re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Back to non ranting news ;) I don't think I saw this posted yet. Pretty cool Kinect features for Killer Instinct with tournament facial recognition and automatic button config switching based on who is holding the controllers.

Not quite sure what those pics were for...all the morons in the comments complaining about a cool extra feature that they don't have to use? Yeah, sounds about right.

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
It's a feature I'll never use (I don't change my control schemes, save for inverted on FPS) but it is a nice implementation.

It's for if you have others over fighting with you and they all have different button configs, not so much for you yourself changing buttons. But yeah, I don't think I would personally use it either since nobody is ever over at my house ;)

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
I'm still taking all this Kinect stuff with a grain of salt. Remember the original one, where you were supposed to hold things up to the camera and they'd go into the world? Yeah, that didn't happen.
It'd be great if these things actually do work as promised. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Yeah, I remember that "Milo" demo where the girl was sitting right next to the TV having a conversation with the on-screen character. Pretty much nothing they showed in that demo made it to the final product. In real life, "Milo" would be telling her to "Please stand back. Please stand back. Please stand back."

re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
How is the poor implementation of a feature a result of the install base?
|
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
It's a result of developers (at best) half-heartedly implementing Kinect features since a large portion of their consumer base doesn't even own the technology. That's why MS is making it mandatory for the new console.
Note that I didn't say it was a smart move. ;) |

Please show us on the doll where Microsoft touched you. the story is the same every time, one of us posts a news story from a credible source that doesn't necessarily cast a positive light on the Xbox One, and a select few individuals rapidly arrive to excuse MS of any responsibility in the matter. It's always someone else's fault. It's cause the fighting fans are shitty. It's cause gamers are entitled. It's cause we just don't understand the family plan. |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
On the other hand, any time someone posts a news story from a credible source that doesn't necessarily cast a negative light on the Xbox One, a select few individuals rapidly arrive to put some sort of negative spin on it, claim that Sony is doing it better, or just throw in what amounts to "LOL MICROSOFT!" As a result, the genuinely valid negative stuff gets lost in the shuffle.
For fuck's sake, I don't want to defend MS after all the crap they tried to pull, but it has gotten ridiculous in here. |

Definitely a cool way to utilize Kinect, but wouldn't saving your controls to your gamertag accomplish the same thing sans camera? I mean Wii Sports/Resort remembers you are left handed when you pick your Mii doesn't it? Similar concept.
Not something I'd ever user either, but neat concept.

So any 'bias' I may exhibit is solely born out of my frustration with MS's decision making in the last 6 months; and not some entrenched hatred of the company as a whole |

Every criticism I can recall has been factual, and I've not seen anybody crap on positive news (?) in the way you described. |

Granted, he makes the mistake of doing the same thing back to Music, but I find it amusing that you posted a link that shows the opposite of what I think you intended. :) |

Sounds kind of similar, but the camera can do config swapping on the fly based on who is holding the controller. If you have a button configuration, then hand me the controller mid-match, it will change to my button config immediately. No pausing and logging in/out. They also mention setting up tournament brackets and stuff via facial recognition, which could be cool for fighting game people, but again, not so much for me.
Now what would be cool is if Kinect (here we go ) stores your info on MS's side so you can go anywhere on any system and it would recognize you and log you in without having to log in with your gamertag. Even in a retail setting. Say you're checking out a kiosk and it sees you and logs you in and allows you to queue up special demos or content from there to your home console. Again, I wouldn't have much use for said feature, and it would open a can of worms in regards to security(logging you out) but it would be kinda neat. And here we are again coming up with the ideas for MS instead of them offering up practical uses for this thing. :) |
re: Xbox One: We said WHAT at E3??
Also, I've yet to see any mention of improvements in regards to Kinect picking up and tracking small children. That's always annoyed my two little ones. Have they mentioned anything in that regard?
