Jesus fucking Christ. As a Valve fanboy:
  • Before the creation of Steam and up until 2005, Valve used the company that ended up as Vivendi Universal Games to distribute their games in a retail setting.
  • In 2005, EA took over retail distribution for Valve. EA ended up porting Half-Life 2 to the original Xbox console. Not a lot of people know this considering it was released on the eve of the launch of the 360.
  • When The Orange Box was announced, Valve oversaw both the PC and the Xbox 360 port whereas EA took over the PS3 port. Newell was quoted before the release, "I think the people who have The Orange Box on the PS3 are going to be happy with their game experience. We've done the PC and 360 versions here and EA has a team doing the PS3 version – and they'll make the PS3 version a good product; EA got the job done in putting a lot of people with PS3 experience on the project. But I think it's harder to get it to the same standard as the 360 and PC versions." As we all know, the opposite occurred with Newell then publicly shaming both EA and Sony for putting out an unplayable product.
  • Due to Newell's negative feelings after The Orange Box debacle and Microsoft's fat wallets, Left 4 Dead and its follow-up made its way only to the 360. Due to Microsoft's not allowing Valve to push out free updates to Team Fortress 2 or the Left 4 Dead games, Newell then publicly trashed Microsoft and their Live experience. Microsoft wanted Valve to charge for the updates which they did on Left 4 Dead and the sequel, but Team Fortress 2 never saw any updates on the 360. For those who own the games on Steam, every piece of DLC has always been free.
  • Portal 2 was announced during Sony's E3 keynote. Newell and his team recoded the Source engine to take advantage of the PS3's hardware and even launched Steam for the PS3 which allowed PS3 users to play co-op with those on a Mac or PC. Obviously since the Source engine was already coded for the 360, Portal 2 was released on the 360 with no problems... and yes, the DLC was finally free.
  • The Source engine will work fine... on the XO. Titanfall was built off the Source engine.
  • Source 2, as of now, is PC only. I wonder why...

Yeah, Kotaku mentions Microsoft and the NFL during their initial announcement, so I wonder if they're moving to the One? That would be nice boost for a media-centric device like the One.

Bottom line is that L4D is seen as an Xbox/PC title and I wouldn't be surprised to see the trend continue.

Re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

Wait, there is a PS3 version of L4D? ;)

And yeah, it would be a surprise if NFL Sunday Ticket is not announce exclusively for the Xbox One in the coming weeks.

I know about the past, and how it's limited, and DirecTV and stuff. But just remember the first time the Xbox One was showed, it was all about the TV capabilities, overlays and that kind of stuff. There's absolutely nothing right now, or in the near future, that's close to that kind of interactivity. The NFL is a business first, and they know the Xbox One will change how you watch football games. Specially now that most people care more about Fantasy Football than how if their local team wins or loses.

Jesus, are people really butthurt about a generic term like paywall? It is what it is. It has no positive or negative connotation. It's a word describe the practice of blocking off portions of something (apps, advancing in a game) until the user pays for access.

Chess likes to stir the pot but he's right, shit there are some sensitive folks in here.

Shouldn't surprise anyone, those 2 were meant for each other. Microsoft loves paying for exclusive content, and the NFL loves getting paid for exclusive deals, to hell with making your product available to more fans.

I wouldn't be surprised either and respect your POV, but I think it's much much more likely to be cross platform if it comes to consoles at all. At this point, if a game or series isn't made by first party or published by first party, the safer bet is that it will end up on both.

If you assume that past is always precedent, you risk ending up like this guy:

A deal with the NFL will not get Sunday Ticket on Live, but a deal with DirectTV could, and that could very well be in the works. I hope it is.

As it stands, I don't see how anybody gets "Sunday Ticket" from the existing announcement.

It's the logical next step. That's why all websites reporting this (PS3 dropping Sunday Ticket) are mentioning the Microsoft deal too.

I'll buy that. Hope you guys get it.

It would be a solid application of the direction they wanted to take the console in the first place.

I don't care about COD, but today is another important day for the Xbox One release. In a few minutes they are going to announce how MP is going to work for this game or something like that. It should get COD players excited.

Xbox One delayed in eight markets

I'm guessing MS is delaying things in what are probably underperforming markets

Smart.

Xbox One 'Season Pass Guarantee' secures DLC across generations

Microsoft is instituting a "Season Pass Guarantee" for games from select publishers that are launching both on Xbox 360 and Xbox One, the company announced on Xbox Wire today.

"With Season Pass Guarantee, you can purchase a Season Pass for a participating Xbox 360 title and automatically receive access to download the equivalent Xbox One Season Pass," the blog post reads. It stipulates that the guarantee will be effective with the "biggest publishers," naming Ubisoft, EA and Activision as a few of the partners in the deal. It also mentions that players must own the game on both consoles in order to transfer their season passes.

"Stay tuned as publishers and titles participating in the Season Pass program are announced in the coming months," the post adds.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will allow this kind of season pass transfer across console generations so long as the transfer stays in the console family — Xbox 360 season pass owners will have their content transferred to Xbox One, and PlayStation 3 owners will have it moved to PlayStation 4. Whether this is part of the guarantee isn't clear, but the principle is largely the same.

We have reached out to Sony to find out if they'll have a similar program in place for PlayStation 4.

That could work out nice for those wanting to do the Gamestop trade in thingy.

All of MS' withdrawals intrigue me but I don't know if it is enough to get me back on the Xbox fence. I had decided to wait a year before buying either console but had also decided that if there was a good bundle deal (Vita & PS4), that I may bite early on that.

Between both consoles, the PS4 and Vita connectivity interest me the most.

We shall see. I have been working diligently on my back catalog just to try to get where I feel comfortable picking up a new system.

Looks like none of the video game consoles are getting NFL Sunday Ticket: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/14/ps...eive-live-eve/

Update: DirecTV has confirmed with Joystiq that NFL Sunday Ticket will not be available on PS3, nor will it be available this year on Xbox 360 or Xbox One.

Update #2: DirecTV has also confirmed that NFL Sunday Ticket will not be available through the PS4.

So there it is. No Sunday Ticket. They still could get something like Red Zone, the channel that the cable companies get, but it's not as great as Sunday ticket.

BTW, have they mentioned before that the console was going to be released in November?
So they either release the console in the same week of COD or after that.

My guess: they release the console in the same week.

They probably don't have enough units. Put all available units into the biggest markets. That could be because they're having manufacturing problems or because of increased demand after the policy changes.
