This Week At Bungie - 03/17/2016

This week at Bungie we set a date.

Destiny Update 2.2.0 will deploy on April 12th, 2016.

From here onward, we’ll refer to it as the “April Update.” As promised, it will have something for every type of Guardian. Here are some of the highlights to look forward to:

New and Updated Gear
New Quest featuring the Blighted Chalice Strike
Increased Max Light and Rewards
Sandbox and Crucible Updates

Yay! News!

We finally gots new info. And there's a Taken shader! Also, if you look at that image of that shader, the characters are wearing the Prison Of Elders armor. I'm pretty sure that means we're getting a Taken POE variant with the update.

If a POE update is all they are dropping that's just sad.

Well, Bungie came through with some info this week, so "Xur" does not make an appearance this week in the Xur Report. Instead, you get my excitement as I run through the Tower and tell everyone that new stuff is coming. Well, you get me talking to the Speaker and Xur. The rest ended up on the cutting room floor as the video would have pushed 30 minutes if I had kept everything.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, we do text.

Xur is located in North Tower, at the end of the walkway past the speaker.



For the Titan, it's An Insurmountable Skullfort. Yes, same as last week.

For the Hunter, it's Radiant Dance Machines. Still don't do anything when you dance.

For the Warlock, it's the Obsidian Mind. Nova Bomb kills regens Nova Bomb. Neato.

No engram this week because...

The weapon this week is the Zhalo Supercell. Lightning...in a gun!

The Legacy Engram this week is for Heavy Weapons. Got Gjallarhorn? If yes, then don't bother here.

It's possible they're skipping IB completely this time around. I figured it'd be next week before they announced the date of the update. They've skipped it in the past when updates were close.

Well, many of the Y2 exotics are obtained through quests and missions, so Xur can't sell them. Then there's The PS Exclusive Jade Rabbit, which is also off the board for him.

So here's the weapons he can't sell: Jade Rabbit, Ace Of Spades, Fabian Strategy, Tlaloc, No Time To Explain, Sleeper Simulant, Raze Lighter, Blot Caster, Dark Drinker, The Chaperone, The First Curse, Boolean Gemini, Touch Of Malice, Black Spindle

Y1 Weapons he hasn't sold the Y2 version of yet: No Land Beyond, Red Death, Bad Juju, Plan C, Super Good Advice, The Last Word

The Supercell and Hereafter are the only 2 brand new Y2 weapons that Xur can sell, and yes, he has offered them both.

And once again, Bungie really knows how to pull the rug out from under everyone. They finally give us some concrete info, and then they go and do this:

So basically, it sounds like we're getting a new POE and not much else.

Well that blows. I was really hoping for an updated VOG. Of course if PoE drops year 2 etheric that will bring my Fatebringer up to year 2 levels, I can deal.

OK, so here we go with the preview of the April update.

Variks will be the point man (or creature, yessssssss) for the new content. He will have the questline.

Winter's Run (Archon Priest) has been Takenified and added to high end playlists. It will have strike specific rewards. Archon Priest himself gets taken.

New mission on the Dreadnaught "Pretender To The Throne"

Level 41 Prison Of Elders (260 Light, WTF?). This has matchmaking.

Variks now has bounties for POE.

POE now has Challenge mode. Looks similar to Trials.

Seems like they are removing the Shaders and ships from Variks, so if you want them, grab them before April 12th.

Petra has a new quest for Playstation only, with a PS only reward.

Malok confirmed as the new boss of the Strike.

New Light max level is 335.

NO TREASURE KEYS NEEDED for new POE.

Challenge Mode for POE is Level 42 (320 Light). No matchmaking (duh)

New reward for POE is called Sterling Treasure (to be covered next week).

Challenge Mode of POE now has a scoring system, and you need to get points to complete the scorecard (high score of 30000, cumulative score of 90000). These are team scores. The scorecards expire weekly. You get a weapon for the high score, and armor for the cumulative. They drop at up to 335.

Unlike the HOW preview, they aren't going to have DeeJ sucking it up in the POE this time. However, Cozmo, who I played with once, is.


You DON'T go to the treasure room in the 320 version. It's only for scoring. You get points for each kill, and whatever the specific modifier is for the week (precision kills are shown here). Points can be taken away by Variks, based on time. Points also come from creating Orbs.

Looks like every round in Challenge Mode has a boss, and have special moves/techniques (fire breath, detainment bubbles, teleport/dropping bombs). On the 320 version, the enemies will be the same weekly, with the idea being you're trying to hit the high score.

New POE has checkpoints? I think that's what they said.

Enemies now drop engrams in POE, and kills count toward bounties. Not sure if any of this applies to the old POE (probably not)

If you wipe in Challenge mode, your score resets to what it was before that round.

The weapon received here looks like a new Queen based weapon (Her Fury, a sniper) It has new perks. Again, will be discussed next week.

So basically, it's a new mission, a new strike, an updated old strike, and updated POE. My expectations were low, and I'm still pretty disappointed here.

BTW, they kept mentioning 16 weeks being tied into this new POE stuff. They basically believe it's supposed to cover us for 4 months? They are seriously out of touch. And that only gets us to early August.

King's Fall Normal drops increased to light level 320. King's Fall Hard drops increased to light level 330. Court of Oryx Artifact Drops increased to light level 335.

It looks pretty good to me. I quite like the look of the new POE Challenge mode. I guess that it could get repetitive, but if it allows me to get to 335, it won't be too bad. Considering I am not paying anything extra for any of this, I can't complain too much.

They don't have to give us anything for free so this is pretty nice

DeeJ is such a poor spokesperson for these reveals/events

I'm really curious now to see how many more paid expansions they have before Destiny 2 comes out next fall.

Probably just the one coming this fall.

Disappointed there isn't a PS Exclusive chest piece or boots. Would have been nice to have a complete set of exclusives.

Glad to see it's back to Control. But overall, the rewards aren't all that appealing this time around.

don't mind as vault space can't allow for complete sets of everything anymore .... maybe if you have 6 characters over 2 accounts
would have been nice though to see and choose which was the nicer piece

OK folks, the Xur Report is a little late today I know, but that's because I actually had to play the game to get some of the stuff I needed for the video report. Unfortunately, times have been a little tough for me, and I had to put ads into the Xur Report. Rest assured, the ads are completely unbiased, and do not by any means force me to compromise the hard hitting news and views that you have come to expect from my weekly report.

But, these ads will hopefully keep the lights on around here. For now, here's the text version.



Xur is located in the Tower Hangar, just right of the stairs.

For the Titan, it's the Empyrean Bellicose Helmet. Like the floatiness of Warlocks? Like how they can stay in the air so everybody can shoot them easier? Try this for Titans!

For the Hunter, it's the Crest Of Alpha Lupi Chest. Is that a wolf between your breasts?

For the Warlock, it's the Alchemist Raiments chest. Want some extra glimmer (like 3-5 glimmer)? Try this!

No engram this week because...

The Weapon this week is Invective. Full auto, self generating ammo shotgun. What else could you want?

The legacy engram is for Primary Weapons. Want a Thorn? Now's your chance. Otherwise, don't bother.

And with the April Update coming, keep in mind that we'll likely see a boost to the base light level you can buy items at. That should mean Xur will have items over 280 starting the 15th. More on that next week. But keep that in mind when not spending your coins.
