It's weird to have both consoles launching at the same time this time around.

The PS4 (Standard) is currently #3 in Videogames on Amazon.com, The Xbox One (Standard) is #53.

Maybe. PS3 & Wii launched around the same time, as well as Gamecube & Xbox.

But there were huge differentiators between them. That isn't the case with the Xbox One and the PS4, they are, hardware wise, virtually identical with only controller design, price and Kinect separating them.

The Wii was ridiculously underpowered but had Wii Sports. The Gamecube had more in common with the Dreamcast than the Xbox, though all were all destroyed by the PS2.

I want them to launch on the exact same DAY this time, so I can go to Best Buy at midnight and watch the West Side Story style confrontations.

For a warm-up, visit IGN on almost any article mentioning Xbox One or PS4.

It's just getting ridiculous. These are gaming consoles, and we're acting like they're running for President or something.

Make no mistake, the next presidential election will be centered around which candidates align with specific consoles. Americans need to know!

Racist.

That's how I got mine. Gamestop bundle with every launch title. Arrived at my doorstep on launch day.

We? No, the kids on IGN? Absolutely.

Console Wars are Console Wars, and 13 year olds are still 13.

I remember it being much worse around here for GCN/PS2/Xbox than PS3/360. There were quite a few trolls that no longer post here(or were banned).

Yeah that's the good part about being on a forum on a site named for a mostly irrelevant format.

Of course it is a spin, any company that wants to stay in business needs to present themselves in the best light possible.

They are the ones who should be putting a spin on things, not the users.

Same here. I just checked my Amazon bundle from Nov 05. $999.95 :jawdrop: I do remember returning most of those games around Christmas time as "gifts," so that did help recoup some of that cost.

Also, water is wet. All companies do this. Corporate press releases about sales figures always contain a layer of bullshit.

Not when it's unnecessary.

When MS was on top of the world month after month with the 360 or Nintendo with the Wii, there was no spin. There was no need for it. They both just boasted about their sales(or at least just let the numbers do the talking). Sony on the other hand was the king of spin every month.

There's only spin when they're covering something up or trying to divert people's attention elsewhere. Notice they didn't say pre-orders were going swimmingly, just that they're doing better than the 360 (at a time when pre-ordering wasn't the norm).

Dude, come on. When sales are great, they say sales are great. When they're not, they spin it. It's Business 101. It's not new, and certainly not exclusive to tech companies. When investors are involved, of course it's necessary.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??

Every console they can manufacture between now and launch will be sold before it arrives at retail.

The spin would be entirely unneccesary if they weren't otherwise in all out damage control mode.

The Day One edition was in stock a lot longer than the launch edition of the PS4. Amazon doesn't list items you can no longer purchase in the best seller list. Since the standard version of the PS4 was available longer than the standard Xbox One, that's why it's currently higher. That's not me trying to spin anything, that's just the way the list works.

Come on. Which is it? Do they ALWAYS contain a layer of bullshit or do they only spin it when necessary? Pick one and roll with it. :)

Even when sales are great, there's bullshit in a press release.
