I really wanted to know exactly how all that was going to work. To me, it was the most forward-thinking thing they had going.

Other than that, everything else doesn't change how I feel. I'm still getting the XO first, but now I'm actually a little less excited. Maybe that'll change after Build.

That'll still happen. They'll sell it as "Games will look and run better when connected."

It will happen naturally if they do it right.

I actually like the way Sony is giving discounts and offering free games as a "service" via PSN+, but they continue to make it all optional.

I still like to buy stuff on disk because I perceive residual value, but if you give me the right financial incentive to go digital (see Steam), I'm in.

I'm impressed. I was OK with switching, already pre-ordered the 4, but now it's a really tough call...
Still $100 more, which is not nothing, and I still don't care about the multi-tasking junk, just want a good gaming system, so not sure at this point. At least they responded to the consumer in a positive way.

I can see them slowly introducing the game sharing and licensing aspects at a later time, once a base is built up.

Consumer option = Win. Forced usually = Loss

Oh of course I knew that - it was just a big talking point out of E3. Developers talked about it on the Giant Bomb podcasts too.

Yes and no.

The games will probably now state they are required to go online to do such processing (i.e. Titanfall). If not, you might just get a lesser experience. Look at Battlefield 3. If you wanted to have the best graphical presentation, you had to install nearly 3GB of information to your 360.

Ugh, both good news and terrible news at the same time. People will finally (probably not be we can hope) shut up about all this crap is a huge plus. No more family sharing and no focus on cheaper digital games and actually ushering gamers into the next generation blows. No more cloud computing possibilities in single player, no more loading multiple games onto the HDD and switching without swapping discs. Now we are stuck just how we currently are because some people demand to be offline and buy physical media. Why not just a simple disc check if your 24hr connection is not available MS???? Keep the sharing as it was!

Oh well, can still abuse Gamestop with buying used and returning so that's good ;)

Last week at E3, the excitement, creativity and future of our industry was on display for a global audience.

For us, the future comes in the form of Xbox One, a system designed to be the best place to play games this year and for many years to come. As is our heritage with Xbox, we designed a system that could take full advantage of advances in technology in order to deliver a breakthrough in game play and entertainment. We imagined a new set of benefits such as easier roaming, family sharing, and new ways to try and buy games. We believe in the benefits of a connected, digital future.

Since unveiling our plans for Xbox One, my team and I have heard directly from many of you, read your comments and listened to your feedback. I would like to take the opportunity today to thank you for your assistance in helping us to reshape the future of Xbox One.

You told us how much you loved the flexibility you have today with games delivered on disc. The ability to lend, share, and resell these games at your discretion is of incredible importance to you. Also important to you is the freedom to play offline, for any length of time, anywhere in the world.

So, today I am announcing the following changes to Xbox One and how you can play, share, lend, and resell your games exactly as you do today on Xbox 360. Here is what that means:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console -- there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

The preorders must have been really low for them to do a complete turn around and admit they fucked up. I'm still in shock given their arrogant comments to the media in recent days.

The majority of the arrogant comments came from Don Mattrick, and he's the one whose name is on the new policy. I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns immediately after the launch.

Too little, too late. They've lost me. I was looking at my 360 games and realized that I don't own any xbox exclusives. I originally went with 360 for the backwards compatibility and would have probably went with xbox again.

Sony got it right with their announcement and still have the cheaper console and no forced camera.

Now how long before they blink again and drop the price to match Sony.

If you are on the fence it might be a good time to wait and see if a lack of preorders can force them to drop the price also.

Blame the military for that. ;)

I think developers will still utilize cloud computing. Respawn's Titanfall and Ubisoft's The Crew and The Division require an always-on connection, regardless of the machine. It's up to the developers to take advantage of it. On the X1, Microsoft is allowing developers to use their Live servers rather maintaining their own which Respawn confirmed in an interview. That's a reason why Insomniac is developing for the X1.

First off, while I love my Mac, unless something's radically changed recently neither Linux or Mac will work as an option for a gamer replacement.

Second, the fast turnaround on this makes me wonder, again, if the Sony thing wasn't a last minute change on their end to not go the DRM route and show up Microsoft. Adding to the conspiracy theory in my head is the late start for their big reveal at E3. Which goes to show you, if you want to release a big console on the same day as your rival, let them go first.

Yeah, that's true, but those are all online online games I believe. I was hoping to see some stuff implemented into single player games in the future. I guess they could still do it with an option to play while connected enhancing the experience or something.
