Look, I'm not complaining. It just seems odd to tout those features rather than the gaming ones (or even the TV watching ones). Besides, are there that many people who would be early adopters of a $500 gaming console who don't already own some sort of a tablet by now? Maybe there are. I guess I just thought it was funny to tout these features, as well as talking about Smart Glass tech, when a tablet and a cable TV would accomplish the same stuff shown without having an Xbox at all.

Everyone who gives a shit about video games knows that you play games on an Xbox. Everyone. Not everyone who watches football and plays fantasy football knows there's a new device coming out that obviously plays games, but now does all their cool football shit too.

This is like bitching about no one ever making a phone call in an iPhone ad. Everyone knows it is a phone. Now show us the new things.

After screwing with Steam Big Picture a little bit, I can see how the Xbox One would have worked. Seems nice. I think I will buy everything digitally this gen.

That's what I'm doing. If there are any particular Special Editions or whatever that I want, I'll just buy that, keep the cool stuff and sell the disc and plastic case, then re-buy it digitally. I just don't want discs this generation. After installing Tomb Raider, Max Payne 3, Crackdown, Fable 3, Dead Rising 2, etc. digitally, I've seen the light. :)

This is, of course, assuming I can eventually plug a USB3.0 HDD into the console. Hell, I'd even go for a high-capacity SSD if it's compatible.

I'm not a Forza fan, but some new info today puts it at 24 players online, I guess that's a bump from 8-16.

 You are taking a very logical viewpoint in all of this. Xbox knows they need more than just hardcore gamers. Trying for a four quadrant approach is ballsy, but the gaming industry has hit a plateau. If MS does it right, it could have a monster on it's hand.

I love all the new features, having never owned an Xbox. I like one stop shopping for my home entertainment. I hate having multiple devices to do different things. If I eventually need a laptop, it's gonna be one I use for doing basic computing for work.

Aside from fantasy football, won't Madden update players in real time, and other real world enhancements? This will be huge for the sports crowd.

Now give me a ATP World Tour game, and I will be in sports heaven. I just wish tennis wasn't such a niche market. It doesn't help that most tennis games aren't great, but Kinect would be the perfect for such games.

MS is a he?

We will eventually get to a digital world... it was delayed by the initial reaction, but it will come.

Resistance is futile.

I thought it was confirmed we couldn't do that? Is that something that "might come later"?

I didn't see the Xbox commercial during the Broncos game, but I did see this one :

Since the beginning they've said that you can plug a USB 3.0 HD into the console and save anything to it that you can save to the internal hard drive. It was just only recently that Major Nelson said that functionality wouldn't be available at launch.

Good point. I forgot. It's unconfirmed (at launch) for now. All they've said, if I recall, is that it would work "similar to how the 360 works," which as others have mentioned wasn't exactly seamless, and didn't support HDDs. Maybe MS will fix that, but even if I have to delete and re-download stuff sometimes, it's not a deal breaker for me.

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd

This was the original story about external hard drives.

We had the opportunity to chat with Albert Penello, senior director of product planning at Microsoft this afternoon, who was kind enough to clarify a few topics for us regarding the recently-unveiled Xbox One. One thing we were quick to ask about was the integrated storage. 500GB sounds like a lot today -- but so did the 20GB unit in the original Xbox 360. The HDD there was, at least, replaceable. Can you do the same with its successor? Sadly, no. Hard drives in the Xbox One are non-user-serviceable, but Penello confirmed that the USB 3.0 port is there for external storage, which can be used for everything the internal storage can be used for. That includes game installs and downloads. So, don't fret: adding storage will be just as easy as ever.

External Storage... does not indicate HDD, could be only stupid thumb sticks again. :(

I would hope it would support HDD and at least 4TB. :)

I can't see how they could when you have to install the games fully onto a hard drive. Then a stick essentially becomes a disc but in a different format. MS won't want that I don't think.

Music 09-06-13 11:35 AM

Re: Xbox One: Thoughts Turn Ironic on November 22nd

You could install games onto the thumb sticks as well.

I'm not saying they won't allow external HDDs, I'm just pointing out that they have not said that they will.
