Or if the other stores continue taking pre-orders then we can assume something like a "Cold War" between Gamstop and MS.

So far I haven't seen or found much on the manufacturing of either the PS4 or Xbox One....where, how many plants involved, how many per day estimated or even if they're in actual production.

Somebody else posted it but there is a rumor of a silicon wafer issue with the Xbox One manufacturing. I've also heard from several places that Xbox One pre-orders are limited to 5 - 7 per store, whereas they have been cleared to take as many PS4 pre-orders as they'd like - not limited to Gamestop. Also you can still pre-order on the website.

Then again it is Sony, they think when people say Cloud computing on the Xbox One they think we're talking about a Gaikai-style service.

I overheard this today in Gamestop (dragged to the fucking mall to look at shoes and panties :grumble: ). I didn't hear the 5-7 number, but the employee did say that they weren't taking any more preorders for Xbone but that they were for PS4.

At the time I took it to mean that they had gotten overwhelmed with Xbone orders, but this makes more sense.

And yet they moved to curtail it by changing policies (only two activated systems), and developers specifically put DRM in their games (Capcom's Final Fight) to combat it. Plus you had to share an account, including payment information (which I know can be wiped out), right? That's a severe limitation to non hardcore gamers. If this works the way Microsoft implies it will, there will be a bigger impact than PSN sharing.

Again, this is anecdotal only, but I never even entertained the thought of sharing PSN accounts. But I absolutely will share Xbone games if it works as implied.

Microsoft to Pull Complete Reversal on Xbox One DRM Policies
by Patrick Klepek on June 19, 2013

Sources indicate Microsoft is going to move away much of what's caused the company so much headache.

The tug-of-war between Microsoft and Sony just got more interesting. Multiple sources inform me Microsoft will announce what amounts to a complete reversal on its DRM policies for Xbox One today.

What does this mean?

No more always online requirement
The console no longer has to check in every 24 hours
All game discs will work on Xbox One as they do on Xbox 360
Authentication is no longer necessary
An Internet connection is only required when initially setting up the console
All downloaded games will function the same when online or offline
No additional restrictions on trading games or loaning discs
Region locks have been dropped
It is unclear what caused this huge change in policy right after E3, a week where Microsoft executives spent days explaining, justifying, and talking about its policies to the press. I suspect Microsoft’s official announcement will say something to the effect of “we've been closely listening to consumer feedback.”

Based on what I’m being told, that’s definitely true.

I've reached out to Microsoft for comment.

Wow, this is a bombshell if it is true. Looks like Microsoft is going to scrap the whole DRM thing.

Disregard, someone already posted this as I was submitting it.

If true, I give them credit for not being too prideful to back down and rethink. You know the Sony of last gen would have never done that.

Sorry but MS doesn't just snap their fingers and all is forgiven.

You might be in the minority on that. If this comes true, we'll see how people react.

Yeah I was only speaking for myself but I don't like their shady intentions regardless of if they're backing down now. To me they've shown their true colors.

Though neither console is seeming all that enticing, I may be canceling my preorders and sitting the sidelines for a year just to see how things play out.

Still has forced Kinect, which has bugged me more than the DRM.

Plus the reports of engineering issues is concerning.

I bet they timed it this way because they knew that Sony was going to brick a bunch of PS3s last night! ZOMG!

Pre-ordered a Day One console from Amazon in case this pans out. I can always cancel if needed.

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

Honestly the Sony charging for PS+ underhandedly (basically sneaking it in while announcing we wouldn't have restristed used games and $400) kind of pisses me off now.

Sony thought MS was gonna dig themselves such a grave that they could get away with now charging online in the face of the overwhelming negativity towards MS. Now MS reverses their policies and the negatives of the PS4 become more apparent.

I really don't like either console at this point. And MS really pisses me off as they're the ones always trailblazing the new methods of charging consumers in every way they can conceive of. Sony follows suit when they see the opportunity to.

This is all assuming the rumors are true ;)

So far, Giantbomb is the only site reporting this, right? Any other sites with their own sources?

It sounds like some manufactured "too good to be true" stuff that was thrown out there, just so MS would have to shoot it down and keep pissing people off.

Sure it is. If this is true, then MS is doing the right thing and listening to their customers. What can we bitch about now? $100?

RichC2 06-19-13 03:16 PM

Re: Xbox One: This Thread Requires An Always On Internet Connection

That's the way you do that stuff though, if you have something negative to announce you announce it with the positive. You don't try to sell the negative as a positive. So I don't fault Sony at all.

With Microsoft, I get this will ease up on the complaining but it doesn't resolve my issues with the console.

Don Mattrick walks over the Xbox One console, removes piece of electrical tape from the name, revealing the Xbox One Eighty.

No, it isn't. Not for me at least. MS showed they were willing to play ball with whatever the developers wanted at the cost of the consumer. If not for Sony's intervention they would've never felt the need to back down from their draconian policies. If Sony were to ever lose out in the console race, MS would find themselves with the overwhelming market share and probably feel liberated to institute whatever policy they want, cause causal consumers will still want their COD fix.

I'm not supporting that asshat company.
