No, it sounds like the other people can play using their unique gamertags. So if their gamertag normally doesn't have Gold, when they login to your Gold Xbox One, or you log into their Xbox One, their gamertag temporarily has Gold access.

I'm intrigued, I know the part about giving non-gold member gold access, but how does the Xbox One know not to give the achievement to the gold member, but the temporary non-gold member? Is there going to be a sub-account logging after the gold member logged in?

As of now, I don't see how another gamertag log into the X360 while the main user is logged on. Maybe that's different on the Xbox One?

Because you have true different accounts on the Xbox, it knows who is playing what...

Didn't the 360 know which achievement to grant which gamer tag that was logged in? I swear I recall playing local co-op games and they were able to separate which player did what. I imagine they could expand on that for Live.

I'm not following you... Maybe how I pictured it is different. Let's say I'm gold, I logged into my friend's Xbox One and I went to watch a movie in a different room. Now, my friend doesn't have gold, but he should be able to play online because I logged onto his machine. So, how does my friend signs in while I'm signed in? I'm assuming the Xbox One know what it's doing... Typically, you can't have two accounts active at the same time.

I'm asking this because this can change achievement hunting... You can earn two or more sets of achievements locally at the same time (picture a game supports FOUR local players, each player can be a legitimate XB user, meaning that instead of achievements rewarded to the main user, the other three players will be rewarded too).

On the X360, the achievements are rewarded to the main user who logged in. For local multi-players, the 2nd player is shown as "guest." You can't log in as a legitimate XB user as the second player (locally, i.e. sharing the same screen).

I don't get it. You're paying an extra $10 to play a month (give or take)early?

Getting to play multiplayer with friends until they buy a PS4/X1 sounds good on paper, but the offer is only good until 12/31. No playing Cod for 6 months and then upgrading as a group. As for single player games like Assassin's Creed, why spend time playing hours and hours only to lose that save when you switch platforms? Are people going to build their Madden teams/franchises and start fresh a few weeks later? Spend time leveling up in CoD or Battlefield and walk away? Will people buy map packs for that brief window in time before 12/31?

I dunno, it just seems like a gimmick.

So your home console will function much like the PS3 and when you are at a friends it will work the same as the 360. Am I reading that right?

This sounds more like the PS3 system.

360 each person has their own account and can be logged into the same local multiplayer game as anyone else on the console.

Each person earns their own achievements in the game.

If they are in an online multiplayer game and they don't have Gold, then yes they would show up as the same name as the main user who has gold and then I think a 1 after it?

Ah okay... Well, I'm a loner on the X360, so never really test it out. That explains everything, thanks.

This already happens on the 360.

I get what you are saying with this scenario, and I don't believe that is possible on the 360, maybe it is different on the One.

Yeah, I read another article... and didn't see something that was "NEW"

http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/09/xbox-one-home-gold/

The Xbox One game console will enable all users of a single console to enjoy the benefits of a single users' Xbox Live Gold account, Microsoft announced this afternoon. This initiative, called "Home Gold," includes online multiplayer, various streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, NFL), Game DVR and the One Guide -- services that are specifically enabled through Xbox Live Gold membership ($60 a year). That also includes digital games that any user of a single Xbox One purchased as well, a variant of functionality that Microsoft previously promised with Xbox One and subsequently rolled back after consumers reacted negatively.

Microsoft's Xbox VP Marc Whitten announced as much on the company's Xbox news site, Xbox Wire, where he wrote:

"It means that your account and your gamertag are truly yours. You don't have to share your gamertag for multiplayer gaming with others in your home, or see recommendations for your kid's cartoons next to the recommended first-person shooter for you. It also means that you can introduce new games and enjoy multiplayer with friends while they are at your house. Last but not least, it also means that when you buy one Xbox Live Gold membership, multiple people can enjoy the best benefits of Xbox Live Gold on your Xbox One at no additional charge."

Apparently the same XBL Gold account can be signed in on both an Xbox One and an Xbox 360; as expected, Xbox 360 Gold accounts carry over to Xbox One, though this is the first we're hearing about peaceful co-existence between the two consoles. We'll surely hear more from Whitten and co. in Cologne, Germany during Gamescom 2013 in just a few weeks.

I dunno, it just seems like a gimmick.

But with no backwards compatibility, and an upgrade to an Xbox One, what other choice would you have? Would you keep the 360 around just to keep your existing game or progress? Hold off upgrading just so you can finish those games? Could CoD progress and profile be based on your gamertag anyway, so it carries over?

You're right about the concerns, but I think the option being there is pretty nice and beneficial enough to be more then just a gimmick. Everyone's situation is different, and it helps cover them

As for the date, I mentioned before but it's perfectly timed for the X-Mas sales.

Pretty much. Cheaper than renting it for that entire period I guess.

As I've mentioned before, Madden and FIFA will allow transfers of team data from 360 to One:

DICE is considering stats migration for Battlefield 4:

the sooner you admit you are just trolling the better it will be for everyone in this thread. you come in, make snarky comments under the guise you have something to contribute. you don't really contribute, honestly. as you can tell, i'm not the only one that feels this way.

:hscratch: Just wait for the X1 to launch and buy it there? Experience the best version of the game first on that brand new $400-500 investment.

Obviously not everyone wants to wait. For instance I can see Madden fans wanting to play right away when Football season starts. Others might not get their next generation console until Christmas (or don't know if they're getting them as gifts), but want to play CoD/BF right away with their friends on current consoles that was mentioned before.

It's pretty easy to come up with a lot of good reasons or situations for the promotion. I don't see the issue at all

Or pay $10 to play it for a month or two before the new consoles come out/you get your reserved console?

I'm not terribly interested in hearing how butt-hurt you are about every perceived slight of your precious chosen console.

I'm interested in all consoles (have 7 currently hooked up in my house and 3 others in storage), and as far as I know, I'm free to discuss them all whether it hurts your feelings or not. :)

I don't think you're trolling, just that it's obvious you're a Sony guy that for whatever reason doesn't want to admit it, and always trying to act like your neutral and unbiased is what has caught the eye of more then a few people here (like was mentioned earlier here, "trying too hard"). I've mentioned it before and you got mad at me too. The funny thing is many people have their biases, and there's nothing wrong with that but at least they're open about it.

The multiple jabs you've made towards this thread (and not even jabs about the console, but the thread and the people itself) in the PS4 discussion thread certainly doesn't help your cause. That or you just don't realize what you're doing or how your posts come off.

I don't claim to be neutral, and I'm absolutely a "Sony guy" to the extent that I've owned all of their consoles at some point. I've also owned both a 360 (can provide Amazon receipt) and an OG Xbox, though they are both gone now. I'm only a fanboy for Nintendo, and like Microsoft, they've kind of lost their way lately, so I empathize with the frustration.

I'm also a "Sony guy" who has been extremely disappointed in the PS3 hardware (but not the software), so I started this out as neutral as anybody could be in terms of "I'm going to pick one of these two boxes, and with no BC, I don't really care which one."

From there, the X1 had the most...umm..."interesting" console launch of my lifetime, so I enjoy the discussion about this interesting launch. Anything I have posted has been an honest question or a fact to the best of my knowledge. A troll, by definition, is looking for your anger or approval, and I don't really care about either, but I do try to be friendly, and I acknowledge that my humor doesn't always come off as intended. :)
