Yes, it was confirmed. I don't know if they mentioned Move controllers but my guess would be that they don't work either. The motion sensing looks to be the same but if buttons on a DS3 don't work, I can't imagine buttons on the Move controller working either. My guess would be that the PS4 controller uses a different means of communication with the system.

My kids listen to music from either their iPod our iPad, or our phones. Nary a CD to be played directly. I still rip CDs and add them to my iTunes library, but they don't have to deal with the process.

Hell, so far the only thing it does play are PS4 games.
You can bank on it playing Blu-Rays and streaming Netflix/Amazon/Hulu/etc. It will also have USB ports and will likely support digital music and video formats.

It would be nice if it also upscaled DVDs like the PS3 does, but that remains to be seen. If it does play DVDs, it will require another laser, and if leaving that laser off makes the console $20-50 cheaper, I'd support that.

yes. that's exactly what i do.

my point being there are still people out there who use cds (parents who move music from place to place for little kids, for instance). i could go into the numerous reasons why this makes more sense, but i'm sure it'll fall on deaf ears.

i use my ps3 as a blu-ray player and *gasp* a cd player. hard to imagine, i know, but there are people out there like me.

Move controllers absolutely work. This is confirmed.

There's nothing else in your setup that plays CDs?

yeah, an xbox360.

given the choice, it's easy to pick the ps3 since it's set up with my universal remote to control it.

That's good to hear, since I still have two of them. That also makes it more curious as to why a DS3 wouldn't work. How are the d-pad and buttons on a Move controller any different than those on a DS3?

Of course we can bank on it doing more. They already said it does 4k for things that aren't PS4 games. Sometimes I feel like 60% of a thread is just treading old ground because people can't be bothered to keep up.

I'd imagine that all games are programmed with the new controller in mind, which as they said in the press conference has different rumble features and improved latency. Anyone using a PS3 controller would be at a slight disadvantage, not to mention the PS3 controller has buttons that the PS4 controller doesn't and vice versa.

I do it all the time. The PS3 plays SACDs which I have a decent collection of. PS3 is way more than a game console. In fact I use it more overall for audio and video than I do as a gaming system.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?

I bought a spare launch PS3 for two reasons: BC and SACDs. I have problems.

Same here. I use mine daily for DVD, Blu-Ray and streaming. I only game with it 1-2 times a week.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?

Isn't that Sony's big selling point? That the PS3/4 were supposed to be more than just a gaming machine, they were supposed to be the center of your home entertainment experience? Would be pretty hypocritical for them to remove CD playback functionality.

Re: PS4 to be announced February 20th?

If it has Pandora/Slacker/Spotify...etc, it meets the music needs of most people. Combine that with Netflix/Hulu and you have a full entertainment product. I don't think I've ever played a music CD through a game system. If taking out CD playback makes the system even $10 cheaper, I'm all for it.
