Kinect in every unit because it was a standard and Kinect functionality could be integrated in every game. The problem is with many folks like myself you literally CAN'T have a Kinect hooked up properly and it's like you're missing out on a lot of the functionality as a result. In the five days that my PS4 was working, I never felt like I was missing out on the UI because I didn't have a camera. This system, while operational without the Kinect, seems sort of limited in a lot of its interface without the giant camera sitting there -- and it's literally not even an option for me. BTW : I'm super-fascinated by the webdesign of that Polygon review. I've never really checked out their site before. Are all their stories that captivating to scroll through? |

Polygon is a digital magazine explosion, yes.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I have a feeling no one is taking them to task for that because the amount of people who game in a front-projected environment are quite small. I'm sure some enterprising third party will offer an extension cable.

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
Yeah, that Polygon site is beautiful. They gave the Xbox a full 0.5 point higher than the PS4...MICROSOFT BIASED BASTARDS!!!!
For real though, the system sounds great from all the reviews. Just about what I expected and will only get better over time. Definitely seems like it already has a huge head start in the UI/Functionality department than the PS4 does and I'm glad I made the correct choice for my next gen gaming system :) |

So while you don't have a front projector, you've set up your home theater as if you did, essentially. I doubt many people have done that.

Today's Bombcast is great listening for anyone waiting for this console. There's some PS4 talk and comparisons of the two consoles, but the bulk of the 3 hours is focused on honest, non-biased thoughts and impressions of the XB1, the interface, the Kinect, and the launch games from guys who have been playing it for more than a week now.

All the lackluster reviews have caused me to request cancellation of DR3... but I do have my Hardened Edition of Ghosts sitting at home :)

Day One editions are available at Amazon. Go go go!

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I was refreshing since right before 8am and it never once showed up in stock for me.
Oh well, I would have just put it on my Amazon store card, haha. |

Re: Xbox One Pre-Release Thread: Upscaled to 1080p! (11/22/2013)
I had it in my cart and when I tried to proceed to checkout, got an error message and then it VANISHED from my cart. I refreshed a bunch of times and had it in my cart AGAIN, and AGAIN it gave me an error message when trying to proceed to checkout and vanished from my cart.
Needless to say, Amazon just got a nasty email from me...I thought once stuff was in your cart it STAYED there?! :( EDIT: I just noticed that even though my cart was empty...it was showing up on my "saved for later" page! I was able to add it from there and checkout. It worked - even though it was about 20 after 8am when I did so! Oddly, it lists my estimated arrival as next Tuesday instead of this Friday, but I'm not TOO concerned about when it gets here, although that delivery date might just be automated by Amazon - or maybe these Day One versions aren't really arriving on Day One. :) |
